Thanks for all the responses to my "looking for a tablet" post several weeks ago. This is my First KT post using my Nexus 7! I am getting used to it and liking how convenient it is to pick up and use. I did have a few hilariously bad posts on facebook while trying to use the talk to post feature! My son said it was the worst "drunk status" he ever saw. Of course he was joking because I was not drunk.

That's funny! I love my tablet and know you'll like yours more and more as you use it. So handy, so compact.

I like to pull up things of interest to entertain my grandkids, nursery rhymes and songs on youtube, pictures of dinosaurs, etc. We even used it when the grandkids were just little babies and unexplicably crying, could not stop them--they liked certain little videos (Sesame Street songs). It was helpful then, as you can imagine.

Have fun, and try to get over that "drunk" phase, ok? LOL!

I am using mine right now too but these days I use it most of the time.
Enjoy, and don't hesitate to ask if you find something you don't know how to do or need help with.

Are you using a wireless router or have you set the laptop up as a hot spot? If a router tell us make and model, which windows is the laptop? Is it set up with WEP or WPA security?

Katlan yes there is a time period of protection for them, I don't recall right off what it is. You can also purchase the square trade 1 year protection plan for it. If you click on one of the tablets, I clicked on the red Asus, you can read more about it and will see the offer by square trade. I see that one also comes with a 90 day warranty from Asus. They have good support. When I bought my first tablet I thought it would be just a new plaything. Now today with the tablet I have, I would be very upset if I didn't have it. I use it every single day and night. I find I am rarely on my computers. Which for me is great. At my computer I am in my wheelchair, using my tablet I can be extremely comfortable in my recliner, couch, chairs, bed. So I love that aspect too, it easily goes anywhere. And unlike my laptop I don't have to worry about it over heating and keeping the vents on the bottom open by using a flat surface. A tablet doesn't have those issues. I thought it would be a plaything, but it has become a very integral important part of my life. About the funny things that are on woot, you just have to know woot, they have always been silly like that, but I order from them often and never been disappointed. You have several options: Get an ipad with built in LTE Have a phone with LTE capabilities already and use this as hotspot I personally have an iPad with built in LTE/4G. It works wonderfully. In reality, you can make your smartphone a hotspot and share the mobile signal when you are in an area where wifi is not available. Although the iPad with LTE is about $100 more expensive than the same iPad without, the cell providers like AT&T make it just as expensive to use your smart phone as a hotspot as to activate the LTE service on your ipad. If you want two units that allow you to browse the internet anywhere, get an iPad with LTE. You should be able to add service to the unit from the cell phone carrier that you only pay for when you use it. Mine is part of the mobile share plan for my cell phone so apart from the activation fee, it does not cost me more to use. The iPad with LTE does have an addition functionality which is the upgraded GPS capability so that you can use it as a GPS more accurately. Regarding Android versus Apple, Android is more susceptible to virus because of its open source nature and the fact its Android app store is more prevalent. There are more android users than apple users. Having said that, I think you should go to a best buy or somewhere like that where you can look at both machines and determine which ones work for you. Usability is a huge factor for me. Let money be a secondary consideration. I agree with Rococogurl about the future compatibility of the tablet you pick. Androids don't update much of the Operating System where Apple products are compatible, based on previous history, for about 4 major releases of the OS. This translates to about 3years of support on the existing hardware. I work in IT and implement technologies that use both Android and Apple ecosystems. Good luck!

This is very special of you to do this Sue! My father In-law was a vet of 3 wars (WWII, Korea, & Vietnam), I know how much effort & love he put into his VFW post, but alas, most of his peers and him have passed on. I wish I had been quilting when he was alive, I would have been proud to make the post a quilt for fund raising. So special for such a deserving group!

I just got my niece a Nexus 7 (well, she did a lot of work for me around the house to earn it!), and I've been playing with it and love it!

Glad you are enjoying your tablet. I recently got the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 and love it as does my grand daughter. The only thing I miss on it is the Adobe Flash. Does the Nexus 7 have the flash player?
These little gadgets are great to have while sitting in front of the t.v. and another great thing is, they don't heat up like a laptop.

Lizzann...I was just reminded about Flash absence on my Ipad..trying to watch Aerial America...
I thought maybe it was just an Apple problem..
So is it a tablet problem too?

I take my Ipad everywhere..it goes to work with me everyday...in the yard..
I bought a wireless printer so I could use it with my Ipad..
I have very little need for a PC anymore. I do use the PC for word documents, only because I need to be able to use the full keyboard..

I have tons of Kindle books loaded..
I let a little girl play on it last Saturday that was bored at the event we were at..her mother was thrilled.

I have tons of learning game apps because I let my students use it for reward.

It is an adobe thing they have quit making flash for android however you can still have it work on your tablet and watch videos etc, I have it on mine and I have the latest version of Android Jellybean.
You will need to get and install one of the older versions of flash, it will depend on which browser you use some will allow flash some do not, chrome will not, firefox does, I use firefox because I also use the adblock plus add on just like on my pc.

If you want to go ahead and get flash and install it , very simple to do, go to the link scroll way down the page till you see flash player for Android 4.0 list in that list the one I am using it the one with this version number 11.1.115.27 find it and click it to download and install, you may have to go into your settings and allow 3rd party installs since it is coming from other than the google play store but that is fine and it is safe to do. Will not hurt anything, I have had it on mine since I got it and I installed it.
Then it is just a matter of seeing if the browser you are using will support the flash player. If not download the firefox for android browser from the play store, you can have add ons for it just like the regular firefox.

there are lots of forums for Android that also explain how to use flash. That is how I found out and got the info.
Adobe has just simply quit making it and many sites are just no longer using flash and going to the newer formats.

Now those with amazon devices may not work since amazon changed android from the standard version to make it more amazon specific and limited/proprietary , can try it though.

oh and no this does NOT work on any apple devices they specifically do NOT use flash or adobe products.

Flash is totally different than adobe reader, adobe reader is still available and comes on most android tablets, and other os.
The adobe flash is for the video and animations, if you are not able to view flash video and it mentions lack of flash plug in this is what you can fix by following the instructions in the link I provided, if it's an android device. .
Adobe reader or other pdf readers are readily available for pretty much all tablets and brands.
I don't use adobe reader on my computer either, I prefer an alternative, pdf xchange or Sumatra.

Thanks Raven, followed your directions and now have it on my tablet. Haha, gotta admit though before I did it, I was having serious doubts that I could actually do it, but hey I did it and surprisingly easy to do.

yes indeed super easy to do and definitely worth it for those sites that have not yet moved on from flash. If you find sites you use often that are still using flash let them know you can no longer use their site due to the flash issues and that might make them wake up and move on to the newer technologies available.

The older versions of Android did not have this problem it will be the newer ones since Adobe stopped making the new flash updates for android. This work around will work for now and hopefully most sites will move on and leave flash behind.
