Where have the dinner mints gone????

I've lost lots of weight due to my chemo treatments. I am gaining now, but when there is something that I'm hungry for...I buy it! I have been so hungry for dinner mints to snack on. Suddenly our 1 grocery store is out of mints, the Dollar General is out, and so is my ex-bosses convenience store. Okay, I live in a small town so all of that is no surprise. But, today I went shopping at a

WalMart and they were sold out of dinner mints. What's going on????

Looks like you need to buy in bulk. LOL!

Thank you both for the warm wishes. I wished Brian a happy birthday from everyone. We really didn't have a lot of plans made. It's so rare that we get time together that we sort of lived it up the last time the kids went away for a few days. We basically spent the entire day sleeping and watching TV. We did grill some nice fat steaks though which sure did beat eating out. Little did we know how much we would need that rest come Saturday. We actually ended up having to drive to Georgia to go pick the kids up. It's supposed to be a 3.5 hour drive but apparently there was a wreck on our way there. I never saw evidence of a wreck but needless to say we left at 1pm and didn't get there until almost 8pm. There were people all along the road overheated and broke down from waiting in the traffic. Our car has a radiator leak in it and I was certain we were next. BLAH? Anyway, fortunately we got through it with the heat blaring uneventfully and at least we got to laze around the Chattahoochee for a while afterward and I officially saw my sister off. She will be going to China in a week so this will be the last time I see her for at least six months. As far as kids and school goes, I home school so we just finished testing and I have to send their tests in this week. Not quite uneventful this time of year but I am happy to not have to attend open houses and all of the other complexities of starting public school. I think I would go into sensory overload. I admire those who can deal with it heh. ANYWAY..(babble babble) I went ahead and dug up a few of those sunflowers tonight and I'll get that dusty miller out of the ground tomorrow sometime. They will be in the dirt they were planted in which is our marvelous Carolina clay but they both grow magnificently in it. I'll have to go through my emails. I think I am suppose to bring you some other stuff and I'll make sure to get that together as well. Fran - They are calling for it to rain all week.. not that what they call for makes a difference here lately but... whenever you'd like to stop by and get a piece you are welcome. I'm best after 5pm haha. You are close enough to me though that you'd probably do better getting some in the spring. I have little pieces to share here and there right now but in the spring I usually ditch a whole bunch of it while thinning it out and moving it around. With as big as my yard is, it really isn't cultivated enough to move much around and I don't want it in the big flower bed anymore so I pass it along in huge clumps to anyone who will take it.

Hi fleegle96 that`s an impressive graphic, I like that kind of stuff. Just hope that your growing season is long enough for all the great Dahlias. I only have Zingaro from your list, but new for me too. what is your main aim with those Dahlias: cut flowers, great display in the garden... (I assume that someone producing a detailed graph as you is not content with just: plant and see what happens) -spacing: depends, taller cultivars about 3 feet apart, dinner plate varieties can get very big, so those even wider. Sounds like you have plenty of space. They grow healthier if they get more space and good air circulation. -arranging: personally I try to combine cultivars that go well together, like warm yellow and oranges, pale pink with purple, white and pastels. definitely a matter of personal taste, but a point worth considering. height: tall in the back row (northern side...) so they don`t cover/shade shorter varieties. lay out of beds: for low maintenance straight rows for easy hoe access, path ways to move between them. for a fancy display the lines could be wavy or something. Staking/ support how many do you have altogether? professional growers often use some kind of net to support whole areas. Looks very technical. Otherwise sturdy stakes/poles, IME one or two per plant. I had some plants break because I used too flimsy bamboo canes, which snapped or bent at some point. With dinner plates it is advisable to stake each single flower head, they can snap in a rain or gust of wind. plants get bushier if you cut off the tip when they are about knee high, over the third or fourth set of leaves, get more and smaller flowers. (so, perhaps just try it on some plants) guess what, I ordered from a certain island as well, after discovering that they ship to overseas as well. and their shipping fee is just twice of that from a local nursery (very attractiv milage-cost-ratio IMO...) and if you can spare the time do make notes. so later you can fine-tune or edit your collection, cull the dull or whatever-ones. Andrea... As several others have mentioned... Welcome to the Club! I spent quite a bit of money on some more expensive varieties last fall, and told my DH that I wouldn't need to buy any more plants. I said that with the newer varieties, I would be perfectly happy just start to start crossing my own. And I held out... I didn't order any other fans, didn't even look when people here started talking about sales. Then I had to put a special grouping together for my Mother last week. I was looking for specific DL's, and found them on Maryott's, Ridaught's, and Browns Ferry Gardens. All were having incredible sales, so OF COURSE IT WOULDN'T HURT TO LOOK.............. Mind you, I have almost 1 1/2 acres that is fully landscaped (and I mean FULLY... can't squeeze any more plants into any of my beds without removing something.) I do have a large area of lawn, but it is off limits as we are eventually planning on building our house there. And now somehow over the last week I have around 40 new DL's coming........don't know quite how it happened, but it's a done deal at this point. I guess that the woods are going to have to be pushed out a little bit further on one side or the other! The good thing is that I am lucky enough to have a DH that is wonderful as well (not quite as good as yours as I have to build my own beds :), but he's still a keeper ), and he just smiles at me and shakes his head. He is definitely not a gardner, but he still enjoys sharing at least my seedling beds because I am so excited about them. I don't know what I would do if he wasn't so tolerant of my addiction! Actually, I guess I would just have to do what a member on the rose forum once posted.....sneak out in the middle of the night to plant. The discussion reminds me again how personal these choices are. I remember a wonderful phrase from a book (by Booth Tarkington, I think) which went something like this: a mild unpleasantness for one young man may seem the sheer brink of hell to another. That's applicable here as you can see from the posts above. For some of us, a self-cleaning oven is on the list of stove "must-haves." A stove won't even be considered without it. For others, like me, it was on my list of "wanna-haves" rather than "must-haves." (IOW, I miss having a self-cleaning oven but think I can live without it). Others, such as Nunya, are completely indifferent to self-cleaning; seemingly, he wouldn't use it if he had it. I say all of this because opinions here at GW can sometimes sound like dogma -- because I think X, you should, too, and your contrary thoughts are mere subjective preferences. It has to be said that subjective preferences are important. They are none-the-less valuable for being subjective. Your own preference absolutely must be part of the process of choosing a stove. Just because I find manual oven cleaning is "not too bad" does not mean you should find it that way, too. So, hopefully, the range of opinions is taken as helping you sort out our preferences rather than as telling you what to so. There is only way to get better informed than this exchange of opinions and that is by actually cleaning an oven in a stove you are considering. But, even if you live someplace where dealer showrooms have operating stoves you can test out, do you think they'll be demonstrating that aspect anytime soon? ;>) When I bought my NXR, I really had no idea how easy or how onerous "myself-cleaning" would be. That's one of the reasons I bought it from Costco. If "myself-cleaning" turned out to a royal PITA, I could simply return the stove for a full refund and get the self-cleaning induction range that I otherwise would have purchased. So, when you go shopping, it may be helpful to be up-front with the vendors about your uncertainty on this issue and to have a back-up candidate.

