She's so stiff acting from what I have seen, I hope with this she will learn to let her hair down and enjoy...and I agree that she needs to get him out of her life. She needs a breath of fresh air from all the people who want to put her down and trash her even on bulletin boards. I haven't seen her do or say anything that would embarrass me and she shouldn't have to take the flak for her Mother. Funny to me that SP's husband has managed to stay above all the hipocracy and the reporters and commenters seem to leave him alone but her kids, they feel comfortable trashing. Her crime obviously was supporting her Mother as a candidate, I would think that any child would ..and a huge number of girls in the US get pregnant every year without being wed and they are not trashed for the rest of their lives for it, I don't see why she should be. In our family we also have a precious Grandson that my Granddaughter had out of wedlock (as it is said in some circles) and we don't love her one bit less for it. She had him in April and graduated from college in May with honors. I say go Bristol and milk the opportunities as best you can while they are available to you.

Like I said in the other post about DWTS, I was afraid they would, again, dig down to the muck in the bottom of the barrel for some of their......up. 'talent', like they did last season. Yup! I read this morning that Kirsty Alley and David Hasselhoff may also appear. This used to be a classy show.

Here we go again.

The show is called "Dancing With the Stars." I admit I'm no expert, since I've only watched bits and pieces of it, and never a complete episode straight through. But I saw stars! Stars like actors and ice skaters. Bristol Palin is not a star, and I think it's somewhat bizarre that she was asked be on the show. Anything for ratings! It's not a bad decision for her . . . if she has a chance of doing well.

And for the record I'm a fan of the whole Obama family, and I would not be thrilled if any of them were scheduled to be on that show. Appalled is more like it.

I suppose it benefits ABC to book the most "controversial" guests that they can. It garners free publicity for the show by centering on people who are already in the headlines for other reasons.

She's an excellent choice for them. Young, attractive, and she'll bring in a wide variety of both supporters and those hoping she'll make a fool of herself and her family. It all translates to higher ratings.

I feel bad for her and I hope this is the right decision.

Bristol Palin is NOT a star. What is the title of this show?. Is there the word STAR in it? It used to be that way, but lately we have Kate Gosselin who last I looked was a nurse who popped out 8 kids as her claim to fame. The Obamas are way too classy to ever think that their daughter(s) would appear on this show. Same with Chelsea Clinton. These kids stay out of the spotlight. I could care less that she had a kid at 17 and the drop out father of her baby appears nude in Playgirl magazine and runs for Mayor of Wasilla. . It's about class and image. They are NOT stars , just gossip fodder ,and they're there to keep their"brand" going, their 15 minutes. Why doesn't she go to college?. Weren't they paid a gazillion dollars a few weeks ago to be on the cover of US to announce they were in love and getting married? Next week she was in People saying whoops, ah no, a mistake. I won't be watching though..

If she were my child, I would also be in the front row cheering. My best to her. I've seen more than one young person grow as a person and a dancer on that show.

I wish her well. She's a 19 year old girl who does have some celebrity status, so I don't think there's anything wrong with her being on the show. I don't think she should be criticized for it. I don't know the criteria for making it onto the DWTS show but I would consider Bristol a kind of celebrity.She has certainly been in the headlines a lot and Kate had her own reality show.Oh,and she is going to be "reporting" from the red carpet on one of the big awards shows.I saw the previews of that one and she is actually pretty good.Shows like DWTS are all about ratings,so figure it out.
I could care less about what Kate looked like a few years ago.What does that have to do with anything? She has made some money and had some "work" done.So what? I'd like to have some work done too but I can't afford it! LOL

There have been a lot of people on the show that haven't fit the mold of a typical 'star'. Obviously, the show goes after people that will bring up the ratings...I don't think they care what the definition of star is.

Actually my kids never have disappointed me. Sorry to disappoint YOU. I have a son and daughter with undergraduate degrees and masters degrees each with long term good positions, one in state government and one in the private sector. They never smoked, took drugs, and both are highly trained athletes. One a many times marathon runner the other a highly ranked mountain biker. One is divorced but HE didn't disappoint me, his wife who left him for her married boss did. I also have two brainac grandkids, one in at college and one 12 and the best athlete in his school. My kids both married in their 20's and each had one child. The only disappointment is granddaughter is living with her BF, BUT they are both Juniors in college and are 20 and 21 and are not so dumb they'd jeopardize their lives by having a kid now.

