Would you eat a deep fried.... SCORPION?

My favorite is deep fried.... Ice Cream!!!! YummmMO!

Oh no, I wouldn't eat any type of bug deep fried.

Now, I would eat deep fried ice cream. I love that! LOL

My parents grew up with a very narrow range of foodstuffs available, particularly in winter. Mom was a good, but simple cook. We used to say, when she wanted to spice things up, she added salt and pepper. My generation is much more adventurous, as produce from around the world, plus restaurants featuring international cuisines, are now relatively cheap and local. Dad never much liked fish, but as a good Catholic, we always had it on Fridays - usually tinned salmon or frozen fish'n chips. He wouldn't eat it any other day of the week, but I'll eat it whenever.... He also never like Chinese food, although Mom did, and always deferred to him. In his final years, he was hospitalized a few times, and it wasn't unusual for Mom to phone us and say, "They're keeping Dad in for another day. Any chance we can do Chinese?" In her last months, when she lived with us, and proclaimed that all food tasted terrible, she would still sometimes ask, "Any chance of Chinese?" I remember my paternal grandmother as always making out like a Proper English Gentlewoman, and declaring her superiority compared to continental Europeans, especially the ones who consumed GARLIC!! My brother and I visited her grave a few years ago, and noticed that the ground had settled and her marker was a bit crooked. We determined that it must have been caused by her spinning around in it for the past 30 years, as most of the surrounding plots were occupied by Hungarians, Italians, and Poles!

Fried fish - finger food or fork food?

I made fish and chips on Sunday, and I used a recipe similar to Ann's, except that it has egg in it, and I dredged the fish in seasoned flour before dipping it into the batter. It probably came out too thick for Ann's taste, but Kevin and I liked it. When making the chips, I cut the potatoes into 1/2" (or slightly smaller) strips and stored them in ice water for a couple of hours. Then I deep fried them at 350 degrees for 3-4 minutes, drained them on paper towels, and left them to cool while I prepared the fish. After I was finished cooking the fish, I refried the potatoes at 375 degrees for about 7 minutes, and they came out better than any other fried potatoes I had ever made before. I had been aware of the twice cooked method for years but had never gotten around to frying any myself because I feel like I get enough fried potatoes when I go out. However, these were so much better than what I get in restaurants that I will make them again fairly soon. Also, I was suprised at how much cheaper russet potatoes were than the potatoes I usually buy. I ate the potatoes with a fork, as I did the fish, which was some kind of "rock" fish from Canada. I also made tartar sauce and a soy/mirin dipping sauce for tempura turnips that I did not get around to cooking. I plan to cook the turnips tonight and also make some crab hush puppies, which will be a new experiment for me. Lars

Do You Like Fried Potatoes and How do You Like Them

My husband makes the best french fries. He cuts the russet potatoes in rounds....doesn't peel them. Then he cuts them in sticks, so they are about the size and thickness of my little finger. He has a pot of oil, and he dumps them all in at once...which tends to cool the oil a bit, but when the oil reheats and they finish frying, it is like they have been fried twice, which is the real way to make french fries. You fry them, drain them, and then fry them again. They are lightly crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. I used to always cut my french fries length ways, but after seeing how he does it, I changed to his way. His still taste better than mine. I am another one who loves an electric skillet. I don't think I have ever fried potatoes in one, but I like frying chicken it better than I do using cast iron. And I have over 100 pieces of cast iron cookware. Or, did have. I have given a lot of it away.

Probably not.

I fixed the BEST fried okra this week. DH got some fresh young okra from a local farmer. I used Paula Deen's recipe and it was the best I've ever had. It even stayed crispy after it got cold. We had just a little left over and put it in the toaster oven for about 5 minutes and it got nice and crisp again. I'll attach the recipe. We didn't use the dip.

Never tried fried scorpion, but many years ago as a guest at a wedding, a plate of chocolates was passed around the table....and, well, being a chocoholic ~ yup I had one. Found out later that it was a chocolate covered grasshopper. Didn't matter what it was, as it was crunchy and the only taste was the chocolate!

p.s. When I heard what it was I dissected one and it really was a grasshopper!!!!

No bugs, but I have eaten deep fried twinkies and oreos. Yum