I know exactly the ones you mean! They are so good! Do any of your nearby restaurants have them at the cash register? You could go camp out there... :-)

Pastel colored dinner mints -- $2.58 per pound, and it's a 10-pound pack ($25.80), plus shipping. They also have the butter mints, and lots of other stuff. This is the same place that Gayle provided the link for -- but here's the link to the Pastel Dinner Mints...

Butter Mint Recipe
1/2 cup butter, at room temperature
3 3/4 cups powdered sugar
1 tablespoon whipping cream
1/8 teaspoon peppermint extract
red food coloring
Preparation:
In a mixing bowl, cream butter well; blend in powdered sugar gradually, mixing until smooth. Add whipping cream, peppermint extract, and food coloring; blend well. Spoon batter into a cake decorator tube and using a shaped tip, press shapes onto waxed paper. Let mints set up for 30 minutes. Store in an airtight container in a cool place.
Makes 3 to 4 dozen mints.

Maryann...I have something even BETTER to eat and will help you gain a bit too! The good old "Wedding Mints"!

4 oz. cream cheese
3 c. powdered/icing sugar
1/4 tsp. mint extract
food color of choice

You mix this all together, (it takes muscles by the end) if you have mint molds it is more fun, but we have even just made them into about walnut size balls, place on waxed paper lined cookie sheet, flatten a bit with a fork. Chill for a while...if you wanna, they taste pretty good right away too!! AND, you can put them all in the freezer and eat them from there or take a few out at a time. They are soooooooo good!!!

Caryn and I just made a bunch of these last week for a baby shower this last weekend. I made sure that we did not bring ANY back to the house! I could be sooooo bad with those!!! lol

I know the ones you are talking about because I was looking for those for a mother daughter banquet at our church this past Spring and couldn't find them anywhere we looked and looked. My sister finally found some small bags at a dollar store but they weren't very good.

I've been buying them for the past few weeks, but suddenly I can't find any. I just went to the two other convenience stores here in town and neither of them had any either. I'm going to a different WalMart tomorrow and hopefully they will have some.

I got hooked on those mints for a while, then I switched to the Kentucky Mints, remember them? They had a green gel inside them, you could see it, yum! Hope you find them soon, MaryAnn and I'm so glad to hear that you're putting some weight back on, yay for you!

I get Richardson butter mints at the grocery store - they have them in the candy isle - I love those!

Those multi-colored little dinner mints. Yes, I like them. Y'know I was thinking about getting some of them just recently but somehow forgot when I was at the store. They were popular for things like weddings. Put them in a little paper cup mixed with peanuts or cashews. The sweet and salty taste is great.

If you can't find any, let me know. I'll send you some.
