The answer to your question is yes. Tropical fruits are very easy to grow in tropical climates. It is not that Western fruits are difficult to grow, but rather there tends to be a wider variation non-tropical climates and it will be easier if you find a fruit variety that is best suited to the particular climate type. For example, some fruit trees only like a little cold in Winter, others like more cold. Some fruit trees do better with some humidity, other fruit trees do not do well in high levels of humidity. Some fruit trees do well in humidity but need a dry Summer because the humidity will cause damage to the fruit. In addition, tropical plants tend to grow faster in moist sunny tropical climates than Western plants do in temperate zones because there is less sunlight the further away from the equator. Sunlight is not always good, of course, many Western plants would become dried out or sunburned if they received the same high level of sunlight as plants in tropical zones get. Tropical plants tend to be very resistant to fungal disease because they originated from the tropics. In contrast, Western plants often do not have much resistance because in the climate they originate from the plants lose their leaves every Winter, so this helped stop the spread of disease and insects. When you try to grow Western plants in warmer climates, often all sorts of problems appear and have to be dealt with. Warm and humid, combined with the absence of a freezing Winter, will cause disease. Another problem, in many parts of California it is dry and many plants can become more vulnerable to disease if they are not consistently watered. And yet, it is best to avoid spraying the water onto the plant's leaves too frequently because this will also encourage fungal disease. Water the base of the plant near the roots, avoid spraying the entire plant with water. It is possible to grow Lychee and Java Apple in coastal Southern California (climate zone 10) but of course they do not grow as fast or quite as well as they do in tropical climates.
