Update on my spots....

Sorry for the delay, my MD appointment was at 1:00 and I had class at 2:00.

Of course the spots were almost completely gone by the time of my appointment! I am down to pinkish splotches against my yellowish freckled skin.

MD thinks is is hives but he is also testing me for a wheat allergy. I am supposed to up my zyertec and add Benedryl- also keep a food log- if it flares up again.

I thought it looked like hives. Had you eaten anything different, changed laundry detergents, or put your arms in any plants clipping or working (or was that your leg?)? Sometimes these things happen and you never really do figure them out.

Thanks for your responses. I've taken a closer look at my spot. I don't see any red thready looking stuff. In fact, up close it doesn't really look red at all, but just dead. I'm not sure what to make of that. Here's a picture that's even closer up, maybe that helps. The affected areas just look dead, not spotty or anything. The green grass looks, well, green. Things look redder in the picture than they do in person. How can I really tell if my baking soda treatment worked? I have fungicide in my shed that is tempting, but it would feel like a betrayal using a chemical, especially after all the touting of my organic methods... What if I just cut out that part of my lawn super short (like with grass shears) and removed the affect part. Would that work?

SO glad it's at least somewhat helpful. Seriously, I wouldn't know about even HALF of the things I've put into my kitchens over the years if it weren't for the real-life experiences of actual cooks who do their kitchens and share here. The faucet was chrome, so maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but we had several other chrome elements, so it worked for us, and at 40% off what I was expecting to pay, I was IN. Karbon for $769 This faucet is seriously amazing. Count me in the fan club!! A total aside, but the AutoTap was another purchase that has revolutionized how we cook. I remember reading about the TapMaster years ago, and I found the AutoTap for FAR less, and I'm in love. My ONLY beef with the KK faucet was that you had to turn the water off in order to revert back to a steady stream. The AutoTap makes it as easy as a tap of the toe. Love this thing. Andrew, If that were my plant I would remove the leaf. From past experiences with orchids it's best to get rid of the leaf. What you have is usually a bacteria or fungal problem. Spraying the plant with a bactericide, fungicide will help to prevent it from spreading. Good luck, Joe

Socks, I was sitting in the recliner minding my own business when they came up! LOL

I have had "just the rash" off and on for about 3 weeks but the swollen itchy whelps was new Sunday. That was my arm- my legs are even fatter, lol.

MD said it may also be related to my anemia or just my life-long allergies. Who knows. I did think it was interesting when he mentioned yellow food dye being a common culprit because someone here mentioned yellow being a problem for her DH (I think it was a DH).

I had a food allergy suddenly appear in my 30s. Now I can't have any "molds in foods", which includes vinegar products, cheeses, leftovers over 24 hours plus much more including ALCOHOL!!!

I recently had food allergy testing done cause I started having outbreaks of sores in my mouth, which are definitely aggravated by certain foods, but which are not causing the sores.

However, I found out that on a scale of 0-5, I am allergic to shellfish, oatmeal, and strawberries, I reacted to all at stage 3. Then others at 2 - almonds, cauliflower, mushrooms, nutmeg and celery - Who can be allergic to celery? Anyway, I recently read that some people who are allergic to molds and mildew react to mushrooms and other foods like celery. I am also allergic to molds and mildew so it does make sense.

My allergy doctor says most food reactions, other than nuts and shellfish, are actually more digestive problems and not hives or sores in the mouth. I have also had two episodes of my eyes swelling closed. The first time, it took a week for the swelling to go down and that was with being in the hospital for 2 1/2 days and being pumped full of Bendryl, Claritin, and Prednizone. The second time I caught it sooner and only had to take the meds for 2 days.
Still don't know what is happening but I still feel the mouth sores and the eyes swelling is related. Have been to an ENT, oral surgeon, allergy doctor and regular doctors.

any of the food colorings will affect you..check your labels and look for F D & C and the color numbers--they're pretty hard to avoid

'Twas I who mentioned that; and, yes, it's my hubs who is allergic to it.

It's important to note that anyone can develop an allergy to a food, a product, or a plant, etc., to which they never previously had a reaction. So, the question to answer isn't always, "have you started using any new soaps," etc., because it isn't always something new.

And, my hubs' allergy is to ASPIRIN, but the yellow dye causes the same problem in folks who are allergic to aspirin. Yellow dye also causes problems for folks who have asthma.

It's such a serious problem that my husband's doctor prescribed an Epi pen for him...

Glad you had them checked. I only had them once and they were miserable. They suspect I got mine from the smoke of a chuch fire. I couldn't get through and they were ready to open the road so I waited it out. It wasn't all that bad or I couldn't have been in it. I never knew until then you could get them from enviromental exposures.