DWTS is just another wonderful example of the dumbing down of America.

I always thought it was called Dancing With The Stars because the celebrities were paired with dance stars not that the celebrities were necessarily stars themselves.

I read that comedienne Margaret Cho and actress Jennifer Grey are going to be in next season also.

Of course they want to cast persons who will be interesting and controversial. They also want to create hype surrounding the show. I'm going to guess that the gossip rags will suggest a budding romance with Bristol and whoever she is paired with. Isn't there always at least one 'new couple' every season that everybody speculates about in the mags. I don't think it is going to be Margaret Cho.

What on earth do those two Obama children have to do with this?? They're just little kids. And when they grow up I'm sure they will live a quiet life of dignity just like every other presidential offspring in the past has.

She's a young adult and I don't really understand why people are so angry with her. You have no clue what type of people other politician's kids are, just what they appear to be in public. They could be the worst human beings on the earth for all any of us know.

I would LOVE to see Kirstie Alley on the show. I think she is funny and with her trying to lose weight, it would be interesting watching her slim down with all of the exercise.

I read that about David Hasselhoff too. I think it would be fun to watch him as well. I also saw where he has a family reality show coming out, I think this fall.

I personally think its fun to watch people dance in general. Whether they are the Obama Children, the Palin Children or whoever else it doesn't matter either way to me.

Personally, I don't think babies or pregnancies should ever be considered a disappointment... Babies are always blessings! I would be disappointed in my children if they lived selfish or lazy lives at the expense of others. They could be the biggest triathlete rock star and could be a big disappointment or could be a trashman and I could be proud of them... Money and what you achieve (especially in the sports arena) means very little to me.. it's how you get there, what you do with it, and how you handle your human imperfections (for those that admit to having any) that counts.

I'm not saying that your family is not decent or that they have disappointed you... just saying that maybe you should use different examples to show/express that... (By the way, we all know kids hide drugs, sex and alchohol use from their parents -what they tell you may or may not be the truth).

carla..I was responding to ciele that she was sure my kids disappointed me, and I said no they never did. Except maybe in small ways like not doing chores or walking the dog when they were young. But NO they never did. They are adults now in their 40's and don't drink or smoke so there's your little theory they were really closet drug addicts and drunks that hid it from me. And their athletic achievements in HS, college and now in their adult life are surely more to be proud of than getting knocked up at 16. ..And you have a lot of nerve insinuating my son was emotionally abusive to his ex wife. How hateful. He's was a good husband and a wonderful father to his daughter and still is. And how did this turn to me? I guess these personal attacks are why people leave KT. BTW..daughter was phi betta kappa and graduated from an ivy league school magna cum laude. But I shouldn't be proud, I guess.

I don't watch the show. I do agree that Bristol is not a "star". But if I were her Mom, you can bet your bottom dollar I would be in the front row cheering. I hope she has a great time and does well! She is already creating a buzz which means people will watch. I think that is probably the point!

I'm still trying to figure out how Dotmom's comment made this political. I don't see it, Ciele.

My opinion is that Bristol is a train wreck in process; that has to do with what we read about her behavior, proclamations, actual actions, etc. It has nothing to do with politics.

And as far as DTWS, I have only watched it a handful of times and don't find it very interesting (I don't find many of the so-called reality shows very interesting - they're scripted, edited, and contests are fixed; all in the name of ratings). But I agree that, again in the name of ratings, the show will get people on there who will make people watch (for whatever reason). I suspect that a lot of people will watch Bristol, whether it be to root her on or to hope she make a fool of herself so they can talk about her.

Bristol Palin is awfully young to be criticized for having had a baby (that's what young women do) or to be written off as a "train wreck waiting to happen".

She has poise & grace & some hard-won wisdom, & I predict that she'll grow stronger & wiser & more adept at handling her celebrity.
