High School Reunion

Would you believe it. In Mid-September, I am going to attend my 60th high school reunion. It is remarkable since it was a small class (about 50) and half of us have passed away.

I was rummaging through a box of old stuff and ran across my high school letter for being in the band. Now, I need to find a blue sweater or jacket to put it on. The type of sweater I am looking for has gone out of style many years ago and I am not having any luck.

I went to my 55th two years ago, and sorry I went.

For one thing, everyone was leaving by 8. Supposed to be a great evening event. NOT!.

Classmate and I went back to the poolside at motel, and finished the evening with wine we took'

Sad to say, I won't go to the next one, if I'm still here.

Jenn, I'm glad you had a good time & that your outfit was a success. LOL about that guy's comment. I remember when I was in high school & they'd announce the reunion classes at teh football game. We'd look at the 40th & 50th year reunion attendees like they were absolute geezers, & here we are at that place today, telling each other that we "haven't changed a bit."

Good timing. We just got home from Harry's 61st reunion and those 79-year olds looked pretty darned good. And had a great time! Now I'm looking forward to my 50th next year in Indiana. We always have the best time and don't care that much that the guys have no hair and we don't weigh 105 anymore. We're just glad to see one another.

I am thinking with the advent of Facebook reunions will be a thing of the past. People go just to "catch up" and with everyone posting their lives on public media--what is the motivation to schlep to a reunion?

Ah, no 'hiding' behind the internet when you meet *in person*. You can't 'photo-shop' your real self. LOL

My DH accused me of giving away his letter sweater from HS, but I was able to find a long blue cardigan and got a replacement 'letter' from his HS to sew onto the front.

(I don't believe *I* threw away the original. I think he lumped it in with his old air force reserve gear. I remember he couldn't wait to get rid of the *starched* khaki's he had worn for drill.)

Jim, have you looked for companies that supply letter sweaters to athletic departments today? Your alma mater or the HS in your present town might have a source.

My 50th is coming up next year and I am helping to organize it. I know the two classes ahead of us had a ball at their reunions, so I hope it's the same for us. We have to have a certain number show up to meet the minimum cost of the venue. I think we will be okay there.

What things did you do at your reunion that you enjoyed? Didn't enjoy -- other than looking old!

I'm fortunate that a few close friends from high school and I are having our own "reunion". I've rented a beach house and there will be six of us "girls". The ones that I can be myself around. I'm so stinkin' excited. Even Callie is coming along.

I attended my 50 year reunion in CA 4 years ago. I enjoyed visiting with everyone and I was happy that we all wore name tags. I enjoyed spending a day driving around sightseeing with a friend I had not seen for many years. Around 10 p.m. a band started playing and most of us left I always enjoy my reunions.

My 50th was last year. They hired a band that plays rock ( and plays at a well known Jersey shore restaurant in the summers.)
We had a blast, and there have been 3-4 meets this year - 2 of them at the shore.

Look at eBay. I found a class ring.... exactly like mine there recently. Didn't look at sweaters tho. What do we do with 60+ year old class rings (that haven't fit on my fingers for many years).

Hey.... maybe in 40 or so years someone will want a "l00'" year old class ring! Really Special!!!!

lol..I made the mistake of washing mine! no realizing in 1964 they used 100% wool! it would fit my youngest dgd now....
