Well, got a NO good news email from my realtor. She couldn't reach us, cause we were on a bike ride, and have our cell phones off to be not disturbed.

The buy went sour. Their inspector mentioned the slope in the back yard, the one that goes towards the house.. and promptly the couple fled the scene.

Even with torrential rains we never had any water problems, but I guess, that was a big worry for them.

Back to the drawing board.

Now, I have more time to dig some plants out (yeah), but also have to weed, as there will be an open house next weekend, and I need to wash windows and stuff there.

I much rather finish unpacking her.

Drat.

It's true - we are desperate for the sun.......we immediately flock to a public park, get down to our vests and stretch out like basking sharks (in March, if we get a chance). I am old enough to recall liberty bodices - sort of felted undergarments which we wore from November through to Easter. Melissa, the soil, when I get to it, is truly remarkable....the only thing is the acres of ivy crossing and recrossing every inch of ground.....along with the vicious brambles (although mulching head of the brushcutter is sorting that). Oh yeah, those nettles which cover every inch between the ivy vines.........it's going to be a long job.....but as soon as the spade cuts through the top layer of vine and root, it sinks into the earth like a huge downy pillow - tantalisingly out of reach but there still, waiting for many hands to start the ivy pulling and rakeover (off again later today and taking my boys (men) to help. Nik, we are all turning our eyes east to Europe these days and shivering in the chill winds of emerging fascism. We have 2 strands of this in the UK - the crazy but delusional UKIP (no immigrants...and a whole slew of other, less publicised goals) and the horrific coalition of thugs and hate-mongers which comprises the EDL and assorted racist bullies.Truly hope all is well for you and yours. Daisy, I surely will take pics....but 2500, while it sounds a lot, is actually hardly anything when spread around 5 acres. With an eye to establishing colonies, the bulbs have been planted in groups of 100 or so, spread around the woodland - it will be a start but I expect to be waiting at least 5 years before we really have something worth looking at.

Greybird, unfortunately, it doesn't rain all the time. It's just humid all the time (which I like). This summer we had a lot more rain than in the recent past - often 2 or 3 times a week. I would water so that they'd be watered every other day, one way or the other. Apparently, that was not enough by the looks of my plants now. There's really no comparison. The rain pretty much stopped in mid-October, and we'll get maybe 2 - 3 inches per month on average until late June. Sometimes we get a few months worth in one month, and then it's real dry for long stretches. When I got home from work, I stuck my fingers in the ground in a couple of places. The top 3" weren't even damp but not quite dry, so I watered again. It is becoming very apparent that the roses need it. It is making a huge difference. Jean Bach Sisley is no longer a see-thru bush, and they're all leafing out like I haven't seen except for early spring. I'm just amazed. I water each plant by counting one-thousand-one, one-thousand-two up to 15 or 20. That should be putting at least a gallon (maybe more; I need to measure it in a bucket) daily. Even the potted roses are doing better (they were leafless sticks for the last several months watered every other day). Roses growing in my garden definitely need daily watering - and it's only in the mid-80s during the day and down in the 50s at night. And still they dry out too much to keep the roses satisfied. I have read many times that water, water, water is the main thing with roses, especially in Florida, but I had no idea they required it daily. You folks with clay need to count your blessings, because you are definitely blessed. Which is not to say that we here are not blessed. We have other blessings that need to be counted, too, but moisture-holding clay is not one of them. I guess all that sunshine accounts for a lot of our blessings :)) Sherry

Val, that's an awesome pic! I have that one. So the general consensus is that temps too cold can affect the color of (supposed to be) white or yellow blooms. That's fascinating. So one could take cuttings from a same plant, give them different conditions & end up with 2 diff flower colors? That's unusual. I can't think of any other plants, in or out, that do that (though some that vary due to PH issues come to mind.) And 'we' seem to agree some flowers just naturally have different colored buds from the inside of the flowers? So it looks like I've got a bunch of red & pink plants but no purple. That's cool, I like to have goals & now know what to seek when it's time for some trades in a few months. So who has one with purple flowers? What color are the buds - orange - LOL!? This one I got at WM a few weeks ago had a white flower on it, before this discussion so didn't realize it was potentially unusual. By the time I took its' pic, it was turning pink. By the time it shriveled, it was all very pink. Just checked, doesn't look like it's going to make new buds, the definitely white unopened ones in the pic all fell off.

Thank you ALL for your responses, is great to know this is something simple I can keep my eye on myself. I have written this inside my address book so I remember next time, and owbist, you are so patient, had I read farther in another posting, I would have read your words, and now have copied all for posterity. Just when i thought I had it down to know what I was doing, here we go again, and so glad I wrote every thing down, I learned that here many years ago! Trying to make a small notebook of the things that I don't do too often and use it for referrals, maybe I won't have to bother so much anymore. This forum is such a great resource. Would like to know tho, what is Registry Mechanic? A balloon pops up at startup, and says it is on, is this something from c cleaner, or... something I don't need? Your comments on updates owbist are well taken, and I am ready now, at least pretty sure I can handle this myself next time. You all are the greatest, appreciate the feedback so much, negative, and positive, makes one think, and helps learn too.

I'm sorry that didn't work out, but I hope this Open House this weekend will bring a couple interested parties.

Housing must be picking up around here. We moved in a month ago and now the house next door has someone moving in. The house four houses away is also recently sold. That is 3 on this block and there is one more on the other side of us.

I wish I could get some plants from our old house, especially some of those Hostas.

Well, phooey, Moni! Your house is gorgeous and I have no doubt that it'll sell.

We just bought one in west Tulsa very near our daughter. Actually, it might be Sand Springs.....wherever Rolling Oaks is. Yours would have been at the top of our list had DD not wanted us to live so close to her.

I'll keep our fingers crossed that yours sells soon, as in this week.

That stinks Moni. I sure hope it'll sell soon for you. So you don't have to keep weeding and keeping it looking just so so. Is there some way you can explain you've never had a water problem the entire time you lived there?

Maybe I asked before, but have you "planted" a St. Joseph statue?...Everyone that I know that has had a house for sale has planted the statue and the house sold in days....My daughter sold her's in 4 days with just a sign outside, not even listed....It is weird but it works....

Things happen for a reason. You will sell and you will get a great price. It took us 6 months to sell our house. We didn't have any open houses or even a for sale sign in front (DH hates those). We had lots of people come through and say..."eewww...the bathroom is pink".

It only takes one buyer that will jump at the chance to own your home.

Keep the faith

PS....I'll be doing ritual soon and I will ask the Goddess of Home (Hestia) to help you out. It worked for us.
