I think there is room for both I like Tupperware, or Rubbermaid. Not crazy about the cheaper stuff. I do have good luck with some that are made in Canada. I don't reuse plastic that has had commercial food, like yogurt etc.
If I put plastic in the microwave, I try to use what is recommended.

Storage either is fine with me. But to re heat, or heat at all, I dump in to my corning ware. I don't like the idea of heating in plastic!

I do not heat in plastic containers. Plastic will last for years, and glass won't. I also like the more air tight lids of good plastic.

I use glass as much as possible, sometimes recycled jars (labels off, jasdip). I do have plastic and put cold foods in it. Any new plastic purchased has to be BPA-free.

I use glass too, and I would not say glass is more likely to break. I also don't agree that plastic will last for years and glass won't. I don't understand those comments, but maybe they're meant in a way that I am reading.

I have glass storage containers with very tight lids. The containers are safe for use in freezer, oven, microwave, and dishwasher. I'm pretty sure that they are an Anchor Hocking product and I'd get another set if I needed to. I've had them for over ten years and haven't lost one yet.

I do buy plastic containers at the grocery when I fix a big meal for company in order to send leftovers home with people.

I replaced all of my plastic storage containers with glass. I'm so much happier as I have exactly the number and type I need, the locking lids stay with them and I don't have to worry about them absorbing odors or getting stained.

Like Rhizo, the only time I use plastic is during the holidays when I send leftovers home with people. I buy some specifically for that when I do my grocery shopping for those meals.

Lest you think I am throwing away plastic containers that could be reused, I'm not. About the only things I buy that come in a plastic container are margarine for my parents' visits which amounts to one tub per year and mascarpone cheese which amounts to probably two tubs per year as I split it into fourths and freeze it in glass containers. I love the small baby food glass containers for recipe-portioned sizes of things like mascarpone, citrus zest, grated garlic and pesto.

Well, I still use the Tupperware I bought 40 years ago, for example. If I drop a glass item, when it hits the stone floor, it shatters. Not so the "plastic."

I have switched to glass. I bought some Ziploc glass containers at Kroger's and I love them. I still have my plastic ones, but I don't use them. I see no reason why glass wouldn't last forever. And they do clean up a lot better than the plastic.

Fun mentioned two of the reasons why I switched to glass so many years ago....plastic absorbs odors and tomato products stain it.

I have several Mason jars, too, that I use to make and store my homemade dressings and marinades.

I had no idea Ziploc made glass storage containers. I checked them out online. They look pretty nifty.

I will use plastic for cold things that I won't have to heat - salads, yogurt, fruit, etc. I always use glass for anything that I'll heat in the microwave.

I have always owned corning ware, and got lucky and found some at goodwill a while back. It's my favorite for reheating.

Plastic is light weight, glass is see through. Both have their place... :)

I use margarine, sour cream and yogurt containers in the frig for leftovers, never use plastic for re-heating.. I also use glass bowls with a plastic lid.

In the cupboard I re-use spaghetti jars (Classico) for my dry goods, oatmeal, rice, etc. So glass for storage.

In the freezer, sauces, chili etc is in yogurt, margarine containers, labelled. I'm paranoid about glass breaking in the freezer.

I use both plastic and glass. I recently bought a bunch of the Premier storage containers by Rubbermaid, see the link. These are great, the plastic is hard and very clear so it's easy to see what's inside. The lids snap onto the bottom so when you store them empty, the lids are right there. I use the biggest one for a compost container on the counter, near the sink. The tight fitting lid keeps me from having any fruit fly problems. And the lids are flexible, that seems to make using them easier.

I still have all my other assorted containers, too, but I ought to donate half of them to the thrift shop as I don't use but a few at a time.

I also buy those shower cap type covers whenever I see them, we use those a lot to just save leftovers in the serving bowl.

Glass. Many of my storage containers are very old jars....infact, I have several old barrel shaped jars and started collecting them when I inherited my mother's old barrel shaped flour jar. It is very frosted on the bottom from all those years of being slid across the shelf. (However, I keep my flour in the freezer.)

I use Rubbermaid plastic containers for fridge and freezer, but I won't heat anything in plastic. I use glass or Corningware for that. Last year I ran short of my Rubbermaids when I was freezing beans. When looking at other brands, I rejected anything made in China.

I use mostly glass containers with the locking lids. I won't put plastic in the microwave, so by using glass I can just reheat in that (with the lid removed and a piece of plastic wrap covering the container). I do have some large Tupperware I use for cold salads and other things that won't be heated.

I try to avoid heating in plastic containers, but use yogurt, margarine or ice cream containers to store runny things in fridge or freezer. Keep cookies in (nearly gallon) ice cream containers.

Oatmeal, shell pasta in plastic bottles, e.g. powdered coffee jars, or 2 lb. ground coffee plastic or cardboard containers, metal top and bottom, plastic snap-on cover. Coffee from those 2-lb. containers into glass 500 gram jam jars, packed down hard to eliminate as much air as possible, sometimes peanut butter jars, plastic.

Yeast from 1 lb. brick into 500 gram jam jars, share with son, turn about avoids over-aging.

Water, reconstituted frozen orange & other juices, sugar, some other things in aging quart glass juice jars saved from back when it came in glass.

I use both,but i like glass for the microwave.I have the loc n loc for my flour,sugar etc and like those as they are very airtight,and not as heavy as glass for storing those sorts of things

I keep those throwaway kind on hand to send leftovers home with folks,that way i don't have to worry about getting my dishes/bowls back.
