They stole a multi million dollar home

Instead of writing the whole nightmare of a story I'll include a link that has the story and a picture of the home. It is just a few miles from Memphis.

I cannot believe someone could so easily do this. They have been stopped, but the rightful owner still has a tough battle to fight. It's just wrong.

Incredible. I just hope and pray that those low-lifes don't trash the place before they're evicted.

Thanks Ethan, I've gotten to know the Hort director and a few others quite well in the last couple of years. I'm sure if there was something I wanted, I could get it. They had some seedling cacao's and were going to give me one but they were some of the casualties lost in their December fire they had in one of their greenhouses. They lost a bunch of plants and almost lost their ancient bonsai collection. I'm afraid I would live to see the day when the mangosteen reached the ceiling!

"Bad time to have a less than desirable house in a less than prime location..." Or even a nice house in a less than prime location! We've had two offers but one of them turned out to be pretty much a joke, and the other has a sales contingency with absolutely no sign of their house selling anytime soon. Up until that offer put a contingency tag on our listing and after we started mandating drive-bys before making appointments, we had pretty good traffic through the house, but it's dropped off drastically to maybe one a week instead of six or seven a week, sometimes two or three a day. What's a "5-4-doors"? A lot of what's in our (low) price range is split level; I think they're very unattractive so I would only consider it as a last resort. It would have to be a VERY good neighborhood! "Yup, I must agree about sellers being in denial & keep listing higher than 2005, rather than lower." We're priced at almost $50,000 less than our house was appraised for by an independent appraiser in 2005. Ouch. (Thank goodness we didn't take the full cash-out when we refinanced, like the bank was pressuring us to.) But, there's a repo across the road dragging us down; it has "issues" and is even closer to the highway than we are, but it is larger by 500sf, has one more bathroom than ours, and is $14k less. We simply can't afford to drop our price commensurately. And yeah, the keeping-the-house-perfect is a real drag... we went out yesterday and I said to hell with it, left the bed unmade and dishes in the sink. I just didn't care anymore right then. I have to go get vacuum cleaner bags today, we've gone through an entire package of them since Memorial Day!

"1) can you run 3 wire(with a ground) in a residential building to two separate circuits? EXAMPLE: Our dishwasher, and disposal are each on their own circuits, but share a common neutral..? Isnt that an unbalanced load?" Not a problem. It's called a multiwire branch circuit (MWBC) and, as D&K notes, the two hots have to be on opposite poles. The neutral only carries the imbalance of the currents on the opposite poles. Also, to be fully compliant with current code, an MWBC should use a common (i.e., two-pole) breaker. Previously, a handle tie was permitted and, before that, two independent breakers were allowed. "2) Can an arc fault breaker installed in bedrooms, also be hooked to lights? Both of my kids bedrooms share a 15 amp arc fault and their lights are on it too." Yes, this is legal. "3) Our bathrooms(all three of them), share a 20 amp circuit(the outlets), the first one has a GFI, but if you "test" it, all of them quit working, so it is a shared line." If newly installed, it wouldn't meet code to have three bathrooms on the same 20-amp circuit. However, your situation may be 'grandfathered', depending upon when the wiring was done. It's more a matter of capacity than imminent risk. That is, you'll probably trip a breaker if two hair dryers are used in two bathrooms simultaneously, etc.

The sheer audacity of some people never ceases to amaze me. I hope they are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Forgery, theft, trespass, what else can they charge them with? Man. They're really lucky this guy didn't flip out and just shoot 'em.

How could that happen? He would have to sign the deed over to them, unless they forged his signature. But how would they get access to his paperwork? Did he take out a loan and they slipped transfer of ownership into the pile and he didn't read what he signed? Did they work for the bank or title company? The article is not telling the full story.

Clare, they did forge his signature, but I don't know how they got the papers to do it.
There was just a smal blip about it on the news the other night and nothing after that. That's why I went to the web to try to find outmore. It's still rather vague. Makes me wonder what's up.

That's just awful,but it doesn't surprise me,as there are some pretty smart crooks out there.

Here in my area the crooks are driving around seeing homes that are up for foreclosure,breaking in,changing the locks and then listing them for rent on Craigs list,and swindling the unsuspected people out of thousands of dollars.They have caught 2 different groups of them in this last week.Hope they lock them up and throw away the key!!

That would be Grand Theft! Also Fraud; Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress; Conversion.

That's a crazy story! People never cease to amaze me.

I was just going to post what Kathi said. That's happening around here too. You have to keep and eye on who's strolling around your neighborhood.

What is happening around here is they are using empty houses to hide what they steal. A friend had 2 4-wheelers stolen. A couple weeks later a lady called to report some people at a vacate house down the road from her.. She could hear 4-wheelers. The cops came and they were gone but the 4-wheelers were there. They got a good discription of the guys plus a vehicle.

We have a house that is in foreclosuer next to us. I am constantly running people out. People will do anything these days. I think it will get worse before it ever gets better.
