My husband has done some DNA testing, Autosomal, which is where you match cousins and that is probably what he is asking you to do. The other hubs did was Y testing, trying to find males with the same surname. One thing you can do to have a little more control over the results is to 1) make sure you have the kit number and that you set up the password. I had ordered kits for two people and paid for them myself. This was so I could see the results but I also included their email addresses so they would get results and match notifications as well. Once I determined if hubs was related to them (one yes, one no), then I had them change the passwords so that I can no longer get into their kit information. Our situation is a little different than yours but again in our case, like yours, these were total strangers who agreed to help us out. ] Be aware that there are sites that the DNA information can be downloaded to sites like gedcom where people that have different companies that test can compare results. This person may then have your information out there for anyone to compare your DNA to theirs. Names are not listed, just your kit number and he would probably put his email address as the contact person. There is an option of not putting email address at all but then that limits possible matches from contacting him/you. These are questions you should discuss before you do the test. Know if he is having the results sent to him only, you only, or both. If you have them sent only to you, then you can request him sending his to you and you could be the one who sees if there is a match. The person who hubs did not match still appreciated receiving the information and we still keep in touch. The one who did match has helped confirmed our lines matching back to the GGGF in the late 1700's. The autosomal testing is not as definite. We get matches all the time but the probability is small. It has helped to find some relatives that we weren't sure of. Do you know the name of the company and type of test?

Hi... Long time lurker here. I had the same problem trying to get my Dad's military records. St Louis claimed to know nothing. I *knew* my Dad was in the Army during WW2. So what I did was call the local Veteran's dept. (New Hampshire)...who also claimed to have no info! They suggested that I call the State Adjutant general's office, and gave me the phone number. The gentleman that I spoke with was not sure he could help, but I gave him all the info I had,(approximate dates and places, and of names of commanding officers that I remembered my Dad talking about, etc) ***most important was his Social Security number***. About 5 days later I got a letter from him...including a copy of my Dad's discharge papers. That's all I've found so far, but it is proof that he was in the Army, and also has his serial number listed. That's probably all you need to get your Dad his veteran's benefits, so if you get the serial number, make sure to keep that! Does your Dad remember his serial number? My Dad had been deceased for a few years when I did this (for genealogy purposes), but had he been living, I know he would have remembered his serial number! Just be prepared...the copies are hard to read sometimes. They used carbon paper with old typewriters back then, and didn't have a way to do photocopies back in the 1940's. What I received was a photocopy of a carbon copy, and I'm sure the original was just as hard to read as my photocopy. Good Luck, let me know if you have any questions, I will try to help!

write the state office in TN (bureau of vital statistics) request BC for xxxxx, mother yyyyy, father zzzzz. You'd need to know the name your bio mother gave you & her maiden name since they were not md. You can probably find the cost on-line OR contact your local family history dept. at the library. The latter may also be called Geneology dept. And someone from these library dept. can probably help, too. I'd be surprised if it was more than $20 for a BC. In my state, you have to state 'why' you're asking for one (or I did when I sent for g'parents inform). I just stated 'family history'. Later, when you're again employed, you could send for the 'whole package' if you wanted to read it. Good luck!
