I'm in Calif and havn't seen the news,so what happened and what part of Calif.I know i could turn on the news~~~~~~~~~BUT.

I saw it on the news this morning. Crazy! My cousin's best friend is a police officer in Chino but not at the prison. They were really busy last night.

More than 250 inmates were injured in a riot that erupted overnight at the California Institution for Men in Chino, a spokesman said Sunday.

55 inmates were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries.

Hey Barb, do you remember when the inmates rioted at White Hill, near Camp Hill, in 1989 or 1990?

They did a tremendous amount of damage, destroyed a lot of inmate housing and possessions.

The Casey administration floated a plan that would have had Pennsylvania tax payers picking up the tab for all of the destroyed possessions.

I think after a rather impressive outcry that that plan was dropped and the prisoners were up the creek.

You're right, you don't sound very compassionate.

Thanks, Neesie, for posting exactly what I was thinking. I seem to recall lots of Sunday-school lessons about such subjects as being my brother's keeper, the prodigal son, the thieves and prostitutes that were treated with dignity and even defended, the good Samaritan, etc.

That's why I said that about my attitude, Neesie. I KNOW what Jesus would do - I have many failings in my life as I strive to walk the walk. Please disregard my post.

If it's replacing TVs or computers or exercise equipment, I would have to agree that I'd be pretty irritated that my tax dollars are going to replace non-essentials.

But medical care? Sorry, I can't agree on that. That falls into the "essential" category to me.

I think this belongs in "Hot Topics".

The medical care needed now is for injuries sustained by the inmates when they rioted. They get medical care. This post is about this instance.

And I don't think this belongs in Hot Topics. Just because people have differing opinions doesn't mean the posts shouldn't be here.

I read that many were stabbed, cut with broken glass and hit with batons. The prison has to get them medical care, like it or not.

It's a medium security prison, so I'm guessing these are not murderers.

We can't afford extra tax dollars in this state, that's for sure.

You put Mexican and Black inmates together in an over-crowded prison situation and race riots will happen. Those are facts. Wishful thinking won't change that. Political correctness won't change that. It is what it is.

Crips,Bloods, Nortenos and Surenos. Why anyone would think they would get along better in the system than out on the street is beyond me. "Well I'm sure these offenders who detest each other will get along just fine once we have them behind bars." What were they thinking??!!!

No, I don't think this subject belongs on hot topics, nor do I think a person should be accused of being ignorant just because my opinion is different than yours. Yes, Jesus would have a different reaction to this than mine, but being I'm just an average human, who has seen so much in my 73 yrs, I'm sorry but my sympathies are for the victims of these convict's crime. They didn't have a choice in the matter, these criminals made the CHOICE of doing wrong. They are being housed, clothed and fed, along with medical care...all at taxpayers dime. They may not be where thy want to be, but they put themselves there. No sympathies here. JMO Dottie

Who best knows the inherent problems of housing Latino and Black gangs -- the people who actually deal with them on a daily basis or 9 lawyers living in their ivory towers shuttled to and from work by chauffered driven limos?

The Federal government should be responsible for reimbursing California for the $1,000,000 + dollars this riot will end up costing California taxpayers.
"Most of the housing units are currently uninhabitable, including one housing dormitory that was completely destroyed by fire" according to latest update.

Dozens of employees of other law enforcement agencies responded to help staff at the Chino West Receiving Center which houses medium security prisoners. This prison does house maximum security prisoners in separate facilities on the same large piece of land.
