When advertising "aging and wrinkle" cream WHY.....

do they use models that are young and don't have wrinkles yet. I just don't understand it. The models they use look in their 20's whey not use women that are age appropriate.

That has always been an issue with me. Same as using slim models to show you what not to wear if you are overweight, or have heavy thighs, arms, etc. Everyone is young. They need to get some honest-to-goodness real people.

Because age and wrinkle creams don't work. If they used 40/50 somethings they would have to brush out the crows feet and lines in the after picture. This way they just have to take a shot in really bad angle and light for the before pic and one in good light for the after. After all everyone knows cameras don't lie. *snort*

Uh-Oh! Epimedium's are just as addictive as Hosta's. Maybe moreso, since they have those delicate little Orchid-like flowers! and some species just keep on flowering all summer. I started with a few of the more common types and graduated to some of the more rare ones and now I look for the newly identified and named species, mostly from China. Darrell Probst is my enabler. I have ordered many of his plants(and well satisfied with all of them), plus importing some myself. Plant addiction is akin to the chemical type (I'm told, as I have had no experience with the latter) and I collect many Genera/species of the Plantae Kingdom. Once you become addicted, there is no known cure! (Well, there is one, but it is almost always fatal)! Have lots of fun! :Q) Rb

"kframe - By my calculations you need about 2.25 cups of HC to make 1.5 quarts of ice cream." Yes, it's generally more expensive to make your own ice cream. But have I said, anywhere, that the overall cost is what I object to? No. And besides, NO ONE makes my signature flavor of ice cream... cinnamon nutmeg. "To reiterate the point that I cannot seem to get through:... ice cream is a luxury." So what? The status of an item in a family's grocery order is NOT the issue. The issue is how the company is conducting its purchasing interaction with the consumer -- above board, or underhanded and sneaky. I know you've been tossing out the fact that ice cream is a "luxury" item. I've not addressed it because it's not germane for the reason I've stated above. The milk comparison is even less valid as I'll got months without purchasing milk. To me, milk isn't even a necessity, but again, its importance on my overall shopping list isn't the issue.

Maybe the generic stuff isn't cream of tartar at all? I found a test on a site called Global Post. A "duh!" moment, because that's a normal use for cream of tartar. That is, it's an acid that's either used to stabilize eggwhites or activate the bubbling of baking soda. It's well worded (and it works), so I've quoted below: Test the potency of the cream of tartar, if you're uncertain, by stirring a half-teaspoon into a half-cup of warm water. Add a generous pinch of baking soda. If it foams vigorously, the soda and tartar will still work together effectively in your baking. If you're using the water test and don't get a reaction from your soda, repeat the test with lemon juice in the water. If the soda still doesn't foam, it's your soda that's the problem. Soda is much more susceptible to moisture in the atmosphere and loses its potency over time. Date your boxes of soda and replace them after a year if necessary.

I'm wondering how long the Viagra pills are effective? Not about to try them to find out ... who wants pants like a tent, even if often I don't leave the farm for a few days? Our national public broadcasdter has carried a program, called "The Age of Persuasion" by an advertising guy that's reasonably droll, ironic and funny, for a couple of years, that gives the skinny on the various aspects of the advertising game. I wrote about one the other day, relating the ideas and words used in advertising to those used in warfare, including a link for anyone who wanted to hear the program. There's at least a score of 27 minute episodes there. Interesting. Exactly. Those creams don't work. Aging is a privilege denied to so many people. Enjoy it. You've earned the lines and wrinkles.

The whole "truth in advertising" thing bothers me sometimes. When I worked for Lever Brothers back in the 1960s we had to be very careful not to present anything the slightest bit misleading in advertising. That sort of thing was monitored closely.

What happened to those rules, I have no idea. Now we have Photoshop, and airbrushing, and ads are filled with people who look like they're made of plastic, with Barbie Doll bodies to match. And have you noticed the mascara ads? Most of those eyelashes couldn't possibly be real!

I used to think the same thing, then I decided that the perhaps the ads suggest using the creams while you are young to help ward off the wrinkles at age 50. ha.

I am 75 and every day I think of how fortunate I am to have reached this age without anything but discomfort, wrinkles and straw for hair, when others around me are sick or dying. I live in a patio development and so many of the home owners have died or gone to care homes.

I'm also 75 and I also think how fortunate I am, especially when you pick up the paper and read the obits......

I have to laugh or wonder, when they advertise a treatment for getting rid of the double chin etc., and they have side by side pictures of the same woman...Of course in the before, the woman is shown, holding her head in such a way, she has a triple chin but in the after, there she is with a smile that looks like she's hurting from holding up that chin (that isn't supposed to be there any longer)......
I think at this age, I've earned every grey hair, the wrinkles and all the extra bumps.....I've been on a long trip and some of the roads weren't paved too well.......
