We haven't had rain since mid-June; the lake is over a foot low and it's only August! Do a rain dance with me.

Yes, and I don't know who is getting the "stray shower", but it ain't my house.

Today: A mix of clouds and sun. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible. High 99F. Winds SSW at 10 to 15 mph.
Tonight: Clear to partly cloudy. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible. Low 71F. Winds SSW at 10 to 15 mph.

Dallas area here - they said on the news yesterday that this weekend "will be the hottest in years".

I haven't seen a stray shower either.

It lost its favor here after too many middle of the night "wake ups" for nothing. Then we had a major wind go through about a year ago. Blew trees down, made our house move, took out two entire buildings on our farm site - NO weather alert message. NWS deemed it a "non event". Even the local Sheriff had called in to double check why alerts weren't going off - they said nothing was happening (as he sat in his car that was bouncing up and down in the wind.) It was a straight line type of storm, and maybe those are not predictable or visible to their equipment. I do like to be able to turn it on for forecast and during bad weather, since the new digital TV doesn't work for us at all during bad weather. You will enjoy it for that. It is a very nice gift!

Towns and villages west and northwest of Chicago have been hit hard by wedge tornados. The town of Fairdale, pop. 2200 is wiped out, with one confirmed death, and may have more. Crews are going door to door looking for victims and offering help. Strangers are helping farmers round up their livestock, or are looking for pets. I am well east of the storms path but we have been watcing the news and all the lighting the storm has generated. It was a wild night and we have been damn lucky that it missed the Ohare area. My friends in the area are all safe. Please, set up a plan for weather emergancies. Although we are on the outer edge of Chicago, we have a plan to get us and the dog into the basement. Candles, battery radio, comfy chairs, a first aid kit and a crate. Cell phone and flashlights were at the ready if we need to take cover.

George, That sounds like Tim and I. We usually try to fix things with duct tape until it cannot be fixed any more. stockergal, We have sunshine this afternoon and it is gorgeous....kinda hurts your eyes though as they haven't seen it in so long. The photos of the storm damage are astounding. One of the things that is so bad is that damage just keeps happening week after week after week, with cities, counties, companies and individuals having to repair first one thing and then another, and you never catch up because as soon as you repair the damage from one storm (or, even before you get a chance to make the repairs), here comes another storm with more damage. This week on our evening news they kept showing the rising water at Lake Texoma as it began to flood buildings...the same ones it flooded in 2007. Deja vu. My only comment on that is that if I had a building that flooded, I'd rebuild it higher afterwards, in case another flood comes along in, oh, another 8 years. I guess lakeside businesses think that they won't get flooded again, but they have....and not even a decade later. Molly, I'm glad that one missed yall. That is too close for comfort. I think we have had more tornado warnings in our county (which, historically, hasn't had a lot of tornadoes compared to most other parts of OK) this spring than we've had in any other year since we moved here in 1999. I'd like to have a year where we don't have to go to the shelter a single time, just to make up for having to run to it so many times this year. Dawn

Amy, That's a lot of rain. I know you'd share if you could. It is so discouraging to see the rain do everything in its power to avoid us. I knew the time would come when we'd be paying for all that rain we got in 2015 and the first half of 2016, and I believe it now is time to pay the piper. If I'd had as much rain as you, I'd definitely be spraying the fungicide. It is a whole lot easier to nip those issues in the bud early than to try to control them after they're widespread. Rebecca, I'm glad the Creole plant wasn't damaged. Tomato cages do provide a lot of protection and that's one of the things I like about them---the Florida Weave cannot and does not protect tomato plants as well as cages do. Michelle, I've seen those watering cans like that and think they are so pretty. Maybe the rain gods think your watering can is an homage to them so they've reciprocated by coming over and dumping rain on your plants. Usually, we can make it rain by painting the house. I think that's a lot of work though just to inspire rain to fall. Oh, and we just painted the house in, I think, 2014 or 2015, so it is too soon to paint it again (for which I am grateful). There are other ways to make it rain.....pour concrete, wash all the cars, clean all the exterior windows (especially the second story ones), etc. It will rain again eventually. Until then I am going to be grumpy. It is hard enough, as all of you know, to keep plants happy in June, July and August even if rain is falling. Without rain, it is nearly impossible, no matter how much you water. We have had a couple of young hens go broody. We let each of them set on a handful of eggs because they were so determined. It was sort of a waste of eggs---but at least we have two happy hens. Each hen hatched out one chick and then promptly abandoned the rest of the eggs. First-time mama hens sometimes do this---like they are so proud they hatched out a single egg that they forget there's 6 or 8 other eggs still sitting in the nest. So, we have a tiny new black chick and a tiny new white chick, both in the brooder together under a heat lamp to keep them warm enough, and their mothers are free-ranging with the rest of the flock today. There's nothing like th cheep-cheep-cheep of a little chick to start out the day right. Dawn

Amazingly, at about 7:00 pm the temps go in the 70's and a gentle breeze makes it very pleasant to sit outside. Of course not without my Ice Tea.

WE've had about 20 minutes of steady rain since the last of May. The weather person keeps promising us scattered showers, but they are scattering somewhere other than here. We need a dance too. Eva I think everyone who reads these posts should get up from their computer chair and immediately do a rain dance.

Our actual temps haven't been as high as yours, but they have been in the mid to high nineties the past few weeks except for a couple of days of clouds and thunder ( no rain though ). Our heat index has been between high ninties and 115Â° though. My back yard is looking horrible. I feed the birds in the morning and pull a few weeds, but I don't go back outside til I have to and then only to refresh the birdbath water or get the mail.

Thankfully our night time temps drop into the 70s.

Here in NE TX, thunderstorms were predicted yesterday & it began to cloud over. Went to carport to get something & heard a strange sound. Looked around & glory be, I thought I saw rain drops. Ran out onto the driveway...sure enough there they were, all ELEVEN of 'em fell, but not even ONE more.

Sky has gotten very dark, thunder rumblings in the distance.
Weatherman didn't have any rain predictions for the weekend, but I think he is wrong :o)

Eva, I've got some plants I'm having to water twice a day. I've moved some of the containers and hanging baskets into full shade, but it's still HOT. I think I got a little sick being out in it today. It's just summer in Texas and I guess we pay the price for not having those nasty, snowy winters others have. Y'all stay cool! Oh, I forgot, Eva, you are cool.

It was so hot this morning at 6 am! Got up into the 90s. Ugh. I guess I better quit complaining because soon it will be cold and nasty out and I'll be wishing it was summer again.

WOW..our highs aren't even getting to your lows right now..
Thursday it rained for HOURS! Got well over an inch..maybe closer to two at my house!
