What Is The Price Of Chicken In Your Area?

I see this week Meijer has boneless, skinless chicken breasts for $1.79. Personally I prefer the dark meat and with the bones in them. However I do buy the boneless ones. Izzi gets some of those cooked for her menu. How are prices in your area?

Winn-Dixie has skinless breast with the ribs for $1.79 and boneless, skinless for $1.99. Those are for the family packs, but we buy them and seal them in meal-sized portions. Chicken legs are $1.19 lb.

Next week Meijer is having chicken legs or thighs for $.99 a pound. I plan to buy some of those. They might be something I will fry up for one of the church dinners soon. I did buy a bunch of the $1.79 boneless, skinless chicken breasts today and have them simmering in the crock pot.

Outrageous that the big oil folks and their supporters can trump up phony shortages and bilk the entire world! I live in a rural area. I use a propane tank for gas heat. It costs around $400 to fill a 250 gallon tank. One is supposed to request a fill-up, when the tank is at 25% and they only fill it 80% because gas can expand. Thank goodness I also have a wood stove to mitigate the cost of the propane. I can get a cord of wood for around $180. I bought a neat device from Lehman's Non-electric catalog (Amish country). It is a small fan, which sits atop the wood stove. It is powered by the heat rising from the stove. The fan is silent and does a good job of spreading heat. Lorna

this is one of my favs that I use with leftover or grilled chicken from the store - more of a warm weather meal. From The Splendid Table Almond Chutney Chicken in Lettuce Roll-Ups Ingredients: Chicken Salad: One 3-pound roasted chicken(take-out works here) 1 medium red onion, cut into 1/4-inch dice Grated zest of 1 large lemon Juice of 3 large lemons, or more to taste 2 jalapenos, seeded and minced, or hot sauce to taste 9-ounce jar Major Grey Chutney, cut into bite-size pieces if necessary 1/2 cup mayonnaise Salt and fresh-ground black pepper to taste 3 large stalks celery, cut into 1/4-inch dice 1 cup whole salted almonds, coarse chopped Lettuce Cups and Herbs: 1 large head Bibb lettuce, leaves separated, washed and dried 1 large bunch fresh basil, washed and dried 1 large bunch fresh coriander, washed and dried 8 radishes, thin sliced 1 large cucumber, peeled, seeded and sliced into thin rounds or 2-inch sticks Method: Pull the meat from the chicken carcass, discarding the skin and bones. Cut it into bite-sized pieces. In a large bowl combine the onions, lemon zest and juice, jalapeno, chutney, mayonnaise, salt, and pepper. Fold in the chicken. Taste the mix for lemon, mayonnaise, and herbs, adding more as needed. Let it stand 20 minutes to blend flavors, or refrigerate overnight. To serve, blend the celery and nuts into the chicken mixture. Mound the salad at one side of a big platter. Pile up the lettuce leaves at the other side, and cluster sprigs of herbs in the center. Tuck the radishes and cucumbers next to the herbs. Put a few herb leaves in the bottom of a lettuce "cup," top them with a spoonful of the salad, a slice each of radish and cucumber, and roll up. OMG...I was just going to post about this! I just went past the gas station closest to us..a fe wblocks away and it has gone up to 4.26 per gallon! For the cheap stuff! It has always been around 3.98 for the last few weeks. the other corner had it for 4.09. DS just called and said the one by his house actually came down a penny from yesterday, it's now 3.97! This guy will most likely have long lines all week end with lower prices. Smart thing to do..he'll sell more in the long run! I also heard that prices will go up again on Monday...probably because they know people that are out of town will need gas to get home and have to pay it!! This makes me sick! Luckily DH works within 15 minutes from home and we spend only $20.00 a week on gas right now. This is the first I've seen over 4.00 so far....it didn't look nice at all!

It surprisingly went down near us the past day or two. But we all know how the "supply/demand" affects prices. If we "demand" less, the price will go down... Though I'm NOT by any means trying to down play the crisis it puts many of us in when these prices get so out of control, it IS all good for the environent... It's my hope that this is a condition/habit that we all try to maintain in good times, as well as bad. We should NEVER, for the good of us all, ever be this dependent on foreign supplies (oil).

Paid 99 cents a pound for chicken legs and thighs (packaged separately, not as a leg/thigh unit) yesterday. I think breasts were $1.79, but not sure. I do not like skinless chicken and/or without the bone. Harder and harder to find it with skin and bones anymore, especially breasts. Pork chops are hard to find with the bones, too. I think a boneless pork chop is a tasteless pork chop.

Good one, Lazypup!

Redcurl, I agree with you about the pork chops. Publix has bone-in. Here's Jasdip's recipe for chicken breast, but it works with the boneless pork chops, too. Delicious! I like to make my own bread crumbs with stale bread and freeze them.

JASDIP'S CHICKEN BREASTS

Dip in a melted butter, Dijon, Worcestershire sauce and minced garlic, then rolled in seasoned breadcrumbs. Bake at 350 for about 1/2 hour or more, depending on the thickness of the chicken.

Okay folks,,here is a tough question for you....What part of the chicken sells for the highest price at the chicken slaughterhouse?

Chicken seems to be the only thing that is still fairly reasonable. Sometimes I eat so much of it I feel like I'm going to grow feathers. I can usually find thighs for .99 a lb on sale and the breasts for 1.99.
