Update. Virgin Mobile sent me instructions on how to reset my phone. The instructions they sent seemed to have fixed the problem! I am posting what worked for me in case someone else has the same issue. (Although my phone is not the LG Tribute, it worked for my LG Optimus.) " If you cannot access handset menus, a factory reset using the handset keys may be required. Please follow the instructions provided below to reset your LG Tribute: 1. Ensure the handset has at least a 50% charge. The handset must be powered off. Remove and re-insert the battery. 2. Hold the volume down + power keys several seconds. When Factory Reset Processing appears, stop holding down the keys. The Android system recovery screen appears with a green Android icon. 3. Use the volume keys to scroll to and select Wipe Data/Factory Reset. 4. Press the power key to select OK. 5. A script displays asking to confirm wipe of all user data. Scroll volume down key down to highlight Yes - Delete all user data. Press the power key. To cancel the process and not wipe the user data, highlight No, press the power key, select Reboot System Now and press the power key. No changes will be made. 6. After the software wipe, the phone returns to the recovery menu. The option reboot system now is highlighted. Press the Power key to reboot the handset."

you should have have a menu to go to,go to menu and find settings look for sound settings and scroll down on your phone til you find message alerts and you should be able to turn it off.If these are advertising alerts or telemarketers there is the new no call which also covers text messages.I will try and find the # and post it.Hope this helps.

I guess it all depends on how much you call from home versus away from home or on the road. We use pre-paid cellular. The new phones were free after rebate and my wife and I each spend about $5-$7/month for the STI Mobile/Sprint service. We only make quick 1-2 minute calls for necessary reasons and it works fine anywhere in the country that Sprint covers. Voice mail and text messaging are turned off on both cellular phones. Other cellular providers are now joining the pre-paid game with good deals. We are still stuck with the old telephone company for home and home office lines. I must have the reliability and quality of a landline for my business. I do pay too much for long distance, toll-free, and local service for my business compared to the low rates available today. Bills are typically $35-$50/month for relatively low volume usage. The last time I switched was from MCI to Ameritech(i.e. SBC/AT&T/who knows?) It was a pain to switch, but the new lower rates were good for a year before they went up again. Our home phone line just went up to $22/month for local phone service. It started at $18 several years ago. Pre-paid long distance service is $.025/minute using cards from companies like Cheap Phonecards. The latest cards don't require you to enter the pin every time from home and you can program the 800 access number into speed dial. The long distance cards are great from hotels too. We are seriously considering the switch to broadband phone service, but our local numbers are not yet portable for Vonage or the others. We are just outside of their large markets. Broadband cable internet is $30/month and speed is around 300K or 10 times faster than dial-up. It is fast enough for our needs. You don't need to "make sense" of them - you just need to see that in the set of two side-by-side pictures there are colors on the screens but in the two individual pictures, the screens are black. And, yes, my husband's Apple Watch has cellular capability, as well as Bluetooth and WiFi. But making/receiving calls and texts through the watch isn't the issue. It's the location of his phone and watch that's an issue. @maddielee - Yes, we've ensured that the "share my location" is turned on, on all of our devices. @Fun2BHere - No, cellular and WiFi are both turned on on all of the devices.
