Well it seems quite fitting to be praying for a little donkey when it was one of it's forefather's that carried the mother of our Lord and Savior as she carried him in her womb on the way to Bethlehem. May God bless them both.

How sad............Sending good thoughts for the little donkey. It's so dangerous to little creatures when it is so hot. I have a bunny and he suffers so I freeze bottles of water for him to help keep him cool and he has his own fan.

Marilyn, we know you will do all you can to save this baby. Thats all you can do. Sending good thoughts for a complete recovery.

Prayers being said for both the baby donkey and for Marilyn. I don't know which is worse for our animals ... the bitter, freezing cold or this terrible terrible heat. Both can be so deadly.

If anybody can save this baby, Marilyn can. She has the healing hands of a saint if it is to be.

Marilyn is a very special lady with a wonderful heart. If anyone an get this lil donkey to pull through it will be her and with a bit of help from God.. Prayers being said often for both of them today and until this lil donkey is better.

Oh that's too bad! I wonder what happened!!?? Wasn't the little one drinking or what? Were they in the shade? I know you don't know, mscippy--but it's just so puzzling.

Thank you all so much. I appreciate such good friends, more than you will ever know. The little donkey didn't make it.
I knew that her chances were slim, and the vet agreed we should give her a chance, but I knew if she didn't rally today, it wouldn't be any point to prolong the inevitable. I hadn't posted pictures here....she was born July 27th, mainly because I wanted to get some more and better pictures of her.

I will start a new thread when I come in from doing chores. I just got home a little bit ago, and I knew MsCsippy had posted about it, and I wanted to come here and thank you.
She was so precious....and no, she wasn't in the sun. It is just so unbearably hot here, and this is a bad time of year for a foal to be born...especially one with such thick hair as the baby had. I am heartsick about it...more for her mother than for myself. That was the saddest part of it all.

Ohhhh, I'm so sorry for your heartache, Marilyn. I've not been on the computer as much recently and missed the post about the birth, which you (and we!) had been waiting for. Were you ever able to move any of the donkeys to your place? (Sorry if this is repeat info.) Mother Nature sure can be cruel at times....I hope another baby will come along soon.

I haven't written anything about an update on the donkeys...I was off line for a couple of weeks and I had a very bad injury....and I didn't even post when she was born, but I have some pictures and I will write about it tomorrow. I am going to bed...I didn't get any sleep last night. Thanks again.

I am so sorry to hear this. This has been the worst summer of my life and the life of my animals. I read a lot of tragic stories about animals dying in the heat. Some were stupidly left in cars, and eight puppies died in the cargo of a plane. Donkeys are the sweetest dearest animals. I am so sorry for your loss.

So sorry. The heat has been bad in WV, I can only imagine how bad it is in the LA/TX area! Do you have any other babies around that would be appropriate for the poor mama?

Janie, no, no babies. There is a little donkey there that doesn't look very good, but he is about two months old, and so he will probably live, since he has lasted that long. I don't think his mother has much milk, but we wouldn't be able to get him to nurse this jenny, and, too, I am sure his mama loves him. I wouldn't want to stress her by taking her baby away.

However, I have taken another donkey from the pasture...or, rather, she took it on herself to get in the corral, and so now I feed and take care of her, and she is in foal. I don't think it will come for about a month, so maybe the weather will cool off a little by then. This is just an awful time of year for foals to be born, but since they are all pasture bred, they can come any time, and I have seen a couple of other jennies that are very heavy in foal, and due soon. There is also a new black baby born last week. It is so precious. I am going to feed the mother every time she comes up, and maybe she will start coming up all the time.

Oh, Marilyn, how heartbreaking! I'm so very sorry.

I'm so sorry for you and the mom. And sorry for the loss of the little one. It's truly heartbreaking, and I know the mother must be crying for her baby. Hugs all around.

Patti, I have cut her feed down to just a little token amount, and turned her out into the paddock. She still has all the hay she can eat and gets carrots every day. I rubbed some camphorated oil on her udder, which is supposed to help too, so she will dry up in a few days...a week or 10 days more likely.
