Well, Now I have Done It!

I fell asleep and woke up with a leg cramp! Now I probably won't be able to get back to sleep forever! I may try to read and see if that helps. I hate when that happens. I hope the rest of you have a great night's sleep. Enjoy your Fourth of July. I sure plan on doing just that. I can hear fireworks already out this evening.

I have this problem sometimes - I just take two baby aspirins and I'm off to lala land in no time!

This sounds crazy but it really works.
Drink 3/4 cup dill pickle juice. I have not
had it fail yet.

When you have left it to drain on a flat surface for a while, before you put it back on its saucer - tilt the pot to let even more water escape - unless your pot has only one central hole. If you put some pebbles in the bottom of the saucer - half to one inch across for each - and place the pot on top of them - there will be improved drainage, plus better air circulation for the roots. So long as you don't have a small plant in a big pot (also known as 'over potting') then the mixture should dry out quite quickly. So long as the plant wasn't desperately dry before you watered, when its roots would have withered and be ready to rot, then one solid soaking won't cause disaster, as morz8 says.

Hi Phil, nice purchases there, it will be interesting to follow their progress. Where are you thinking of getting your pots from if you don't mind me asking? I find that the only type I have seen are the terracotta ones in garden centres that are not as deep as the regular plant pots we generally see, more like a half pot kind of thing. I did buy one of those oblong black ceramic bonsai pots a while ago with a matching shallow tray for one of my treasures, but I underestimated the size of the plant I had in mind for it and it was WAY too small. It's around 2x5inches, and cost over a fiver, so goodness knows what the big ones cost? Its still unused btw! I have seen little in the way of shallow planters, either plastic/terracotta/ceramic in my area that would be suitable for adeniums or any other plant come to think of it as bonsai stores are few and far between here in the sticks, in fact I have yet to see one, how about you? My poor lab is already stressing out over the fireworks.He is mostly deaf,except for really LOUD sounds like fireworks.We took him for a walk and gave him a benadryl.It will be a long weekend for him.Marilyn,I hope you can get some relief for your leg cramps,they are so painful.

If you can get quinine, it works wonders. Our doctors say they cannot prescribe it anymore. We still have some so I take one about every ten days and that takes care of it. I haven't tried, the bar of soap under the sheets, yet but my sister-in-law swears by it. Pat

I've been having neighbors with fireworks going every night for a solid week and they have some pretty good fireworks. We're not talking just bottle rockets and sparklers. It's over for the night. Oops heard a pop off in the distance, but that's nothing major. The cats have gotten so they're not interested anymore. The one who enjoys thunderstorms would run to the window when they started it earlier this week but she's gotten bored with it now.

When I have trouble sleeping and need to get some rest I do some breathing exercises, kick back in the recliner, turn on some soft relaxing music or a boring TV show and concentrate on relaxing or a boring thought. Especially effective when I put a blanket over me and get a little warmer than usual. Get warm=get sleepy. If nothing else I'm at least relaxed and get some rest so I'm not dead tired the next day.
