Had one last year after a wasp sting. It was time for one, the tetanus shot, not the wasp sting.

I had one a little over a year ago...when I ripped the palm of my hand open on a rusty screw.

My hand has healed up to where you can't even tell it was cut. I can't believe it healed so nicely.

My 16 y.o. granddaughter had one two years ago, but when she went in for her sports physical he gave her another one because it now also includes an anti-whooping cough medicine.

I got one last year when I cut my arm. It had been 8 years since my last one. Shots don't bother me.

The last one I got was for a dog bite. The one before that was from a parrot bite. Geez you'd think animals hate me.

When my husband and I took training as Master Naturalists here in Texas, we both got tetanus shots. We had them renewed two years ago when we moved to the farm. You wouldn't believe how many sharp, rusty things there are around here (I'm the rusty thing, my husband is sharp)!

I thought they were for rusty things. I've never heard of a tetanus shot for a wasp sting or bird bite? Until today, I've never known anyone bitten by a bird!

We just arrived home from working on Dean's sons 'new' home, there were ALOT of glass and metal shards throughout the lawn......and of course, rusty nails! I told myself then, that if I didn't end up stepping on something up there, that I would get another shot when I next went to the Dr. It has been wayyyyyyyyyy too many years for me!

I had one last year, after stepping on a roofing nail, after we got a new roof.

I keep a medical journal, to keep track of such things.

Tetanus is a serious illness caused by tetanus bacteria. The bacteria live in soil, saliva, dust and manure. The bacteria usually enter the body through a deep cut, like those you might get from cutting yourself with a knife or stepping on a nail.

Probably for the bird bite (on my lip) it was just time for a tetanus. I work at a clinic so no big deal. The dog bite was especially nasty and maybe fell into that contaminated area.

I also wondered about the wasp, but when you think about it, wasp use mud to make their nest.

Before I was born, my Grandma had "lockjaw" tetanus. It is a wonder she lived through it with no side effects. Aren't tetanus shots good for quite a few years?

It is my understanding they are good for 10 years unless you get a serious injury and then you need a booster.

I was told they were good for 10 years also. My 10 years were up. My first one was for travel to foreign countries.

Tetanus immunizations are for any deep puncture would....the tetani bacillus grows in anerobic conditions.
It is recommended to have a booster every ten years but if it has been five or more and you have a puncture wound, it is given.
My cousin's cousin died of tetanus when he was 13. (Back in the 1950's)

Better safe than sorry, for sure! I knew a parrot who bit KEYS in half just for fun, so I know a parrot bite can be a BAD bite.

I got a booster last year, they were nice and warmed it up in their hands before injecting it. Tetanus/Diptheria boosters HURT if their cold, they're so thick.

I knew a dog who survived tetanus, very rare thing. His ears locked up, that was a clue to his illness, German Shepherd ears, practically crossed. Later, the dog was stolen and then located. A tetanus antigen test (or something, I forget) ID'd the dog, proved his identity, so the original owner got him back!

I've been bitten by a parrot. My last tetanus shot was for a horse bite tho....the one that almost ripped off my breast.:(

I've been bitten by every kind of animal, creature, insect you can think of. I don't usually worry about tetanus, but I may go get another shot next time I go to the doctor because my rehabber friend just lost two raccoons to lockjaw.

I see my doctor on a regular basis and she tells me when I'm due for one; no need for an injury! Had my last one in '04 (my medical records are on eXcel).

Hah! I haven't had a tetanus shot since 1972 whenI had an allergic reaction. When I had an injury in 1984, I told them in ER about the reaction & they wouldn't give me a shot. Told me to go to my Doc & get a series of gamma globulin shots. Which I didn't. Tetanus is an anaerobic (lives without oxygen) and is found in soil & UNDER rust (hence, stepping on a rusty nail could get you infected. So could digging in the dirt, with a puncture injury! I'm a fanatic gardener =much dirt digging.) Guess I've just been lucky?

I had chills and night sweats last night! That must be a potent shot.

I also dreamt that I died. Dead as a door nail. IÂm alive to write about it today because that dream was in 3rd person and I was watching everything, so I "really" wasnÂt dead. I heard if you die in your sleep you die in real life. IÂm not planning to test that theory!

I get a news letter from an American doctor living and practicing in the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest, she was amazed at the unsanitary conditions she worked in with no infections. Delivering babies, operations on a table in a hut with thatched roofs and machete wounds that go to the bone, etc.. She thinks maybe the AMA is a bit overly cautious in the US. Conditions are better now because of contributions from tourists and the organization who built her a clinic and a "Ronald McDonald House".

My last one was December 1992. I got bit by a stray cat, two weeks later I cut my hand on a knife reaching into the dishwasher. Lucky thing I hasd my tetanus shot. I do a lot of gardening but I wear gloves.
