Question about Facebook

I recently joined Facebook at the urging of my grown daughters. When I go on my homepage and look at all the comments, I see where friends and family have sent me things, like smiles, etc or invited me to 'join causes'. My problem, and my question to you all is this: every time I try to click on "accept" or 'join cause' or type a comment or something i get a message that says "You are not logged in, you must be logged in to do that". I cannot do anything, send smiles back, make comments, look at the pictures my friends post just keep getting that message. I went to the Help Center site at the bottom right on the facebook page, looked at all the reported problems and reported my problem. Nothing. What am I doing wrong? I go in and type my email and password. Which has to be right since it brings me to my home page, I just cannot do anything. HELP please. Facebook sent me an email saying that the received my report but can not take the time to research all the problems. what now? thanks everyone, I know if anyone has an answer you guys do.

I am still trying to find my way around that site also. If you are logged in and they can't help you, I would just re-register.

Are you logged in. At the top right hand of my page there is a place to log in or log out...and you must either check the box to stay logged in or log in every time you go to your page.

Sorry JoAnn, I answered blfenton's question because here on Houzz, I have clicked to follow many folks and just didn't remember if I had followed her/him. I felt a bit guilty because I could have been someone creating anxiety to blfenton. I'm pretty sure that other than Sylvia, I have no crossover friends with Facebook, so felt no guilt or compulsion to speak up about your Facebook follower. On Facebook, you control who can follow you and see who is currently following you. You set your privacy settings to match your comfort level. If you click the down pointing arrow in the blue Facebook toolbar, choose Settings. If you choose Followers, you can see who is following you. If you wish to edit your privacy settings, choose Privacy from the left sidebar. You can see who sees your stuff, who can look you up and who can contact you. This is also where you make changes to only allow those that you are comfortable with 'seeing your stuff'. Obviously if someone cannot see your stuff (posts), they cannot follow you.

I honestly did not understand what this was even about and I'm on FB daily. I mainly browse from my desktop computer with Chrome, and only occasionally on my smartphone or iPod, and I have not noticed a lack of editing ability. I do not crowdsource business recommendations there, and don't share them either. I don't follow any businesses, unless it's to enter a giveaway, and then I delete them later. I have a limited number of 'friends' on FB - mainly family - and adjusted my settings to keep things more private. I agree nextdoor can be a better source, but around here it's a bit of a crapshoot, due to all the crackpots on there. And yeah, I think that's a bit of misinterpretation of site guidelines, woodrose...

We have better luck on Nextdoor when we were selling items and now that we're giving it away we only use ND. Generally those people are only in your local area, but I have a lady who likes my antiques and she comes up from Cameron (I'm in Raleigh) which is about an hour away. We met over ND. I've gotten used to the nonchalant responses on social media selling. Some are extremely presumptuous and others are ghosts after the first engagement. If I want to get rid of the item, even a free item, I have to be organized, responsive, and respectful. I found that when people put stuff on an online marketplace they're lazy about it. I don't realize that you have to respond to people, you have to answer questions, and you have to be available for it to be picked up or at least put it somewhere where it can be picked up when you're not home. Pretty easy things to do but I understand that some sellers are bad at it. When I post things, it's explicit with lots of pictures so there's no doubt what I'm trying to move. I try to look it up online to see if there's any provenance I can put with it if I don't have it myself. I've successfully moved to antique beds, antique radio, three antique dressers, antique tools, and lots of whatnots and whose it's. As for the artisanal bread not being selected at a food bank, they weren't going to buy it at the store in the first place. It being free wasn't going change their interest in it.

When this happened to me , I realized I had not turned off and restarted my computer in weeks; I did that and I had to log in again to facebook and it worked well.

I take it from your post that you are logged in. Maybe you need to download a program --like Adobe flash player or update your programs to be able to do some things??? I'm not sure. I think facebook has a lot of problems.

Originally my name would only come up every now and then when I or someone searched for it -- It was very strange. I contacted them and they did fix it (thankfully), but it just doesn't seem like something that should he be happening -- I mean my name should either come up or not -- why only sometimes come up? -- what program does "sometimes"???... That's a Huge glitch.

My girlfriend mentioned that she can't receive stuff (food, smiles, etc) when she does it freezes her phone (she's using her phone) so maybe it has something to do with the system you are using??? Hope you figure it out; let us know if you do.

I would bet your log in setting is just set wrong (like my name was). Have you tried changing your password and re-logging in just to see if that would help? Good luck.

Mitchdesj... I have rebooted and restarted several times
Carla... we dont use dialup. I am on Comcast High Speed internet. I do not know what to change in my settings to make it any different. I hesitate to contact FB again. I was reading some of the 'bugs' reported in their troubleshooting area and seems like they close your account if you bother them. I tried going in again after I read all your replies, same thing. Well, no big deal, just annoying. If I figure it out I will let you know.

It might help if you cleared your temporary files (cache) and cookies and then close your browser. Re-open your browser and log in again.

off the subject....

I'm getting a bunch of strangers signing up to be my friend...Have no idea who they are...most with mexican or asian names. One even written in the Chinese drawing letters.

Anyone else having that problem???
