Anywhere in the south. People are in no hurry whatsoever. I have to admit, its irritating sometimes-especially in stores.

Hawaiian Islands!

Right here in the center of Iowa and also in the Hawaiian Islands, as Carol said. People in Iowa aren't trying to impress anyone by owning a big house, expensive car, large wardrobe, etc. Midwesterners are frugal.

New Mexico is pretty laid back. It's the land of manana.

Kauai, Hawaii. Beautiful place, but I think everyone was stoned. Too laid back for me. Sedona, AZ is pretty laid back, but not in a bad way (love it there).

To me, "laid back" also refers to an acceptance of others. Here in California, at least in the coastal areas, I find lots of acceptance and tolerance of others. Hawaii, and the rest of the coastal areas of the west coast, too. On the East Coast, most large cities are very tolerant.

Do you mean where people aren't "snobby" - if so then in Ontario Windsor is pretty laid back. We are known as a"lunch bucket town" by the rest of Ontario - meaning London and Toronto. Lunch bucket town is farther than the truth but we don't care what they say about us. LOLOL

Another vote for Hawaii. The bus dsrivers in Honolulu drive slow and let everyone go ahead of them. Laid back, polite, I'd live there if I had money!

I'd love a condo vacation home there, but I'm in NY and it is an 11 hour flight.

In Canada I would have to say the Maritimes. Hard working, honest, geniuine, would give you the shirts of their backs but love a good time. They have their priorities straight and know how to enjoy life.

Have you driven on the 285 loop de loops aka Nascar Practice Track aka I-75 Atlanta Bypass at 5pm on a Friday Evening? Or how about I-75 from Atlanta to Knoxville. Or I-40 from Knoxville to Nashville.

I got pulled over one night by a state trooper on I-75.
I knew I was speeding and was sure I was getting a ticket.
He told me to pick up the pace or I was gonna get run over out here.

Off the interstate highways life it a lot slower (and safer).

Hawaii! Oahu, outside of Waikiki and other touristy-kitsch-y areas. Kauai is pretty slow. Lanai too. Maui, outside of Kaanapali/Lahaina. Big Island, outside of Kona and some of the Waikoloa area.

I have this dream that if enough people visit Hawaii and bring enough Aloha home with them the world will be saved!

In Hawaii it's all about the ohana (family, but not just YOUR family) and the aina (the land -- respect for it). Just addressing someone with, "Aloha," reminds you to be caring of that person.

I keep CD's of Hawaiian music in the car to help me survive traffic and crazy drivers around Chicagoland. There's one in my bedside player. (I even take it with me TO Hawaii.)

It may be a bit frantic in Hawaii right NOW, with 'Felicia' bearing down on Maui County; hope there's just *some* rain and not bad wind and flooding.

LOL - I guess no one has been to my town - Panama City Beach, Florida - this is the SLOWEST place I have ever been! People here just mozy along, rarely go the speed limit - too busy looking at the ocean and scenery - I always start out way early if I have an appointment.

I'm from Missouri - things are laid back there, too, except on the freeway.
