I love this kind of supermarket gardening! Others I have tried with success--as long as your local grocery story supplies the produce: mango (easy) sugar cane (even easier) dates (pits need bottom heat to hasten germination) loquat "Eriobotra japonica"(fruit can be found around June in more gourmet/specialty produce markets--at least here) Guava (mine has flowered and fruited in a container) Ginger (easy) Taro and related tropical tubers ("Elephant ears"; easy) coconut (you need an unhusked, fresh coconut, sandy soil, heat and patience--can take up to 6 months just to germinate) And many others.. You need to decide what you can afford to have replaces at your expense, and the most important...which of the things is the one you hate the most and cannot live with! Is the bathroom counter top muddy green because of lighting or lack of natural light or was the wrong color ordered? Ask to see the builders invoice. The kitchen cabinets are really big and will be the hardest to fix once you are in and living in the house. This is one that would be hard to let go, maybe you and the cabinet guy can work out a plan. You need to reread the contract or spec sheet, if it does say bull nose and curved corners and not OR, or say choose between the 2, then again, you may want to hold their feet to the fire. I would recommend being very carful in your approach and make sure you have the facts and don't assume anything, because in the end the builder will win, but with a delicate approach and playing the "we" card may get you everything you want!!! I spent 12 years at the telephone company. I worked directory assistance,and then long distance, I also helped with keeping the directory up -to-date and with keeping track of the hours everyone worked. I stayed home for a couple of years and when DD started school. I was bored and started working at the University of Georgia part time. Eventually, had part-time hours and full time work so I went to full time. I worked for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education. We provided cont. Ed. seminars for attorneys. I was an Event Planner officially but didn't plan the events. (go figure). I got the programs after they were over. I was the person that everyone went to when they needed something done yesterday. I retired May 1, 2010 but did go back to work in Feb. & March to help out during their busy time. It was nice. I was just part-time again and just had to go do my job and go home. No responsibility! The first two KTer's I met were Pat Lavender and FranCes....and my sister embarrassed me. She insisted on going with me in case one of them was an axe murderer. But now I know Wildchild is really the axe murderer. The only reason I have survived our visits is because I take her to Jocko's for steak. I remember going to a get together at Joni's in Ventura long ago and then a couple of them in Bakersfield I have pictures from a Tehachapi trip. I got rescued by Flamingo from a shopping mall in Branson...I think it was Branson. It is really great meeting KTers and hope anyone who travels on the central coast of California will contact me.
