When advertising "aging and wrinkle" cream WHY.....

do they use models that are young and don't have wrinkles yet. I just don't understand it. The models they use look in their 20's whey not use women that are age appropriate.

That has always been an issue with me. Same as using slim models to show you what not to wear if you are overweight, or have heavy thighs, arms, etc. Everyone is young. They need to get some honest-to-goodness real people.

Because age and wrinkle creams don't work. If they used 40/50 somethings they would have to brush out the crows feet and lines in the after picture. This way they just have to take a shot in really bad angle and light for the before pic and one in good light for the after. After all everyone knows cameras don't lie. *snort*

Thank you all for your info on RCT. I bought a used arbor/trellis from a neighbor moving back to Michigan...and now am thinking of what kind of rose to climb it. I'm attracted to RCT because of CoriAnn's glowing reviews a couple of years ago and the part it about it being nearly thornless -- the arbor would go over the path from the side of the house to the back of the house, and is well used. So I don't want random thorns catching people! Those of you who've grown it -- would you mind updating your photos? And I'd love to see howyour hillside is looking, @cherylestes! Thanks!

Word of mouth is always the best form of advertising - and it is something you cannot buy. Look at the calendar for next year and plot out when you will have the best of the best for sale. Make sure you have your advertising in place to direct people to you when you are at your peak. Their experience with you will lay the foundation for good word of mouth. After things get established then you want to advertise during your low season to expand your customer base and stretch your season. You need to really look at your budget and set aside a certain amount for advertising - either break it down each season, each month or just each year. To get the most out of advertising you have to really do the math and plan ahead (a lot like growing). Easy advertising is to make yourself available for local media - be the expert they can interview for a story (doesn't have to be about you). Get your name in the news once each season. Its all about reminding people who you are and what you do. It doesn't have to be something elaborate or time consuming. Years ago, in a bigger city I worked for a zoo. The PR department used to do these silly stories every other month about one of the animals. The story always made it out like that animal was special and new when in fact it had been in the collection for years. When I mentioned once to one of the marketing folks how silly this all looked they told me those simple stories increased attendance by 10 to 20 percent.

The "Free Enterprise" devotees like to talk about the wonderful competition that keeps the market on the straight and narrow, i.e. charging realistic prices. They love competition among their suppliers, which means that they can demand reasonable quotes for stuff they purchase - actually, not exactly. They'll take the lowest price offer for comparable merchandise, unconcerned whether the maker can make it for that price. Which is why U.S. factories (paying $20.00/hour, plus benefits) are sitting idle, while Wal-Mart and other such buy stuff by the boatload from ... it used to be Mexico, or Japan/Korea, etc. when they paid workers $20.00/day (if that high, and no benefits), then Hong Kong/Singapore when their prices went up, now India or China. They love competition among those buying their stuff, as well. But ... they hate competition on their own level. And will do what ever is necessary to get rid of it, e.g. buying out the competition (often at unreaklistically low prices), squeezing them out, whatever. Just get rid of them. What they really llike is "Private Enterprise" - and as few of that number in their own field as possible. Can you name an industry/commercial system in our part of the world where there are more than half a dozen or so entities (and often fewer than that) that carry on something like 80% or more of the business in that field? When that is the situation - prices become artificial. The monopolies/oligopolies can charge what they like, when the real competitors have disappeared from the market. We've had several studies, evaluations, investigations, etc., etc. here regarding the price of gasoline. All have concluded that there really is competition in gas pricing! We had them when we lived in FL. It was awful- FL is so flat and the sound from the speakers on the trucks would carry for probably a mile, so when you first heard the horrible music, you knew you were going to hear it for a couple of hours as he toodled thru the neighborhoods. It's a Small World. The theme song from The Sting/The Gambler, earworms like you wouldn't believe. I don't miss them at all. They would run every day, all afternoon long, during the summer and on every weekend, it was very not peaceful. That was 20 years ago and a treat was at least $1. I never saw too many kids stop the truck, but there had to have been enough business for him to keep coming back. Exactly. Those creams don't work. Aging is a privilege denied to so many people. Enjoy it. You've earned the lines and wrinkles.

The whole "truth in advertising" thing bothers me sometimes. When I worked for Lever Brothers back in the 1960s we had to be very careful not to present anything the slightest bit misleading in advertising. That sort of thing was monitored closely.

What happened to those rules, I have no idea. Now we have Photoshop, and airbrushing, and ads are filled with people who look like they're made of plastic, with Barbie Doll bodies to match. And have you noticed the mascara ads? Most of those eyelashes couldn't possibly be real!

I used to think the same thing, then I decided that the perhaps the ads suggest using the creams while you are young to help ward off the wrinkles at age 50. ha.

I am 75 and every day I think of how fortunate I am to have reached this age without anything but discomfort, wrinkles and straw for hair, when others around me are sick or dying. I live in a patio development and so many of the home owners have died or gone to care homes.

I'm also 75 and I also think how fortunate I am, especially when you pick up the paper and read the obits......

I have to laugh or wonder, when they advertise a treatment for getting rid of the double chin etc., and they have side by side pictures of the same woman...Of course in the before, the woman is shown, holding her head in such a way, she has a triple chin but in the after, there she is with a smile that looks like she's hurting from holding up that chin (that isn't supposed to be there any longer)......
I think at this age, I've earned every grey hair, the wrinkles and all the extra bumps.....I've been on a long trip and some of the roads weren't paved too well.......
