That's a great price. We bought one some time ago to have on hand in tornado season. Last year, without electricity for a week, we operated the TV (with the cable antenna) a couple of hours in the morning and again in the evening. It was an enormous source of local information when needed the most.

Of course, we have a generator! We mostly ran that for the freezer. Every night, we plugged in one lamp and the TV. We attracted our neighbors like moths to a candle. What fun we all had.

Anyway....this little appliance can be a very good investment for lots of reasons.

IF you live close enough to the TV stations. That clever device would not pick up anything where I live. One of the downsides to country living, I guess!~ LOL!

I have my outdoor antenna mounted on a 30 foot tower and can receive all the major stations and sub channels.

If the weather is poor, or nice, I loose signal. A couple channels are stronger than the others. Yesterday was a beautiful day. I could not watch ABC channels. They would stop and digitize. The others would drop the audio quite a bit. It gets better in the evening.

Forget it if the weather is stormy and you REALLY need to see the weather.

Digital TV is not a great thing for everyone, unfortunately. It's great for urban areas - but not rural.

I too agree with you Iowa Girl. Doesn't do much for us out in the country being so far from the transmitters. I have pretty much the same problem you do. So few channels to start with and then lose them with a tiny bit of cloud in the way! Our outside antenna is on a big tripod on top of our house.

I got a very similar one for my DD from somewhere else for $10 earlier this year. It does work excellent for her, but like others have said.. location matters. She lives in a large city, it would never work where I live.

Yes, being 30+ miles from most of the tv stations, I bought a good, very expensive indoor antenna and it pulled in only 3 stations for me--one that's a foreign-language station about 4 miles from our house (the ONLY station in the area), one very low-end PBS station, and one UHF station that doesn't even have a news dept.

Was hoping to get away without cable once we moved, but within a couple of weeks, I had to break down and get cable.

That's a great idea and great price if you're actually in the broadcast area, but it's not going to perform miracles.

Try being over 100 miles from the broadcast signal - :)

When this was all changing over, they had some engineers at the State Fair to answer questions. I asked one; what about those of use who live very far away from the broadcast center, and rely on satellite TV, when the weather is bad and we cannot get any signal - dish or antenna. His suggestion.... listen to the radio.

I lose my internet also when the weather gets bad. (And satellite internet nixes any chance of streaming video like Net Flix ... boo!)

When you say it gets plenty of channels, what type of channels (and programs) do you mean?

Carla, I get 4 (NBC) and 4.2, 5 (ABC) and 5.2, 9 (CBS) and 9.2 which is 9 showing the news over and over
13, (PBS) and 13.2, also PBS, but a different program!

25 (fox), 34, 43, 52, 62 and most of these also as a .2, but those are not good watching channels, unless you like country western music.

All in all, plenty for me to watch.

I was very tempted to pull the trigger on this last night when it came on, to carry in the rv. But my husband wasn't as excited about it so I didn't.
The reviews on it are very good and the price is very reduced.

I didn't see it before it changed. Don't really need another antenna though. Have several, including amplified but the ironic thing is the one that seems to work the best here is probably 40-50 years old. Plain old rabbit ears.

One thing about antennas with digital though. Most people assume it's like the old analog days where you pull it out to maximum extension. Not true with digital. Mine works about best extended 1/2 to 2/3 the way. The stations suggested something like 18" (or something like that) as the optimal extension for antennas for best reception. You need to play around with it a little. And of course adjust for different conditions.
