I was going to say double standard and then changed my mind. My sister-in-law and I were talking about how men exploit womem. I don't feel we are exploited by men, women exploit themselves. If women didn't pose nude for pictures like the ones they have in playboy and all the other trashy magazines on the market, they wouldn't exist. I don't know why the girls on the team from U.S.A. are wearing those outfits but I do know it is their fault, they could have said no to whoever suggested it. vique

Hmmmmmm,sex sells??? LOL
DDIL turned it on yesterday and the beach volleyball was on.She said exactly the same thing,"Wow,why do they not have any clothes on?"LOL I don't get it.Looks like shorts and tank tops would be much more comfortable but maybe they prefer to be nude and that's as close as they can get on TV!LOL

But, that is the Uniform for Beach Vollyball. Haven't you watched the Sports Channels? LOL!

I missed the Ladies VB, but I did see the Men's. Boy, are they brutal. I'd be scared of the ball with the force behind it.

I was going to ask the same question! I'm surprised the bikinis don't slip. There's so little of them. They must be specially made. I'm also a little surprised the women don't object. You'd think they'd be more comfortable in shorts and tanks.

The women have the option to wear a one-piece suit if they choose to. I have no problem whatsoever with women playing BEACH volleyball in bikinis, which are beach wear. I can't imagine wearing too much clothing in that heat, humidity and with all the sand, you'd be very uncomfortable with sand under your clothes, the less clothing, the less abrasion, I would think.

The men seem to be wearing what guys usually wear at the beach, jam-type shorts and baggy shirts. It all seems very reasonable to me. And they are used to being looked at, heck- they're just doing what they always do.

If I had bodies like them, I'd wear a bikini too!

absolutely no one wants to see men in those things LOL! i don't care what they look like or how well endowed... YUCK YUCK YUCK! the 2 piece is the "uniform" of beach volleyball, very few wear a one piece. and hey if you got that kinda body show off your hard work! i did see some of the matches and thought i could get my dh to watch too but he's not into sports at all (i am lol) and isn't into such muscular women (surprisingly lol) ~ liz

yea, WHY aren't the guys wearing little suits like the women? Like Vique said they choice to wear it, it's their own fault they like almost nothing to wear in front of millions of viewers. Kinda slutty imo. If they wear them for better play then WHY aren't the guys doing the same? Double standard. Women who think that's the only way to get noticed, not for the game play, obviously.

This has been one of my pet peeves and I'm surprised they let them play in those skimpy things over there with so many foreign countries participationg. I thin it is disgusting and why aren't the guys waring speedos anyway. UGH!!

The bikini or the one piece are the designated, required "uniforms" for the Olympics, they have rules they must adhere to. The Olympic rules state the men must be in shorts that are at least 10 centimeters above the knees and in sleeveless tank tops. (I think the shirts should be optional, it's HOT there.) As for Speedos- have you been to the beach lately? The only people that wear them any more are Europeans and it's not a pretty sight, on anybody. The male anatomy just doesn't lend itself as well to a skimpy suit as the female body does.

And if it doesn't bother the athletes, why should it bother us? I think they have great bodies and like Magic, I'd be perfectly comfortable in a bikini if I looked like them.

Kerri Walsh said to RTE Sports "I feel IÂm empowered. IÂm a sportswoman, IÂm getting stronger all the time and this is my uniform." She went on to say, "I donÂt feel exploited at all. Hopefully weÂre just encouraging people to be fit and healthy. Our lifestyle is so wonderful."

Well stated Flamey, in both your posts.

As I asked, why aren't the men sporting speedos? What is good for the goose, is good for the gander, right?

If the men are comfortable in that much garb, then the women should also be comfortable. It just seems to me that the women are all too willing to be exploited. Many women are still cleaving to the notion that pleasing a man is what a woman should do. And don't tell me that exposing all that unnecesary flesh is for the good of the game, but not about pleasing men. Yes these women have beautiful bodies and I would likely show at least a little more of mine if it even came close to some of theirs. I just simply think a more modest one or even two piece suit would look just as good. I really don't need to see the cheeks of their butts at every turn. But I might enjoy seeing a little more male flesh. LOL

I don't think that those bikinis are skimpy at all. The girls are in awesome shape...also I think that their comfort is important. I really don't see anything inappropriate about them. I'm much more put off by things that I see people wearing at the mall, downtown or at the beach.....got their "stuff" hanging out all over the place! These are athletes wearing athletic clothing.

You understand my point Gazania. The RULES came about most obviously because it's what sells. A little porn, bothers some not others. The guys won't go there, I've noticed. I don't agree that tight pants don't look good on athletic bodies. The swimmers have been doing it for years BUT it does help their game. There is a reason for them to be wearing tight suits. Does anyone know why a women would have problems in the same outfit as the men volleyball players? I don't.

I don't think there is any porn in the women's outfits. Even in gymnastics you see a little of the butt cheeks but these are athletic bodies.
