Anyone ever use Black Gold potting soil?
Comments (33)What works and what doesn't is far more often than not based on subjective opinion. IT WORKS, says no more than the person making the claim is satisfied with the combination of his choice of potting medium and how it meshes with his care regimen. We know that media based on large fractions of fine particles are too often too unforgiving for any but very experienced growers to realize top notched results; whereas, media based on large fractions of coarse materials (usually greater than 75% of pine bark, perlite, aggregates like Turface MVP [calcined clay], perlite, pumice, crushed granite [grower size Gran-I-Grit or Manna-Pro poultry grit], or crushed cherrystone size 2), offer high air porosity and very little excess (perched) water retention. In making the adjustment from media too water retentive to media well aerated but with less ability to hold water, one should expect to water more frequently. This is because the water reservoir that offers watering intervals measured in weeks instead of fewer days than the 4 fingers on u-one hand comes at the expense of soil oxygen levels/ air porosity. The less water held between soil particles, the better the opportunity growers can provide for plants to realize as much of their genetic potential as possible. There can be no such thing as a healthy plant unless it is growing on a healthy root system and some grow media are poor candidates due to the fact they significantly limit that opportunity. Comments (11)Thanks everyone. I am still waiting on the tests. Thankfully I have not had to have a hysterectomy and was lucky enough to be 57 when menopause hit. Re the food and products from the health food store, I did try both both but couldn't handle the recommended foods (actually I used to eat a lot of them which contributed to my acid based kidney stone at age 40 - but, hey, I probably owe my skin to said foods). In Canada - at least according to my GP, the Gyno and the pharmacist I have to take both Prometrium and Estrogel - not just the Prometrium - who knows? I just hope the doctor was able to get enough from the biopsy that she did without sedation so that I don't have to go into the hospital for a larger biospy - I figured it would be under a local - nope they knock you out. I had the mammo last Tues. - the results will come in the mail with a copy to my doctor. I may end up like SunnyDJ - taking something every 3rd or 4th day depending on the results and how I fare without it. Of course a lot will also depend on my test results. Cost wise it isn't cheap but since they are my only prescriptions and I will be covered under my husband's office plan for 18 months I won't worry about that. Our provincial insurance does not cover the cost of prescriptions until you turn 65 and then only some are covered - and not fully, there is a deductible and they are about to cut back on a lot of them - somehow I don't think HRT will be covered! I guess I should feel grateful that I have never experienced a hot flash. I don't sweat - ever - which of course is not good and no doubt accounts for my high body acid. And why I love the heat - but not the sun....See MoreAnyone ever used hydrogen peroxide to remove old blood stains?
Comments (24)Hydrogen peroxide works on fairly fresh stains but you still need to test on an inconspicuous area. DH has a beautiful white terry cloth robe that the kids gave him for father's day and he managed to get some blood on it. He used hydrogen peroxide which took out the blood stain but it also yellowed the robe. I've never had that happen before. The robe was 100% cotton and the label tag said not to use a chlorine bleach. I've had positive experiences with Clorox totally Spotless Feminine Stain Remover. I hate the name and wrote them a letter complaining about it but the product does work. According to the label it contains Hydrogen Peroxide, Nonionic Surfactant. I have no idea why it should work any better that plain hydrogen peroxide but it has even removed some older blood stains....See More? for anyone who's ever had an allergic reaction to detergent
Comments (26)To throw more wood on the fire, I am one of those that can't tolerate strong fragrances either. They make me want to gag, eyes water, choke, cough, etc. Consequently, I don't wear cologne, aftershave, or scented deodorants. Being in an elevator with someone who has perfume on..is awful. I don't usually consider that the same as allergies, but they did come on about the same time for me (some thirty years ago). And a lot of personal care products break me out too. I first noticed when I was a youngster and mother slathered me with some kind of sunscreen. My face was burning like acid in just a few minutes...and being oily and in the middle of the lake, couldn't get it off....See More- 13 years ago
