I love those black sunflowers.

Here's the lights on the pool deck of a couple that lease ground from Mom at the river. They have a windmill too. LOL, but I was just trying for the lights.

Funny you should post your black sunflowers today. I just went out and took a couple pictures of ours. Lauren picked out the seed and only two lived to bloom. Ours are sad little things. One was reddish and the other black, only the black one was in focus:

Kath, mine are pretty small, but only because a deer lopped off the top half a month or so ago. They're either Velvet Queen or Chianti, but they look darker than either have looked in the past.

Alisande, I can't remember the name of ours. Can't even remember what size they were supposed to be. The two that lived are only about a foot tall.

Indianakat, your pic is of an American Painted Lady. Thanks for posting it. It confirms to me that what I am seeing here on my Butterfly bush are just Painted Ladies. Much more pink on yours than mine.

Remember my pic of a couple weeks ago of the Chrysalis hanging on the underside of a leaf? Well, something ate it's leaf leaving only the mid vein where the chrysalis is attached. It was probably the guy in the upper right.

I just bought the camera I wanted. A Canon G9. The battery is charging as I type. Finally I will be able to add to this post and hopefully get better at photographing.

I've never seen black sunflowers before. Interesting.
