Little boy hit by car today.....

Right in front of the place my daughter Carri works. She heard the tires screeching...Ran out there...There was a little boy (she thought about 8) laying there in the street. She went over and layed down in the street with him , talking to him until the ambulance came...(there were stopped cars and people standing around so the were not in danger of being run over)...The could not get his name or where he lived from him. He just kept saying he couldn't breath. She said he was pretty cut up.

He kept reaching up to her face.

She was really upset. I was at her house watching the grandkids when she called and you could hear her voice shaking.

We don't know who he is or how to find out how he is. Nothing in the news about him. They took him to an Omaha hospital.

Carol, interesting that your dad went through something similar. I think God allows those things to happen (and keeps us protected from harm within them) for a purpose--maybe to let us know a tiny fraction of what He protects us from each day so we know how loved we are, and how dependent we are, though we sometimes think we're self-sufficient. Maybe different people get different messages, too. Still, it's all good. Thanks for the added info on the peppers/acidity. I'm definitely trying the recipe you've just posted, and I think I'll go with the variation, since I like peaches better than mangoes, and I have so many of them! I'm also going to try something else, but I don't know if it will work. I like the flavor/texture of the uncooked freezer jam, but I want it spicy. I think I might put the cooked habanero/orange mixture from the "Cold Mornings" recipe in the fresh peach freezer-jam recipe and then freeze it. It may work, or it may flop, but if it flops, I think I'd still be able to use it as a glaze. We'll see! Thanks again for all your help!

Ok, I have been dying to tell a car guy this story. Please pass it on and see what he says. I have a picture of myself, sorry I don't have it to post, and my dad all dressed up back in 1972. I was 6 and it is my all-time favorite pic. He and I are standing next to the jeep we had. Well, we always called it the jeep. Well, recently my jeep loving husband looked at the picture closely. It is an original Toyota FJ. My dh said that at that moment my dad became the coolest man ever to him. I mean, he owned an original. So he called up dad to see what the story was. Turns out my dad bought it brand new!! Brand New I say! Now for the rest of the story. Mom made him trade it in for a crayola blue colored VEGA. A VEGA!! My dh said at that moment my dad literally lost his man-card. No longer will he be seen as the coolest man ever. So sad. I think my dh needs to take my dad 4xing in my dh's jeep wrangler rubicon and assure him that under no condition would he ever, and he would mean ever, allow me to make him give up the card! By the way, frame it!

Glad that it wasn't a bang on the driver's door, girl! Not long after I got this car, I thought that I went into an intersection on a green ... and a car that came through three lanes hit on the driver's side ... but back at the back tire area. I was ... substantially ... very substantially ... thankful! It seemed to be the general concensus that I'd run a red light ... but I figure that he ran a yellow, as when my car had been turned around about 180 degrees - there, staring at me through the windsheld, was a green light, in the same direction that I'd been travelling ... and if I'd run a red light, it should have been red! Anyway - I also like to pick spaces in parking lots where I can drive out (but must confess to being a bit too lazy/(mis-guided?) to back into empty spaces). I hear that a bit of a longer walk is good for one's constitution? By the way ... did you say that the grandkid is wanting a car? Hhm-mm-mm-m! Hope that the rest of your weekend goes better. I, too, value my wheels ... and one needs be extra careful around here, for if one in 70s or higher is in a fender-bender or two, one is liable to get a letter from the Ministry of Transportation to say that they are cancelling one's driving permit. We have a discussion session of about an hour and a half with about a dozen others, with a test of knowledge and signs, with some being selected for a driving test, every two years after age 80. ole joyful P.S. As I was fairly sure that there were still quite a few good miles in that little 20-year-old Mazda that I'd bought only a few months earlier, after the accident I chose to repair it, at a cost larger than I'd paid for it ... partly for environmental reasons, as it costs a great deal of scarce and precious fuel to dig iron ore from the ground, smelt it, then carry it through all of the manufacturing operations ... plus add quite a lot of petroleum-based plastic, to build a new one, but repair is mainly a lot of work. I don't carry wipes with me anymore, but we both get the antibiotic lotion when we get back to the car. I do that even after shopping at Walmart. The box is a big round papier mache one and it does have a lid. The original price tag had 29.99 on it so undoubtedly it had something inside. There was a graphic pasted on the outside that I removed since it was pretty beat up. I may try to replicate it in paint using it as a pattern or just try to find a Renee Mullins pattern to use on it most likely. There is a wire handle with metal stars and moons wired onto that so one of her bear patterns with the moon behind would probably look good. I think that would be a neat idea with the box. I usually find the little trees at the $1 store around Christmas. I hate it when I put something back and then think of the perfect use for it when I get home. ha But we can't buy everything....well not at once anyway. ha My DD's birthday is coming up on the 28th. They are really close in age. What did she have on her cake? Neleh switches between a princess cake to Tinkerbell to Scooby-Doo. She's gonna have to make up her mind soon. :) I have been so miserable today since lunch. I overate....like Thanksgiving overate... and I feel sick. I finished up my last 2 Mothers Day ribs, but I ate some good french bread with it and it just expanded to the point of misery. I took a nap even, but still not feeling well. Hope I'm not about to have another appendicitis attack. I have chronic appendicitis that sort of feels like this when it starts. I'm gonna go lay back down. DH will have to fend for the kids for supper. Oh, I was gonna tell you that I went to the nursery before lunch and I bought 2 fushia plants. I think they may be dwarf ones though. They are the purple and pink ones and they are called Tiny Tim. ~Anj

