Great little drive, car is now past 100 miles, and I had great farmers market food.

Well, my favorite when I go down to the cafeteria close to the farmers market.

Had their fried veal cutlet and 7 layer salad.

AND what is on your dining menu, today?

Leftover roast beef hash I pulled out of the freezer, biscuits and some kind of fruit. Now I'm hungry for 7-layer salad :-)

Went to a friend's family orchard yesterday and bought a ton of peaches. Most will get prepped and go directly in the freezer but I'm guessing the first pie will serve as supper tonight. LOL.

I think chicken and noodles may be a dish the farmers started as they would at times have lots of eggs. To me dumplings are not like noodles at all. Noodles have a lot of eggs. Dumplings maybe only one. Our dumplings were always the flat wide ones, no baking powder. The dumplings with baking powder are just like steamed biscuits, which by the way are really good on top of green beans seasoned with bacon or ham and onions. I have lived in Indiana all my life and on a farm growing up. My Grandma and my Mother always made noodles and I do too. There actually is no "gravy" it is just the broth that is thickened with the noodles. Our church has a meal once a month and that is always the main item served at the beginning of the food line and it is always gone and of course the mashed potatoes are right there next to it, can't have one with out the other. Making your chicken broth with bone in chicken gives a better flavor. No other seasonings are used, just salt and pepper. When my Mother was able to make noodles, she would give all the gals in our family a bag of homemade noodles for Christmas and for our birthdays. They were always welcome! It is a lot of work to make a lot of noodles and to roll them by hand.

No, B.Smith's is not so good. Great spot, and you did have a beautiful day, but more a tourist attraction. Tate's Farm (Kathleen's dad) where K started selling her cookies as a kid is in walking distance from me. Last year there was an article about him in the local paper. He has chickens and turkeys, and this was about getting your fresh killed turkey. Someone wrote a letter calling him a murderer!! He is a very kind and generous man, and that letter raised a lot of outrage!!! I don't shop at Tate's, formerly Kathleen's, VERY pricey and overly sugared for my taste. Sag Harbor is lovely, where did your dh live? Have you ever tried to find a recipe close to her Polish Tea Cookies? I bet someone on here has a good one. There's really nothing she makes that you couldn't. You are paying for her high rent.

Our school lunches are $2.65. The lunches here seem decent. They offer 3 main meals each day. Everyday there is also a choice of Yogurt, Hummus or PB&J sandwich. With the above you get a choice of fruit, veggie or starch. There is also a salad bar option. I have checked the lunch menus all year and was THRILLED to see NO FRENCH FRIES EVER. I think that's great! Although there is pizza every Friday, but the portions are small and kid appropiate. We also have a credit system, where I place money on her account. Kids don't handle money at all if they don't want to. I can also get an itemized list of what she has bought. My DD brings her lunch 95% of the time. Once a month they serve "Breakfast for Lunch" (Pancakes, turkey sausage & milk) which she absolutely loves. But I am very happy to pack her lunch since I know it's healthy and foods she enjoys and will eat. Normal day she gets turkey, carrot sticks, fruit (like apple slices, grapes) and popcorn. Kids are not allowed to "trade" or bring Candy for the snack, but I'm sure it goes on. My DD is picky, so she would not eat a school lunch each day-heaven forbid the sauce touch the pasta!! LOL My issue is that kids may take the veggie or fruit option but not eat it. Or just choose the starches and ala carte "junkier" items. I think our school system does the best they can with foods most kids like (Baked chicken tenders instead of fried) Most of the breads are Whole grains each day etc. Nice selection of fresh fruits. When I was in school the lunches were so/so. I knew my mom's fresh food was better then the mass produced, waiting under a heat lamp school lunch. I normally brought my lunch as it was MUCH quicker too. But you could have spent your "lunch" money on a meal of Twinkies and chips! Frozen peaches are on the itinerary for this afternoon, if I get the energy up. We had Frozen pizza for the hubby and me and the kids had hot dogs and mac and cheese.

I had a peach for breakfast with my brownie. Peaches are .99cents a lb here. For lunch chili dogs.

We went to the Farmers' Market yesterday. We are having fresh green beans, a sauteed pattypan squash (neither of us has had it before, I had to ask the lady what to do with it) with onions, and a broiled burger patty. I'm hoping it's good, I'm really hungry!

Heather I am not sure if Glenda had the same 7 Layer salad but here it is lettuce,thawed frozen peas, celery,miracle whip and sugar topping over all with shredded cheese and bacon bits on top of that.

We had BBQ'd ribs
Corn on the cob
Cheesey hashbrowns
watermelon

Still have some of Hunter's ice cream cake birthday cake left from the party. I hope they eat it up, I am not a big ice cream eater and DH certainly doesn't need it.

7 layer I had was lettuce, green peas, chopped red onions, bacon bits, sliced radishes,chopped tomatoes, cheese and ranch dressing on the side

DH's birthday today, but he was busy putting in a hardwood floor in the kitchen for me. Was going to grill him a big steak with his favorite potatoes, but he did not want to stop. Instead, I ran out for take-out Chinese. Tomorrow night will be his romantic dinner...Happy Birthday and Thank You! ;0)

I found a recipe if anyone is interested

7 layer salad

1 pound bacon
1 large head iceberg lettuce - rinsed, dried, and chopped
1 red onion, chopped
1 (10 ounce) package frozen green peas, thawed
10 ounces shredded Cheddar cheese
1 cup chopped cauliflower
1 1/4 cups mayonnaise
2 tablespoons white sugar
2/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Directions
1.Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Crumble and set aside.
2.In a large flat bowl, place the chopped lettuce and top with a layer of onion, peas, shredded cheese, cauliflower and bacon.
3.Prepare the dressing by whisking together the mayonnaise, sugar and Parmesan cheese. Drizzle over salad and refrigerate until chilled.
