update on Aly

all of you have got to be the most wonderful people I have ever known. Aly's whole family wants to thank you for the prayers and warm thoughts you sent heavenward for her. Jesus heard those prayers as he always does and decided to let us keep her. Her surgeon wanted to keep her asleep until Saturday but Aly woke up around noon today. While the nurse was getting the medicine ready to put her back to sleep, she started to talk to her and asked if she was going into 6th grade this year. Aly still has a tube in her throat but she mouthed no, 7th. The nurse asked her a few other questions and got the right answers. Then she must have had a spot on her face that was itching and she tried to get her hand up to scratch it, when she realized it was tied to the bed she got angry. Then she drifted off to sleep again. They are going to let her sleep until tomorrow afternoon, then they will wake her up again. They have a nurse with her 24/7. Angie stayed with her this afternoon while John came back to York and got the other 2 girls, Lacy 17 and Tori 15 and took them up to Hershey. They will all be with her when they wake her up. Excellent news Vique - I am continuing to send prayers for a full recovery with no hiccups. Gosh what a fright all of this has been.

This seems to be a popular thread, so I thought I would put in my 2 cents worth. I finally have been able to harvest and try the great Petit Gris de Rennes that I've heard so much about. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed. We've had so much cool, rainy weather this year that they just aren't sweet. Other than the lack of sweetness, they did have a unique flavor that I think could be quite good in different weather conditions. I could say much the same about my Charentais and my Blacktail Mtn. Watermelons. Just not sweet. So far the Butterscotch Melons have been the sweetest. They have been my best melons this year and the most productive by far. I think the smaller fruited varieites are less affected by excess rainfall. It seems to be true with my tomatoes. Today I pulled my first Piel de Sapo (frogskin) melon. It was slipping from the vine, which I didn't think they were supposed to do, but the vine seemed to be dying. They can be extremely sweet, but I'm afraid with this year's weather these will also prove disappointing. I'm almost afraid to cut into it. I have one more that is still maturing and an Amarillo Oro, that is very small but seems to be turning yellow.

Wonderful news!! There is great power in prayer, and when the KT family gets together to pray, it has added power.

Thanks for letting us know--I have had her on my mind, and couldn't imagine how her family would deal with waiting until Saturday to make sure she was OK. It's great that Aly's family will be there when she wakes up. I will continue to pray for her rapid recovery.

Excellent news! The first few days, children having heart surgery are kept pretty heavily sedated. That way they don't remember the pain and it gives their bodies a chance to heal. Three cheers for Aly and her family.

I've been away all day & couldn't wait to check if there was anything new on Aly. The terrific news about lil' Rowdy was ahead of this one & read it first. Now THIS!!! With my heart almost laughing out loud, I'm sending up 'Thank You' prayers plus lotsa' hugs your way for you, Aly & the family.

I was gone all day and just came in to check on Aly.
I don't cry very easliy, but I a overflowing with joy!
God is so wonderful.
Still praying for quick recovery from this surgery and the hard part will be keeping Aly from over-doing it for a while.
