I've been wondering how you are doing. How much longer do you have to wear the boot?

Thanks for asking Tami! I still have the boot. I am trying to wean off of it, but not sure how good that is going. I am suppose to be done with it by the 28th....that will be 10 weeks...but I think it will be on and off a bit longer. I twisted my other knee about 5 weeks ago, and when I wear the boot, it kills my knee (had MRI on it...nothing!), but when I don't wear the boot, I can feel my ankle aching! What a PITA getting older is!!!!! LOL

The Dr. will take more x-rays on the 28th, and then we will go from there. He mentioned that we might do another MRI since it was so hard to see the actual culprit in the original x-rays.

I am Sooooooooooooooooooooo ready to get out and start walking again!!! I am just so glad that I am on Byetta (for my diabetes) to help with my appetite, or I would have ended up gaining ALOT of weight....instead, I am loosing! =)

I'm glad to hear you're doing better. I'm sorry you twisted the other knee! Don't push going with out the boot until told you can. It will ache without it even when you are allowed out. Be sure you are walking heel to toe, carefully, and have a shoe that is as close to the same height as the boot. THINK about walking, instead of doing it on auto. You may be twisting that leg when you walk which will twist the knee you already twisted. Make sense? I'm not to awake yet. And after twisting it, it needs time to heal, also. Were you told to stay off of your ankle as muchs as possible? It only slowed me down, didn't stop me walking. The day after I got my boot, we left for a 90th b/d party in KS! I can't even remember the scenic train rides, the county fair........ It was extra tireing, tho. It did limit me some, but I couldn't slow down much. I even went camping with it, and not in the motor home where I have more room! I am just wondering why you had to stop walking. As for the Byetta, my dad is on it and he says he never had the nausea that some have. He also says he didn't have the weight loss. Tho he has lost weight, I am not sure that was it. I think it's just that as he gets older, he just can't eat as much. I think he eats less than half of what he did a year ago. He's been on the Byetta for several years.

Oh dear!! This is a way old post,sorry, I just now seen this Mike. The tarps i ordered from the company are the brown tarps and water runs right off them. As for water proof that i don't recall put the tarps are heavy duty.. My ponds is above ground and I keep the bio filter hooked up and running all winter. I have already had temps down to 20 and I curently have the tarp on my pond with it rolled back. When the temp rises I roll the tarp back about half of the lenght of my pond to expose the water on sunny warmer days, then unroll the tarp to recover the pond on cold and windy days. Takes about 30 seconds to cover it back up and strap it down. Water doesn't freeze at all when it's covered up. I use two 2x4's laying across the top of the pond to help keep the tarp off the top of the water in the pond. I'll see about getting a picture with the tarp on the pond. Do a search of my name while on this forum and you should be able to find a picture I posted of the pond setup during summer, it will give you an idea of how my pond looks during summer and i'll try and get a picture uploaded of the pond with the tarp on it. It is impossible to change clay soil to sandy soil. Your soil composition is the result of millions of years of geologic effects of earthquakes, glacial movement, oceans coming and going, etc. More recently, the bulldozers that excavated the lot that your home is built on may have had a significant effect on your soil, but even that was probably minimal. If you try to add sand to your clay soil, I'm afraid you'll end up with something very close to concrete. The best way to improve the drainage of your soil is to incorporate organic material such as compost, shredded leaves, wood chips, peat, manure, etc. these will all increase the ability of water and air and nutrients to flow through the soil, which increases the availability of these items to the plant roots. Unfortunately, these additions need to be made repeatedly since the micro-organisms in the soil break the organic matter down, which is how it becomes available to the plants. Fortunately, nature cycles in such a way that organic matter is replaced yearly as fallen leaves each autumn. That is why the soil in deciduous forests is so rich, and why our ancestors cut down all the trees to grow crops. Unfortunately, they also cut down part of the very source of the rich soil. Covers In Play, or an automatic/retractable would seem to be the only reliable/practical options. Or skip it. Blowing sand isn't beach lounging or poolside friendly to my mind unless IN the water. I'd want shelter from it, or I'd be toughing it out in the ocean. I'd also want a salt water pool, much kinder to skin and loaaded with good old "Mortons" and a filter running 24/7. Fabulous. At 1000 bucks a night, I expect a housekeeper, and pool boy to take care of ANY maintenance issue, or jack it to 1500 per nite if need be.
