I was alone in my car, and slowly passing out...finally couldn't yell for help, groped for my cell phone and called 911 - before GPS days, and 911 kept asking where I was, but although I was in a familiar place - parking lot in nearby Burger King.... all I could communicate was "BurgerKing"...I remember thinking "dying isn't so bad,I don't hurt"

Paramedics found me unconscious and not breathing...did CPR in the car, and I came to as they were lifting me out of the car.

Jannie, I have had two -- once as a 4-year-old when I nearly drowned and again in my 30s in an emergency room during an asthmatic episode.

Your description fits my experiences perfectly -- outside of my body, watching what was going on as an observer, peaceful and without fear.

I suffocated in a dry cleaner bag when I was under 6 mos old. Don't remember a thing. My dog alerted my mother while she was on the phone and when she found me I was blue and cool to the touch.

In 2000 I was hit head on by a full-size truck and then again on the driver side of my car. As the truck was approaching my driver door I was certain, absolutely certain,as the driver's eyes and mine locked, that this was how I would die.

Because my car was in a spin, by the time the truck finally reached me, I had spun out enough where the impact was on the back door instead. I was pushed up over the center median where I came to rest.

All at once everything was eerily quiet and I felt completely at ease and highly euphoric. I was convinced I had died because I felt so good, so perfect. Then I heard my CD playing my favorite singer, Hal Ketchum. When it changed tracks, I snapped to and realized I was alive and without a scratch on me.

To this day I do not know why I felt so euphoric but if that's what it's like to die ... I have no fear.

I have not had an NDE. I loved that show I Survived... Beyond and Back (not aired any more. Not even reruns. I'm very sad!). Your experiences sound just like those on the show. Some don't want to come back because they're feeling so good and they know they'll come thudding back into a physical body with the pain they have just escaped.

Did you go from feeling great to feeling the painful phyiscal body again? That is, was the difference noticeable for you?

Yes, I was 3 years old, I took the car keys and a bobby pin and for some unknown reason I inserted a key into one electrical socket and the bobby pin into the other. I was attached to the electricity. Back then there were not the protections installed there are now. The lights started flickering and the wires started melting, this drew my father at a run, he threw the main breaker which luckily was in the same room. I had no pulse. He began doing resuscitation. I remember everything that was happening, could see it all as if viewing it, I was not scared. He got a pulse, rushed me to the local hospital. I had severe burns on my hands and arms but otherwise I was ok. I can still see it clearly as if it was burned into my brain. I was so young I didn't really realize how serious it was. The doctor said if daddy had not had training in resuscitation I would have been gone.

My brother drowned when I was 13 .. he was a young guy in college. Always wondered if it was painful. After his funeral, I started learning how to swim, and had a near-drown situation at a friend's swimming pool .. another 13-year old boy pulled me up and saved me. It happened so fast and there was no pain, my panic took over the pain of water in my nose.

Sadly this 13-year boy who saved me: A few years later he got paralyzed from the waist down from a car-accident as a teenager. I'm very grateful for what he did. Yes. I was in a wreck in a pickup truck - 16 people in the bed of the truck, 3 in the cab. The driver (drunk) ran off the side of the road and the truck rolled. I was thrown from the bed of the truck and landed about 50' from it.

In the 3 seconds that the truck was rolling, these were my thoughts - and I don't know how THIS MANY thoughts went through my head in that time:

1. I'm going to die.

2. What are my parents going to think/do?

3. That truck is going to roll over on top of me.

4. It doesn't hurt to die!

I wasn't scared, and I wasn't screaming/crying. It was a very peaceful feeling, other than the hurt I felt for my parents.

Yeah, we were young/dumb/stupid. I broke three ribs and still have scars on my left hand.

A nurse told me her story:

She married young,.

Husband showed his true nature (psychopath/control freak/abuser) only after he had her completely at his mercy.

He kept her pregnant all the time, no birth control pills in those days.

She began to suffer health problems from diabetes & pregnancy-

she had 4 living children & 2 miscarriages due to toxemia.

