I have two - one makes heart shaped waffles - it's Sweet Hearts by Black and Decker.

The other one is VillaWare Uno Classic Round Waffler. This one makes Belgium waffles. Alton Brown recommended it.

Many reviewers said they like Belgium waffles better since the wells are deeper the crust is a little crustier yet the inside stays soft and moist. They thought the regular size waffle was slightly harder - more like a frozen waffle.

I've been looking for one for ages. All I can find is the non-stick ones. I've had a couple of them and have issues--first, I won't use anything teflon-coated to feed my family these days (it's a very dangerous carcinogen that should NEVER be used for food--finally the gov't is banning it's use in food utensils). Secondly, the waffles from non-stick griddles just don't get crisp like they do in bare metal.

I've come to the conclusion, I'm going to have to break down and spend several hundred $$$ to buy a professional waffle iron.

Has anyone else ever tried a cast iron waffle maker? We bought an antique one to use at our camp, but they still make them today. They have a base that will fit over your burner, and then a waffle iron part that you can flip (kind of like the ones in hotel breakfast rooms but no timer). Since they are manual, they take a bit of getting used to, but ours makes great waffles.

That said, I'd love a good belgium waffle maker but they are soooo expensive!

I had a Belgian waffle maker. But it was a beotch to clean. I ended up throwing it away the last time I used it. Easier to go to International House of Pancakes when the mood strikes! And they do the clean-up!

I have a very old waffle iron - think braided cloth cord!

Those old ones work SO much better than the new ones. They get really hot so the waffle is nice and crisp.

The first one I had finally shot craps - so I bough a "new" one off eBay - it makes two at a time and looks totally awesome! The don't make things that look that cool anymore.

Waffles never stick - I give the iron a spray of Pam at the beginning and that does the trick. I wipe the whole thing down really well while it is still semi-hot, before I put it away. I don't use soap on it though.

I have a now quite old standard waffle maker and it's non-stick. I'm not paranoid about it. Don't think it's Teflon anyway. I had an old one that was OK but impossible to clean and then I made the mistake of using Pam on it and that puts that disgusting coating on there that's impossible to remove. I hated to throw it out but no sense keeping a worthless appliance.

I'm not big on waffles, but I prefer regular ones to Belgian. Guess I'd rather have some good French Toast than a Belgian waffle.

My DH went thru a phase. We had an old waffle iron, everything stuck to it. Took it out in the garage & cleaned it with a wire brush, then seasoned it...still had problems. So we purchased a non-stick Belgian one, cheap, like $20....and it's fine. I used it....oh...about 5 years ago! :0)

I just got an entire set of Wedgwood stainless cookware, the skillets are teflon coated. I looked it up....says unless you over heat it there is no danger of toxicity.

Used mine once or twice and wasn't impressed. I was just thinking about it the other day. I'm going to give it another shot this winter and try batter recipes from the internet instead of the pamplet.

I read many reviews several years ago when I was looking for one. I ended up with a Villa Ware and it has consistently turned out perfect waffles.
(Beware of the "waffle tone" however. It is more like a "waffle shriek")

I like regular waffles - not belgium waffles - the only one we found was teflon coated and I love it! I make them at least twice a month and make extras to freeze for breakfast for the grands... I have even done home made french toast in the waffle iron.

My sister gave me one for my anniversary about 44 years ago. It is teflon,, Toastmaster (?), coated and makes regular waffles. It came with a good recipe too. The waffle plateds come out for washing. I season it well for each batch I make and they come out well. I do not like frozen waffles, but these are yummy.

I make them every now and then. I like the regular ones, not the Belgian ones. Mine is teflon coated, but I don't worry about it.

That waffle maker looks nice, can't go wrong with cuisinart at that price.
I have a white-westinghouse I bought several years ago its fine for every now & then.

If I had a waffle maker in the house I would be eating waffles once a day same with chocolate can't have it in the house

I like traditional waffles. Belgian waffles are like donuts. OK for a dessert waffle but for breakfast I want the real deal and that's a thin and crisp traditional waffle. Sometimes with bacon strips cooked right in.

we love reular waffles and fo not like belgium waffles. I feel the same way wildchild does about them. I do not like fruit and whip cream on them either. We like over easy eggs on top with syrup. I have a 35 year old green square one that has removeable plates that are reversible to use as a grill on the other side. It has been a while since I made them but thought about makeing them for supper tonight.

I think I'd like the round thicker waffles. Not to make Belgian waffles, just to eat with REAL maple syrup (Cynic), and bacon or sausage.
Nice and crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

I have the Flip Side Waffle maker and LOVE it! I got it on Black Friday 2 years ago and have bought 3 other for gifts.

We got one for a wedding present many years ago. We used it frequently for a couple of years. I can't remember the last time I used it but I know what cupboard it is in.

Regular waffles here! DH likes to make them and cooks up the extra batter and freezes the waffles. He makes ice cream sandwiches later!

Lindsey, that looks great! I didn't realize anyone actually made a waffle maker that did multiple waffles at one time! Perfect for a family, or someone like me who likes to have all the kids and grandkids over for breakfast fairly regularly!

I guess I haven't been around enough because I've never seen a Belgian waffle where the, shall we call it the "bread" part of it is any thicker than a standard waffle. The holes go deeper yes, but the "walls" are no thicker than a standard waffle so how do they become any more "fluffy" inside than a standard "American" waffle? I've never seen it.

Jasdip, does your maple syrup come in a bag too???

I too have a Toastmaster that was given to me last year, it is the older one that the plates come out and are reversable and can be washed in the dishwasher. I also have the heart shaped one made by Black and Decker. The third one I have is similar to the Black and Decker one, but not heart shaped. I only make waffles once in awhile. I would use all three if I were making say a breakfast for all the kids at Christmas or sometime. I like french toast the best!

Yeah, I can't say enough wonderful things about our KitchenAid waffle maker! I don't think you can get it any more in the "Nickel Pearl" color like we have (shown above), but you should be able to find it in the "Black Onyx" color:

The waffles that it makes are 7.5" in diameter, and 1.25" thick. The thing heats up quickly (there's a temperature gauge on the top that shows the progress), and it takes 3.5 minutes to cook a waffle. When we make them, once the "top" is filled, I press the start button and then flip the thing over. Hubs fills the second side and I watch to see how many seconds it takes before the lid comes down. Once the 3.5 minutes are done (you see the timer count it down), we take the first waffle out, and the timer automatically starts counting UP (how long past the "done" time), and when the correct number of seconds has passed we open the second "chamber" to take out the second waffle. If you want to continue making waffles, just press the Reset button and the timer will go back to 3.5 minutes. When you've got the batter in, press the Start button, etc., etc.

And, another key to making great waffles is the mix you use. We always use this:

You can find it more easily than you'd think and you can also order it from places like ChefsCatalog.com. It's also sold under the Stonewall brand. You have to add a bit of melted butter, an egg or two, and some milk, but man-oh-man the waffles are good! Hubs likes blueberry waffles, so we just mix in some fresh (sometimes frozen/thawed) blueberries. Yum!
