orlando sentinel (only sundays) i don't have time to read anymore than that and this paper is horrible, especially since i grew up on Chicago Tribune & Chicago Sun Times. ~ liz

Women's Day-I bought the subscription from a school child as a fundraiser and it figured out to very little per issue

Newspaper
On Wed get the freebie called the Give-a-way. It has a lot of good local classified ads as well as the local news.
On Sat I get the Journal. It is another weekly but is a paid subscription.

Often I don't get the time to read either of them, particularly in the summer months. The local grocery sale bills come with the Wed paper, and I always scan through those to see if there are any specials worth stocking up on, thus a trip to town.

My goodness, I thought everyone would say Reader's Digest! I guess that's why they are filing for bankruptcy. I've always loved Reader's Digest and learned a lot when I was a kid (remember those "I am Joe's prostate" or "I am Jane's fallopian tubes" series?) LOL

I used to get Southern Living (it was a gift) and Paula Deen (gift also and didn't much care for her butter laden way of cooking) so all I get now is Reader's Digest.

I've enjoyed Country in the past but it's changed hands now and has ads.

So it's Reader's Digest and the Sunday newspaper.

Too many, I fear...

Used to subscribe to First which I really like but I let it lapse and haven't renewed it.

My mom gives me her Good Housekeeping magazines and I enjoy those too.

I read the Smithsonian magazine cover to cover every month. I try to keep up with Newsweek, and I read People when I get my hair cut.

There are some magazines that I will buy if there is something of interest to me ex. nice quilting pattern, but not necessarily on a regular basis.

I also like Audubon, Smithsonian, Prevention, Sunset but don't subscribe.

Subscriptions:

BHG-"join us for only $1/mo" so I bit,
Sunset-"join us for $1/mo" again I bit,
Clean Run-agility magazine for the sport of dog agility,
Nickelodeon for the grandson.
I won't be renewing any of the "special price" mags until they send the "we miss you cards" and offer good deals again.

Thrift shop buys:
Nat Geo,
This Old House,
cross stitch and quilting mags,
dog and horse mags,
old copies of any of the home improvement or gardening mags,
kid's mags for my grandson.

We get the Costco connection and AARP with membership and I try to read those when they come.

We also get the daily local newspaper.

We only get two publications and I'm always falling behind on the weekly one!

The New Yorker (weekly) There isn't a dull article in it!
The National Trust and Royal Oak publications three times a year. It comes with membership; beautiful photography.

We get the Chicago Tribune daily. Getting worse and worse. I picked up a WSJ at the vets this week and thought, "Wow, a *real* newspaper!"

chisue- I agree with you about the Wall St journal. I used to think it was all business and finance but we started subscribing about 3 years ago and I admit it's my favorite for 'real' news.

I only subscribe to Birds and Blooms now.I used to get several cross stitch,but like a lot of others found i had more magazines than time to do them.

I won't buy Oprahs or Marthas because of all the ads in them.I hate a lot of ads in magazines,and also hate those cards that fall out all over the place.

I heard awhile ago that readers digest bought out Reiman publications,the one that has Birds & Bloom Country etc,so i expect it will start being filled with ads,then again i read the other day that readers digest filed for bankruptcy.So who knows what will happen.

I still subscribe to the local newspaper for the local news and ads

I don't buy magazines anymore - they are way too expensive for my budget.

I used to love Martha Stewart for baking and crafts when there were more articles than ads. I love cooking magazines especially Fine Cooking and the new Food Network magazine. My sister buys all the cooking and decorating magazines so when I go to visit her that is what we do - sit and look through magazines. That is her luxury and she buys them all. LOL

My niece gave me a subscription to Chatelaine magazine but I don't care for that one so I usually just pass it along to someone else. I do like Hello Canada and Rayalty but my SIL gives me them after she has read them.

At Christmas I may buy a holiday baking magazine for cookies but now I am realizing there isn't much new with cookie recipes these days. They just rehash the old recipes LOL

I did used to buy the Collectors magazine but I don't even know if it is around anymore.

My Sister always brings me home a Southern Living when she comes home from St. Louis but it is also for sale on our newstands. I like the recipes.

I only get the Windsor Star if my sister goes away and has her paper rerouted to me which happens often. The news is old having been on the local television news the night before so it is no great loss if I don't get the paper.

If I want really want to look at a particular issue of a magazine I can go to the library and read it.

Magazines at my house usually don't get read. I used to get Time and Newsweek but stopped them. I only get BHG now because it was a good offer. My mother got that for years and years. I get Country Living and used to get Country Home till it went bottom up. My parents used to give me Reader Digest every year as they always got it for themselves too. I had a professor in college who hated RD . Said it was geared to a 4th grade reader..Trouble with the country magazines..I can't throw them out. I had every issue of CL and CH till I weeded some out. Now I have 10 years supply.

The only magazine I get at is Taste of Home. Like Marilyn Sue I will not be renewing. I used to love it but decided to not subscribe anymore several years ago.This year they sent me an offer that seemed like a really good rate so I went ahead and subscribed again. WHAT A RIPOFF! Not at all the mag it used to be.

Same thing happened to Weight Watchers magazine.Was a great mag back in the 80's/early 90's until someone bought it and ruined it.

It seems like the Smithsonian and Better Homes and Gardens were mentioned the most and there were several Marthas, Country Living and Reader's Digest.

Oh I forgot about Country Home I really liked that. And Cottage Living too. I used to get both of those.

Regular subscriptions to:

New York Magazine - trendy, provocative, and a great crossword puzzle. A new NYM, a cup of freshly brewed coffee and a truffle or two and my afternoon is all set!

The Weekly Standard - political but polite, and it counteracts NYM!

Via(AAA) - fine travel mag, geared regionally; we receive the West Coast edition and there are so many off-the-beaten-path ideas.

Local newspaper on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Finally gave up all the home decor magazines. At my age, if I can't figure it out, no one else can either. But I still occasionally buy a single issue.

Tried Paula Deen, but when it became clear that I'd need a cardiologist in the kitchen with me, I let it go.

Two magazines I subscribed to, Country Home and Cottage Living went under. I really like those magazines. I find the quality is going downhill in others too. I have subscribed to a yearly delivery of my local paper since 1971 and am dropping it next year. It has gotten so thin and the news is old when I read it in print. I don't know how I'm going to pick up dog poop now .