When one child had a head injury one summer & this guy refused to allow him to be hospitalized, she had no choice but to quit her job, which made her completely dependent.

& then he divorced her.

He was a piece of work.

so.

She had lingering chronic health problems from the toxic pregnancies & from her diabetes, & the years went by.

During a trip to Colorado after her children were grown, she collapsed & was hospitalized.

The hospital was in an old building in which the windows could be opened.

I can't remember the terms she used, but the gist of the doctors' conversations that she overheard (when she was in a coma-they don't talk like this any more) was that she had used up all her physical resources & she was going to die.

She said that she found herself near the ceiling, looking at her body in that hospital bed, & she thought, "Poor Jo. She's had such a hard life. but now I'm up here, & there's no more pain, & the sun is shining outside the window, so I'm going."

She could see a silver thread connecting her to "Jo", as though she were a balloon, & it stretched as she drifted toward the window.

Just as she was about to get through the window, just about to snap that silver thread, she thought, "Have I done all my work?" & the answer popped into her mind, "No. Roseanne needs you."

& she found herself back in that bed, in that tired body...

& she lived, which astounded her doctors.

turned out...Her ex had attempted to rape their daughter Roseanne, Roseanne had tried to get her brother to help her, & her brother refused & blamed her.

Roseanne did indeed need her mother.

I read a thread on another forum in which a hospice nurse said that, when she first went into nursing, an older nurse told her to open a window for a dying patient.

I haven't had one personally. But my neighbor died in the condo next to me. She was dead inside for 2 months before her kids came over & found her. I don't believe she's crossed over & everyone in my condo row has experienced weird happenings. Many times I'll say "Mary, go to the light!" Things get moved or disappeared for a couple days. Lights & TV go off & on by themselves. I know the dogs can see her because I'll watch their faces and they are looking & following her with their heads while I see nothing.

My neighbors 2 kids saw her & were able to describe her. Which is physically impossible because she died before they were ever born. One would carry on conversations with her.

Pawprint, I've heard that children can see & hear phenomena that we can't, that most of us lose that perceptiveness as we grow up.

No, but I believe they occur. Every time we resuscitate a patient, I am cognizant that they are "watching". I talk to them, and say "Gary, c'mon you can do this" or some wording like that.

Yes...I believe I have. When I had my first knee surgery, my heart rate got extremely slow.... I heard one attendant say, " I don't agree with you just did"...and he said, "I had to...I was losing her!" Although I "know" I had to be asleep, I could see everyone in the room and I remember trying so hard to say, "I am still alive", but no words would come out.

i did not see the "bright light"...like I thought everyone who was going to heaven should see, but was not afraid.

I don't think I have had a NDE but have come pretty close a few times. During the last time I felt resigned that this was my fate and was willing to accept it. After that I felt very calm and peaceful. Wasn't meant to be I guess.

Another weird experience I had was a very serious car accident when I was 19. My Mom was driving and after stopping at a 4 way stop she started forward when we were broad side by a car out nowhere. They said he was going 70-80 MPH in a 25 MPH school zone. He was angry because his wife had just kicked him out. Funny how you remember things. We spun around a few times and was repeatedly hit. It was like the way they show it on TV, everything was in slow motion. And even though it probably only lasted a minute or so, it felt like it went on forever when I was going through it. Our poor 1966 red convertible Mustang was totaled. Now that hurt!

mamapinky: your story is amazing & really warm my heart .. so glad your daughter is safe. I read similar stories: One incident was about a grandpa being really fond of his grandson before the grandpa died. The Dad took his young son for swimming .. The Dad was supposed to watch out for his child, but he got distracted and was staring at a boat far away .. his son went down under the water, and Grandpa (deceased) whispered in the Dad's ear "watch out for .....". The Dad's eyes searched for his son, saw him going under, and dived in just in time to rescue his son from drowning.

