I guess I'll use my 70's dress for halloween

I was supposed to leave for Canada today, where I would be using my new 70's costume. We had a change of plans and did not go due to some pregnancy issues. I have been having some spotting for the past week, and although they assured me the baby is fine and that the bleeding is most likely from the twin that we lost, I wasn't comfortable going to an island in Canada that had not even a grocery store, much less a medical facility. It would have been an ordeal to get me off the island, particularly at night, if something would've happened.

So we decided not to go. I am sad we missed out on a nice trip but the health of myself and baby are more important. I have airline tickets from Air Canada that I have to use by April and I'm not really sure when or where I'll use them but that's really the least of my worries and if that's all I'm out for the sake of being careful, I'm happy!

So, I guess Brent and I will need to dress up for halloween this year because my mom spent time on a great dress. But I'll make sure we dress up in our costumes soon so you can at least see what we should've looked like! :-)

I'm sorry you missed out on your trip. I wouldn't feel comfortable going somewhere with no medical facility either. I spotted with my DD and it really stressed me out. They told me it was very common.

Yep, I remember that one Marlene, I think it is actually on one of those google links if you look far enough pages back. I remember when she posted she said she just threw it together out of an old fence (or some such words) and it was SO beautiful, lol, I couldn't have "threw it together" in a hundred years if I tried.

Tibs, you brought to mind an aunt removed a few generations from me. She was the sister to my g'g' grandfather. She married a prominent man in town who was a gentleman from an upper-class New England family and was an owner of a piano manufactury. They lived the 'good life' I guess until he went off to the Civil War, was wounded and discharged, came home and dropped dead days later. She was as much as disowned by his brother's family and went into business as a professional fortune teller to eke out a living. Her children were given over into guardianship about that time. One of them was a poor little fellow who had the misfortune to be born in that era when any child who was 'different' lead a miserable life. From what I can tell from the records, I suspect he was a Down's. She was evidently drop-dead beautiful and as flamboyant as they came, and changed her name slightly on every document she signed. Lied about her nationality. And, she eventually snagged a very wealthy widower old enough to be her gramps, who built about every lovely old building in town. Then I track her down to a different address in a ritzy end of town and she claims to be a widow. Only I find the eldery ex husband living with his first wife's kids. I guess what made me think of this is I found the gentlemen's biographies in several history books, and she and the children she had with him are conveniently left out, as if they never existed. I sometimes think some of the geneology mavens around here wish I had never come back to town and started resurrecting skeletons. I found her grave after much looking, and not only was her stone removed, the city paved a lane directly over it.

I make Ina's orzo salad with roasted veggies. This one will be nice, as I don't need to turn the oven on. Mediterranean Orzo Salad Source : Canadian Living Magazine: June 2012 2 cups orzo pasta 1/4 cup lemon juice 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil 1 tsp liquid honey 1/2 tsp salt1/2 tsp pepper 1 pinch dried oregano 1 sweet red pepper, diced 1 cup diced cored English cucumber 3/4 cup crumbled cow's milk feta cheese 1/3 cup chopped pitted Kalamata olives 1/3 cup chopped drained oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley 1/4 cup diced red onion In large pot of boiling lightly salted water, cook pasta according to package directions until al dente, about 7 minutes. Drain and rinse under cold water; drain again. In large bowl, combine lemon juice, oil, honey, salt, pepper and oregano. Add pasta, red pepper, cucumber, feta cheese, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, parsley and onion; stir to combine. (Make-ahead: Cover and refrigerate for up to 24 hours.)

I have a muumuu that I got on my sole trip to Hawaii and I just put that on and then I sort of look like I'm dressed -- not! Don't know what I'll do when it wears out. Besides, who made the rule that says we have to get dressed every darn day?

DD missed out on her best friend's destination wedding because of being too pregnant. Women do sacrifice for their kids, and it is certainly worth it, isn't it?

You made a very wise decision Steph. You just can't be too careful and with no medical facilities easily available, that would cause pause I'm sure. Can't wait to see your picture when you get all dolled up in the costumes.

Better safe than sorry. There will be other trips and you will enjoy them more with the little one. I spotted too but went for the whole time, even past 2 weeks. Hope everything turns out fine.

Nothing is more important than your health and the health of the baby, Steph, so you for sure made the right decision. I'm sorry you're disappointed about the trip, but there's a lot more trips in your future, kiddo!

I can't wait to see you two all dressed up, though! What a hoot.