Hi Pattico,

Please pass on our thanks to your daughter for being there for that little boy and helping him in his hour of need.

In a discussion of driving the other day, I referred to the fact that driving is risky ... and that each time that we break the speed limit, or pass over solid or double yellow lines, we add to that risk for not only ourselves, but for others as well. Or on a curve or a hill ... or drive drunk ... or while talking on the phone (and to my mind there's little difference whether it's hands-free or hand-held: the problem is that one's concentration is partly focussed elsewhere, and in traffic it needs to be entirely on the driving).

We do not know whether there was violation of the traffic rules involved here ... but there is always risk, even when folks are careful to obey the traffic laws.

I ask all who read this ... always drive with great care, please. We never know when someone's limb ... or life itself ... may be at risk.

What a wonderful thing your DD did, just to lay by him to be with him, such comfort! You may not be able to find out how he is doing, but keep asking around..a friend of a friend bay know. I hope he does OK. Give her a hug for me, just being there for him made her his guardian angel!!

Oh Patti I hope the little boy will be ok!
I would try calling the police dept and asking how he is doing? They may know or know who she could contact.

How awful and I'm sure his Mom is thankful your DD was there!

What wonderful comfort this must have been to the little boy.

This remeinds me when my daughter first starting teaching. She taught in a very poor district. She dearly loved the children, some of the parents "NOT." One afternoon she was leaving school and heard tires squeal. She ran around the building and a little 10 year old girl was hit by a car. She ran to the girl while someone called 911. The mom lived just down the street and came runing. It wasn't long before the Dad came. Mom and dad just stood in the middle of the road yelling at each other. Our daughter felt so sorry for the little girl. Our daughter followed the ambulance to the hospital. They ended up making the parents leave the building until they decided to stop yelling. To this day the little girl always comes into our daughters classroom to see her. They have a special bond..

Your sweet daughter must have been a comfort to this little boy. So sweet of her. I hope this little boy will be okay. I can't imagine the horror of hitting someone while driving. The man who hit our daughter and killed her, never even said he was sorry. I just don't understand it.

Patti, have you found out anything on the little boy yet? Maybe try calling the University, or Creighton hospitals. Or call and ask who ever transported him if they've heard any update. I hope he's okay too.

What a nice thing your DD did. She could call the police and give them her name and phone # to give to the boy's parents. I am sure the parents would like to thank her for what she did.

Patti, that brought tears to my eyes picturing your daughter lying in the street comforting the little boy.
