lost my yahoo contact list

Hi!

Longtime lurker, but I don't post much.

Anyway...I was in my yahoo mail this AM, and wanted to send an email. Imagine my dismay and shock to find my extensive contact list was GONE! Not one address was there! I have no idea what happened between yesterday and today, and I have not idea how to get it back. A friend told me it would be on my computer "somewhere", but I wouldn't even know where to begin to look.

I did email yahoo, and got an auto-response telling me that I would hear from them within 24 hours.

Let this be a lesson, Folks - backup your contact list!

Check your Recycle Bin first. If it's not there,type the name of the folder (e.g.Contact List) in your search field. It's usually near your list of programs or startup.

Do you have the Yahoo browser and toolbar or just access Yahoo email?
This will make a difference in possible recovery.

In Firefox go to tools > Add-ons > Extensions and click on Ad Block Plus, then click on options. Either add yahoo to the exceptions or maybe remove it from one of the excluded lists if you find it there. That may solve your problem. If not someone else will come along with a better solution.

I should have also said: Be sure you know which folder your browser is set to for downloaded files. Change it to another if you would find that easier to work with (I create a "c:\downloads" folder on all my PCs. I point all browsers to that folder, so that I don't need to crawl down too many levels to find files) The file that will be in whatever folder you download to, that you'll attach to an email, is named: yahoo_ab.csv You should maybe first double check that it came out ok by navigating to it using Windows Explorer and then opening it with whatever spreadsheet program you use.

Linda and Sylvia are exactly correct. If the agent that is showing a buyer a home, has no Agency Agreement with that buyer, then they are a sub agent of the seller by default. And most listing agents do not offer compensation to sub agents, as described above. I once had one LA demand that I show him my Buyers Agency Agreement midway through the transaction, in hopes that I did not have one, so that he would not have to pay me a commission. Kudos to Sylvia and Linda for being current on Agency Relationship laws, as I believe a lot of agents are not aware of this.

dilly dally, I have the toolbar and Yahoo search - is that the same as the browser?

I have yahoo but I also use Incredimail, and I love it. Its a free program and the format for e-mails and stuff is so much easier and fun, than yahoo, plus it imports everything from yahoo, so you end up with two accounts, that way if one doesn't work, you always have another one.

I backup my Yahoo address book at least a couple times a year. You never know when they might change rules or something and you could lose everything. You're pretty much at their mercy when you deal with the webmail but they do have their advantages.

I had that happen to me about a year ago, but there was a way of recovering it. I just don't remember HOW I did it, but look around their mail site. Maybe even ask Google. I was so relieved to get it back. I think someone had hijacked my account because right around the same time all of my contacts got an email from me that I didn't send. Also watch out if you have an Ebay or Paypal account. I had a problem with that at the same time and it took several weeks to get my money back from Paypal.

An update may have disassociated your contact list "email address book" from your email utility. If you are very lucky, it is still on your hard drive - somewhere.

Last year when I installed an update to my ThunderBird email utility, I lost my address book. Yeah, yeah, I know - should've backed up my address book.