Months after my husband died I was in a deep depression and could not even get out of bed. My oldest daughter called and said she was coming to get me and my youngest daughter and we would take my granddaughter who was about 18 months old to the Y so she and my youngest daughter could use the pool. I was sitting on a bench when my granddaughter kept saying to her Mom that she wanted to sit by grandpa. She kept repeating this as she made her way to the bench where I was sitting. This child was only 8 months old when my husband died and of course could not have remembered him. She "saw" him sitting next to me on that bench. She kept saying grandpa is by grandma and I want to sit with him. Gave me chills.

Saline_gw: That's very comforting to know ... When reading NDE's for my Pinterest collection, a woman shared about how depressed she was after her NDE .. she saw no purpose for living and asked God to help her ..right after praying she was able to see an energy "love grid" emanate from everyone which connects them to loved ones and guardian angels. Through that grid the love flows from beyond, and children can see that "love-grid" better than adults. Here's a past post from "Grieving forum" which gave me chills:

Couple of years back my sisters ex boyfriend who was probably still in love with her committed suicide...i didnt really care for him because he had issues and didnt handle their break up correctly...he would constantly prank call etc...i wanted to really give him a good smack...the day of his funeral my larents and sister went...i stayed home and went out with friends of mine to have some drinks...i came home about 3 am and went into my sisters room to mess with her as i usually would as a playful older drunk brother in my early 20s...as i opened her room door i saw her ex boyfriends spirit sitting at the edge of her bed looking at her...my jaw dropped...suddenly she awoke from her sleep and screamed...i told her go back to sleep and went to my room...i told his spirit he wasnt welcome here and to leave...the next morning i asked why she screamed...she told me she was dreaming about him and woke up to me standing there...i told her i saw his spirit vanish after she screamed and we both knew it was really him...i trip out how there are truely other dimensions of reality we rarely get a glimpse of." When my son was born, my heart stopped for 3 minutes. I watched the doctors and nurses work on me from above my body. I saw a bright light and had a feeling of complete peace, and could feel myself moving toward the light. Suddenly, I was back in my body, and remember a nurse telling me that they were afraid I was gone. Two months later, my husband died, and I will always believe that I was "sent back" so our son wouldn't be an orphan.

No near death experience but a message from above. I had been diagnosed with uterine cancer and had the surgery date set. We left the doctor's office, stopped for supper. It was a beautiful sunny Friday in September, no rain in sight. In the sky I saw a "strip" of a rainbow...straight up and down. Asked hubby to look and he saw it too. I do believe it was a sign, but it didn't register to me. On Tuesday I was in my craft room and all of a sudden a female voice that I did not recognize came into my mind. No lights, no moving air, just this beautiful voice saying "Everything will be all right, Linda". A calm, peaceful feeling came over me like nothing I've ever felt before. God got that message to me and I KNEW all would be all right. It was. I never told anyone...not my husband or minister or surgeon until "after" the surgery.

A few years ago now when I was having the GI issues and basically the doctor sent me home to die, and I nearly did. Saw the proverbial "white light" but survived and shocked the doctor. He called the next day, I think to see if I was alive. During a follow-up he said how worried he was about me. There's been another time or two also with different experiences including an out of body.

With many events though, including the one I mentioned above, I'm curious if it's basically a person simply hallucinating rather than an actual event. Hallucinations can seem SO real that people wouldn't really know the difference.

I have wondered that too cynic. it's just when there's something so specific and no way to possibly know it, that has me baffled. When those who can see things they couldn't have seen any other way because they were in another place, how do you account for it? It's hard to overcome that thought!

I've had an experience similar to lindaohnowga. One of our newborn twin grandsons was going to be having a full blood transfusion, a dangerous procedure, as his body was not able to produce red blood cells. We attempted to sleep the night before, but needless to say, we tossed and turned most of the night. At one point, while just laying there, I heard my late MIL'S voice...clear as day...saying "Jake will be ok." I remember feeling a distinct calm come over me, and when we went to the hospital to await the procedure, I was so calm and tried to explain to the rest of the family why I felt so reassured. Jake did just fine and he and his twin are about to celebrate their 11th birthday next week.

I've had other experiences as well.
