Computer Question Windows 7

My new computer is fitted with Windows 7. I'm used to XP.

I find that as I type, the words will all of a sudden show up a line or so above, in between words. So I have to constantlyiy go up and delete/backspace the extra letters, then back down to where I'm typing.

Heck it just did it typing this!! It's extreemeely annoying (see the extra iy id n "constantly"? that's from typing "annoying".

Does anyone know why it would do this??? My other laptop didn't do this at all.

I was talking to my SIL and hers does the same thing, and she blames it on the mouse. If she uses ase itn external mouse it doesn't do it. But I said it has to be Windows 7 as our laptops are different brands.

jasdip that is very common in laptops and the reason it happens is you accidentally brush your hand on the touch pad while typing. If you look around on the top keys there is usually one that you can toggle off the touch pad, give that a try and see how that works. That would be why your SIL does not have it happen when she uses the external mouse, usually when you do that you have the touch pad disabled

I had to go into control panel and disable it. Then I had no mouse!!!! I almost crapped my pants. I clicked the upper keys and found the one that got it working again.

So I'm not sure how to "disable" it so that I can type. I don't see a sensitivity gauge for the touch-pad either, so I can set it different.

I hate that too I am so used to the type of windows explorer we have had in past versions where we can go through the tree and find what we are looking for. Windows 7 has a very abbreviated version and has libraries which I am NOT fond of. It also makes it hard for the security help forums to have people find file paths as they have in the past with xp or earlier versions. I have found the windows 7 forums and their tutorials very helpful Windows 7 Forums one of the first things I did to windows 7 was go in and change the theme to the windows classic so things look more familiar, googling make windows 7 look like xp led me to several good tips and tricks.

Agree just leave AVAST for now since you have it on and it is running well you are good there with an active Antivirus program. What I suggest people do with Avast is to set up the scanner in screen saver, go to your screen saver settings area and select Avast screensaver from the list, in Advanced you can select which screen saver to have it use while Avast scans. Save your settings then anytime your pc goes to screen saver it will start scanning, when it is interrupted it stops then starts where it left off the last time etc, works great. As Zep said AVAST is constantly scanning so you really don't have to do scans like you do with others. I would go with the windows firewall it is a decent firewall. But if you want to use zone alarm since you have it that is fine but you do have to turn off the windows one like zep gave directions for. You have the same programs I use, malwarebytes, superantispyware, spywareblaster, update weekly and do scans. That first AVAST scan does take a long time to run and yes windows 7 is a large program so you will have a lot of files to scan. You are applying a very good layered protection on your pc. Just remember to also use the secunia software inspector to keep all programs updated too.

Hi zep, I have a desktop that has Windows 7 on it, a laptop with Vista,Husband's computer is Windows Vista, Daughter has a wireless laptop with Vista and a wireless netbook with XP and they are all in the HomeGroup. So I guess I am all up to date with all of the networking in this house.

I slowed down the mouse, RC. That "seems" to help.

Sherry...go to your Control Panal, then Mouse. Double click on that and it will open a window showing your "mouse". Click on that and you should be able to adjust it from there.

Oh I found all kinds of goodies there, Country Bumpkin.
I changed the sensitivity of the pad, so fingers are crossed!

I was ready to install XP on this machine.

sorry jasdip I was gone by the time you responded but sure you can ask as many questions as you like, I may not know the answer but I can try LOL

I was hoping you would find that it was the sensitivity of the touch pad, by just turning it off was a test to check if that helped, adjusting the sensitivity does fix it for many. On some you have to just use the Fkey(mine is F7) that toggles it off and on when typing because they are just so sensitive.

It is one of the reasons I keep mine turned off on my netbook and just use a mini travel usb mouse.

Hi RC!!
I was noodling at the CompHelp yesterday and I noticed that "you all" ar not recommending SIObit's Advanced Systems Care Cleanner anymore.
Wow, I thought that was a remarkable product, and I just wanted to be sure that it absolutely is one that we should stay away from, on your recommendation.

I also downloaded SuperAntiSpyware, as I had on my previous laptop and it won't start/run on this one, and it won't uninstall, so I could re-install it. Do you know of a way to make something uninstall, that won't?

Jasdip, it's a good idea to turn off the touchpad and use a mouse for a while and make sure you don't have a bad computer. Could be a cracked board or something. Odds are low but especially on a new machine I'd make sure. It is very common. Happens to me on my Vista machine a lot.

Another thing you could do is take something like an old mousepad and put on the computer if it doesn't obstruct speakers or cause heat issues. It'd raise your palms up a touch and prevent your Neanderthal knuckles from hitting the touchpad! :)

I'm not to fond of the new version of Advanced SystemCare but I'm not giving up on it as yet. Still too functional a program to dismiss.

For SuperAntiSpyware, try installing it again. Then you should be able to uninstall it if you want, or it might work right and you might not want to uninstall it. Otherwise, there's various uninstallers out there. Revo is one, Iobit has a good one too. And there's others.

the reason for many of the security forums and teams no longer recommending anything by IObit is due to their theft of property from various well known companies including but not limited to malwarebytes.
Our thought is if they are capable of this type of obvious theft do we really want them as a security program on our pc. The fact they are based in China and not susceptible to the same laws also comes into play.
They have been put on various black lists also.

It becomes similar to do we let the wolf guard the hen house. Do you really want a company that is ok with that type of behavior/ history on your pc supposedly protecting you.

The choice of course remains with the user.
