Glass...clear white bar glasses. Most are from William Sonoma or Crate and Barrel. I get new ones every few years.

The idea of drinking anything out of plastic turns my stomach.

Our everyday drinking glasses (for water, milk, juice, soda) are glass. Some are clear, and some are cobalt blue. I haven't noticed any yellowing or etching.

Our everyday drinking glasses for wine are by Riedel (the "Vinum" series for the everyday use, the "Sommelier" for special occasions), but we don't put those in the dishwasher...

I like buying new everyday glasses (for water, milk, juice, etc.) every four or five years, though.... :-)

I don't like plastic or metal either.
I bought ours at a restraunt supply place and they hold up real well. They are heavier then the usual store bought and they are clear glass.

Maybe you should consider getting a water softener.

For the refrigerator I have a quart size water jug minus the top. :o)

Glass for me, dh and who ever wants to use them. For the kids we do have colored plastic glasses. It just makes sense for them to use plastic if they want too. They are lighter and smaller too. We also have every kind of coffee cup in there too. Dh steals the cups and leaves them all over the farm. Then he collects them when they are low in the cabinet and we have a bunch o cups again. Used to make me kinda mad that he did that but in the scope of things,, I now let it go in the 'who really cares but me folder'. I'm over it..lol

I will use only glass for drinking.

We just finished a complete kitchen remodel and in the process of packing everything up before the contractors arrived, we threw far more away than what we kept. Then, after the kitchen was complete, we went out and bought all new stuff; glasses, dishes, towels, salt & pepper shakers, baking dishes, pots and pans, pizza stone, etc.

We will be celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary next month and I feel like a newlywed every time I open the cupboard doors and see all that shiny new glassware. Love it!

We started using plastic when the kids were little and never grew out of it, but this thread makes me think I need to step it up to glass.

I have to have a stem on any glass I drink out of, so I have these nice goblets with stems. My DH prefers glasses that are just regular, so he has plain glasses.

Glass glasses only. I get them from Dollar General, though I noticed WalMart carrying the same kind now. They're real heavy clear glass, for $1 each.

I have several sets that match all four sets of dishes. For everyday we use insulated Tervis tumblers. They are double walled and come with an applique between the walls. A friend gave me one with a sewing machine and my screen name. It's just too humid here in FL to use anything else.

Glass only here too!

Our clear ones are from Williams-Sonoma; patterned ones are from Pier 1 and Crate & Barrel.

Guess we are just a bunch of rednecks!LOL We use plastic insulated glasses and I use an insulated mug with a handle.I use the insulated ones because they don't sweat and make rings on my furniture and nobody in this house knows how to use a coaster.LOL I like my insulated mug because the ice doesn't melt as fast.

glass here too. We started glass when the youngest daughter was about 1. We also use cloth table covers. I wanted the girls to learn table manners, and they did.

Right now, we are using our "good" crystal tumblers I brought back from Germany, along with the "good" dishes and stainless tableware. I got rid of all the everyday stuff in my moves over the last few years.

After all, what am I saving the "good stuff" for?

Well, when I say "everyday" glasses or dishes, those ARE the good ones. LOL!

I'm in the camp of liking the ones that don't sweat! During the day, I usually just swig out of a water bottle...I keep refilling them until they fall apart. :-)

Maybe I should just thin out the icky glass glasses and work our way toward the back of the cabinet--and then buy new.

Everyone here except me drinks from green glass glasses.

I drink sweet tea all day long from 24oz. Tervis tumblers. I don't like having to go back for refills so I bought the whoppers. LOL I bought one set and loved them so much that I got another set. Mine have palm trees on them.

When the kids are home they tease about "Mom's personal palm tree glasses."

Remember those glasses that jelly used to come in? Most of them had flowers painted on them. Well, my 2 youngest sons found some glasses just like them except they had red peppers painted on them. They bought me a set about 12 years ago and I'm still using them. Jammer wanted some mugs so we bought some, but they are too heavy for me. He seldom uses them too.

We have a variety of glasses. All shapes and sizes. We use them all and I know what you mean about the hard water etching the glass. I usually carry my coffee cup around with me all day. Whether it's full of coffee, water, tea or whatever. I'm very low maintenance. McC takes styrofoam cups with him to the garage and yards, but I wash them too and put them back for the next time. I also prefer something that won't sweat.

I use the OLD glasses that jelly use to come in! Lucked out and found a "set" of 6 at a yard sale and I love using them..they just seem so "clean"! lol

I have lots of "glass" glasses, but always use the big double-walled plastic ones that don't sweat.

