Need the name of the stuff credit card companies use

on their mailings to glue-like plastic cards to their applications or flyers. I need to use that stuff and I have no idea what it is called. Anybody know????? Help please!! Thanks, Tami

Is it rubber cement? Just guessing.

no it's sticky but it will come right off. I see it used in all kinds of mailings. Gift cards from companies and they use that stuff to attach the gift card to the letter they send you.

But to keep shopping for cards - I hate to have so many opening and closing credit cards on my credit. When they cross me, I just inform them that I won't be using their card anymore...that it will be stored safely at the back of the file (or whatever) and never carried or used....just to let them know it is unlikely I will ever be using them. I rather think that the average joe customer service really does not care much. Maybe it would get their attention if one was to drop the 'approved amount from 5, 10, 20, or 50 K down to say $500...and then stick it in drawer. It seems they really want to give us some money (debt) yet aren't willing to give folks even with super credit rating, super rates. I just checked and my Discover (the only one I regularly use and always pay off each month) has a rate of 17.49% for purchases, and 22.99% for cash advances. Sheesh...Let's revolt! I think I'll call now and ask that they remove that cash advance option....suggesting for security reasons. That rate is outrageous. When I checked a score (it wasn't FICO but some other name and scale) a year or so ago, it said my score was 98.5...only 1.5 away from being 100 percent perfect. Shouldn't that warrant a pretty decent rate? Sue

oldmanriver, Some people have had good results doing the negotiations with the creditor companies themselves. One needs to have a good idea of what one wants before starting, and lots of reasons why that's the route to go. Remember - they don't want you to declare bankruptcy. You don't, either, unless you owe buckets of money, for the expenses involved in going bankrupt are substantial. And you lose almost all of your possessions. Plus - you have a bad credit history for many years. Which may not matter too much - if you don't want to ask for credit for some time. However, as I was a newly arrived tenant recently, the fuel company wanted a deposit from me before they delivered fuel. Had they checked my credit history and found a bankruptcy, quite likely it would have been somewhat higher. Whether you make arrangments with your creditors yourself or use the non-profit Credit Counselling, make sure that you can live with the arrangement, and make sure to follow through on the agreemeents that you make: don't default, even once. Forget the "minimum required monthly payment" issue - pay off as quickly as possible. But make sure that the monthly amount that you promise to pay is an amount that you can manage. Then make those payments, for sure - but pay extra when possible. Try to pay off all of the creditors as fast as you can - making additional payments above the amount that you agreed to, when possible. Cut your spending to the bone, for a while, until at least the major portion of your debt is paid. If some of the creditors insist on maintaining a substantial interest rate, do you have collateral that you could use to obtain a loan from a credit union or bank, or would they agree to a loan at lower than the rate your current creditor is charging, so that you could pay that loan off? Thank you all for your replies. You have taught me a lot of things which I have not thought about before. I thought originally that paying by credit card or cash advance was just as easy as shopping at grocery store, and I did not have to deal with loan paper work, its going back forth process, or long wait. I really appreciate all your views and explanations. You guys are wonderful. P.S. Except sometimes I found that there has always been someone who does not comment on the original post itself, but something totally un-related. Even if I were a drug dealer or a criminal, shouldn't I have a right to post a question. I have come to the garden forum and home forum quite often to seek helps and learn a lot of things. I really enjoy making friends and knowing a lot of kind people here. People here have always been so helpful, kind, and open-hearted. I have been quite touched that people care about one another, when I come to the sites. I don't think anyone who is a drug dealer would spend his/her time on this kind of helping-each-other forum. My husband and I are just helping my mother-in-law with her own personal business. Anyway, I am ignoring the harsh comment on something I have never done. After all, it's not useful to me, so I don't need to pay much attention to it. I value the rest of comments a great deal. Thank you.

Some folks paying that high interest on those credit card debts may not have seen this, last time around. I'm wondering how much of a reduction they might have been able to achieve with the store-issued card people - that usually charge 25 - 28%. Unless the stuff that you bought is tax-deductible ... that interest must be paid with after-tax income, folks. If you're in 20% tax bracket, it means that when you earn $5.00, you pay tax of $1.00 and have $4.00 left to buy things. So if your interest rate is 28%, divide that by 4 to get 7, then add the 7 to the 28 to make 35. You earn $35.00, pay $7.00 tax and have $28.00 on hand to pay that interest on $100. purchase (suppose you were dealing with a year, but you must pay some monthly ... but usually the required amount is only slightly above the amount of interest added that month). Which means that if you pay only minimum monthly, or slightly more ... ... that bill will run (almost) forever. Oh - you figure to die before "forever"? Right ... most of us do, don't we? Wouldn't rubber cement stick to the paper and the plastic though? I don't want it to permanently stick. Thanks - sorry for sounding so dumb but I am not sure about it.

I don't think what they use is rubber cement - at least not the kind we can buy.

Try some glue dots - you can buy them in scrapbook stores. I am pretty sure they have "removable" ones. If not, the regular kind would be somewhat removable. Glue dots come on wax paper strips and they are the handiest little things for attaching stuff. I use them in scrapbooking and card making.

I attached a link to show you what Glue Dots are. I haven't used this particular brand - but the do have "low tack" ones.

Rubber Cement - Rubbery product that sticks like cement but peels off easily.

I have a bottle of Elmer's "Rubber Cement". It does not roll up or peel off like what you are talking about. You can very, very carefully peel apart two pieces of sturdy paper, but most times one surface or the other is damaged. A thin coating of it can be rolled off a surface, mostly, but not completely. This stuff was one of my DH"s biggest disappointments in life...he has been on a hunt for that type of adhesive for years.

I know this!

It's a hot glue used in a hot glue gun....

I found this on an Internet search:

"Fugitive (Removable) Adhesive
- This fugitive hot melt glue is commonly referred to as temporary hold, peel-able "Credit Card Glue". Ideal for gift baskets and other multiple packaging as well as magazine, brochure and letter inserts."

There's a stuff that teachers use to attach sheets of paper and other light things to various locations, which holds well, temporarily, and can be removed from the surface, or the paper, easily.

Sort of light-coloured and malleable. I don't remember what it's called.

Ask an office-supply or school-supply ... or a crafting store.
