My sympathy (for wanting a laptop). I could never compute in a bed, and hate laptops.

Our family and my company have been Lenovo Thinkpad (and IBM Thinkpad, its predecessor) users for 15 years anyway. Have a couple of Lenovo laptops and desktops in current use. We've had nothing but excellent experiences.

I think Lenovo has some laptop lines that aren't progeny of the ThinkPad family and I think the quality of those isn't at the same level. I could be wrong.

The box says B50-30 Touch, 4 G. I'm still on the old small Gateway netbook. I hope I got a good one. As long as I've been using computers I still don't know what G's and Rams and all that mean. I always says gigs and migs and the techs/sales people know what I mean. Well, I'm old... LOL.

I bought a Lenovo desktop in March and I really like it. ( I went by all the favorable reviews from different sites.) It didn't come with a lot of bloatware, was easy to set up and it's fast and easy to use. It does have windows 8, but I don't use most of the apps, so I don't see much difference from XP.

The manuals aren't half bad and they are very nice and helpful if you have to call them. Needed help one night with a long running system restore.

I've been using a laptop exclusively for over a year now, after using a desktop for many years. I don't understand what all the negativity about laptops is all about. I love my laptop, took me no time at all to get used to it. The only thing I didn't care for is the touchpad. That was easily fixed by getting a wireless mouse. Now everything is A OK. Less hardware all over the room and less wires. Disconnect the power cord, and you're good to go anywhere. What's not to like. IMHO of course.

I noticed you mentioned putting the laptop on your belly in bed, remember that laptops must have air flow under them where they vent. It is recommended that you use a laptop table or lapdesk some have fans built in, ventilation pads. Overheating is a killer.
Lenovo is a good brand.

My last laptop was a Lenovo Thinkpad and then when XP wasn't going to be supported I bought a Lenovo Flex at Costco.

I was going to mention what Raven said. I've used a laptop all along.........I've never,ever, used a desktop.

I always, always keep mine on a cooling fan and on a hard surface. If I use it on my lap, I put it on a plastic cutting board. Anything soft WILL plug the vents and it will overheat.

I was looking at Lenovo, and that is going to be my next one when I'm due.

Thank you all so much. I didn't even know about air flow and fans ! I wonder if heat is why mine has the red and blue stripes on the screen and the task bar has turned pink? I'll be sure to get a fan or screen thingy now ! I'm thrilled to know that I bought a good brand. I'm still on the old one but will set it all up when I can get time to myself and concentrate. I'll bet you all know how that is... LOL !

I'm using my Belkin laptop fan right now.

The nice thing is, that the fan runs on the laptop battery....great for using outdoors. It plugs into a port on the laptop (the one that a corded mouse uses).

My fan is a couple of years old.

I'm not a laptop person, but my daughter has several and one of them is a Lenovo. She works in IT, so I figure that's a good recommendation.

My fan "cooling pad" came from amazon...less than $20

I've had nothing but laptops because I really don't have a convenient place to put a desk top. Presently have a MacBook Air. I've allays used it on my lap (because I didn't know any better until today) and never had problems with it overheating.

They have definitely been known to start fires. The batteries on some brands have had fire problems in the past.
I have a really nice little lap table I got a bed bath and beyond. There are foldable legs so it can sit on either side of you. The center part lifts to different angles to hold the laptop at different angles. It has a mouse pad area. It also has an adjustable light on it. It is exactly like the one in the link below. There's storage space under the mouse pad.

This is one of the big reasons I love my tablets they don't have any of these issues and don't get hot at all. No vents anywhere. I rarely use my laptops now except on a desk.