Mine are blue, I think they are Libby. I purchased them when I worked at JCPenney about 8 or 9 years ago.

We have an assortment, some glass, some pale purple plastic that we've had for over 20 years. Mostly I drink out of my blue water bottle all day but then I switch to crystal in the evening.

DH is a retired wholesale liquor salesman so we have bar type glasses with Early Times or some other logo on them. Same with wine glasses. We have several boxes in our storage room in case of breakage.
DH prefers Mason canning jars for water or milk.

I have several coffee mugs that I rotate and use for everything, tea, juice, water. I'm the only one who uses mugs, DH drinks his coffee out of one of the insulated mugs, but uses a jelly jar for juice and water, and DGS uses 6-7 glass and/or plastic cups a day.

I like glass, have them in all sizes and colors. My favorite for drinking iced tea is a quart 'canning' jar with handle. DH uses whatever he comes to first in the cupboard be it glass or plastic.

I just replaced our 20 year old everyday glassware with a whole new set from Williams Sonoma. Gave the old stuff to Goodwill. We love the shape of these and they feel nice and sturdy when held...the pattern is called Siena:

Almost all are clear glass ... some have square bottom, rounded, with round top. Some have round bottom, some of them with moulded fluting at the bottom.

Each has full size hole in top.

No small hole down side - don't leak when drinking.

Some of the smaller juice glasses have an etched pattern.

I like the insulation in summer and have some foamy covers to put over some of them.

I have some plastic ones that I sometimes use for juice and flavoured water in summer, and picnics.

My cousin's husband, former football player, who worked for a dairy, imported high quality double-walled plastic tumblers about 40 years ago that the dairy used as promotional items: they were popular.

Few glasses ever get displaced by more updated models around here - the only way that most go out of service is via breakage.

Actually, I use a variety of mugs a lot - but mainly for milk and hot drinks.

Daughter gave me a huge one with "A R I Z O N A" around it in big letters ... about 3 3/4" across (most about 2 3/4"), 3 3/4" deep (most about 3 1/4"). The written differences don't sound like much (though you can tell that there's much more capacity when looking at it) but it holds about 2/3 more than the regular ones.

The trouble with using it is that usually one has to re-heat in the microwave about half a dozen times, over the course of the half a day or so that it takes to swallow one load.

I have been known to fold a washcloth strategically and safety-pin it around a glass or a mug to keep the liquid cool for longer, and reduce the sweating that can be a nuisance in humid summer weather. When I have cold milk in a mug, using a tin food-can lid for a coaster ... the darn sweaty mug tends to pick up the can lid ...

... dropping it to the floor with a "ding" while en route to my mouth. That's when it helps for a mug to get "tipsy" when taking off ... but, as with people ... not *too* tipsy, as that can lead to problems!

Plastic here- glass gets too slippery and I always feel like I'm going to drop it(plus I'm clumsy) Everything I drink is heavily iced and I feel like glass warms it up to much.

I use the Tervis tumblers too. Ours have mostly palm trees and flamingos on them, but you can get them with most any design. They never sweat and are guaranteed for life. We take them golfing with us also. Love 'em

Mine are clear, similar to Tally's and also from Williams Sonoma. They are "Duralex" and made in France. I've used the same style glasses for close to 30 years.

I have one set of glasses. My daughter bought them for us as a Christmas gift when she was in college. So that was sometime between 1978 and 1981. It was a set of 24 in 3 sizes, came from France and claimed to be break resistant. I still have and use 22 of them. Two of the juice glasses fell victim to the garbage disposal. If you can find any that claim to be break resistant, buy them!

Mine are also similar to Tally's but came from a restaurant supply house [you don't have to be in the business to buy there]
But the real reason I got that style was that they stacked on the shelves without bobbling around or getting 'stuck together' unlike others we had at the time.

I like clear sparkling glass. I just buy Boxed Glass Cheapies for everyday. I do have 4 colored plastic glasses that I got a Bed Bath and Beyond.

Mine are short I guess you'd call them Old-fashioned drink glasses. round and squatty. and plastic. I don't like something that is easy to tip over. I also got some neat short glasses in the Dollar Spot at Target a while back bought 6 at $1 each then got all they had left when they went 75% off.

You know, I have to honest here and say I am very wary of reusing plastic glasses and plates. They scratch more easily than glass and ceramic, and are probably more prone to harboring bacteria. I don't use plastic cutting boards either for the same reason.

I found this article from Ohio State regarding an experiment they did on dishwashing -

"Dishes are not created equally -- compared to ceramic plates, steel knives, spoons, forks and plastic trays are prime growing spots for bacteria."
