?? for Los Angeles/Orange Co residents

My mom, DD and I will be flying to LAX in September for a wedding in Beverly Hills. We plan on going to Disneyland for a couple of days after the wedding. I am having a particularly hard time finding transportation from Beverly Hills to Anaheim. I really do not want to rent a car. Super Shuttle will take us back to the airport from Anaheim but they want a small fortune to take us from hotel in Beverly Hills to hotel in Anaheim. Does anyone who lives in that area have any suggestion for transportation. Would a taxi cost a small fortune too? I'm assuming it would. TIA

Angela,

I think there is a shuttle (a 45 passenger bus) that goes from LAX to Anaheim, and back to LAX when you are ready. Are you staying in Beverly Hills? If so you can ask the hotel that you will be staying at to advise you. Also, Super Shuttle is really high when it comes to taking you to and fro. I believe that a taxi would be the way to get to Beverly Hills. They know how to make the trip fast and efficent.

I will do some online investigating and let you know what I find out.

I would ask either at the airport or at the hotel about a daily shuttle for the commute. Like Susan, I think there's got to be some kind of a shuttle that goes between LAX & O.C. Surely there must be some kind of transportation other than a taxi because so many people would want the same thing.

When I first contacted Kim about roses, he gave me a reading list of books written by several very successful breeders. My favorite author is Jack Harkness, but LeGrice is right up there. Harkness's book Roses is a very complete and insightful study of species roses and their hybrids. You can learn a lot about what traits various species roses have brought into the rose gene pool. LeGrice ... is incredible. If you want to learn about bloom color ... read LeGrice. The other books were equally as important as they gave me a sense of the timeline of the development of modern roses, and studying them gave me even more information about the traits found in the rose family. Cultural information may be "dated" and biased because both of these breeders were from England, but the knowledge they share about the botany of the plants is detailed and very much worth learning. I read these books periodically because every time I read them, I am bringing more personal knowledge and experience with me and see the information with "new eyes". I also made my own lineage trees by hand because HMF did not have the lineage report feature online. Even though I can go through a lineage report on HMF and understand it, I think the exercise of doing my own lineage reports and looking up the species roses and the other roses included in the lineage gave me a deeper understanding of the make up of the rose. A seedling may look like it is a good rose, but you really won't know if it is a worthy cross until you have carried it forward for several years. A juvenile plant often performs differently in many ways than a more mature plant. It takes time to learn how to see roses through a "breeder's eyes". You are on your way, but you have only had the opportunity to touch the surface of what it takes to breed good roses. Also, it takes time to reach the point where you can learn from the best teacher of all things roses .... the rose. I love your enthusiasm. You'll need it to help you to meet your goals. To eradicate these pests from this area, I am ordering ground applications of pesticides be made to all ACP hosts within an 800-meter radius around the detection site and the removal of all HLB-infected trees. If additional HLB-infected ACP and/or HLB are detected in the survey area, the treatment area may expand to an 800-meter radius around any additional infested properties." Wallaman, you have a ton of suckers growing up from the base of the tree trunk. You should remove those ASAP and return this tree to a single trunk beauty. It is a navel as fireball stated above and looks to be at least 25-30 years old. You have some twig die back in the center of the tree that needs to be cut out before spring, no big deal branches die sometimes we just need to help the tree get rid of them. It will sprout new branches and the void will get filled back in with time. Your tree is very nice, wish I had a big full tree like that. It probably hasn't been fertilized in a long time, if ever at all. In about 6 weeks from now, sprinkle about 5 lbs of good citrus fertilizer under the canopy and water it in for about an hour with an old school lawn sprinkler that moves back and forth (unless you have irrigation). Then repeat in May and August and sit back and enjoy the show the tree puts on. Your tree will be so full of blooms by the end of February beginning of March it will be incredible and the smell will be equally astonishing. I can certainly understand that if you aren't used to driving in Los Angeles traffic, you would not want to rent a car. I have been driving in Los Angeles off and on since I was 18 so it wouldn't bother me to drive there but lots of folks just don't encounter traffic of that magnitude in their home states.

I have driven to LA many times but I would prefer not to rent a car if I don't have to. I would just as soon have someone else do the driving.

I'm really not having problems getting transportation to and from the airport. When we get to LA, we will be attending a wedding in Beverly Hills. My problem is getting transportation from the Beverly Hilton to our hotel in Anaheim. Super Shuttle wants about $130 to get us from the Beverly Hilton to our hotel in Anaheim. That seems really expensive to me for a 45 minute drive. Do you think a taxi would cost that much?

Sometimes when a group of us were going to a hotel from the airport, the taxicab was cheaper because there were enough to fill one cab. The Shuttle cost more. So it depends on how many of you, etc.
