What Have I Done Now? MAME!

Years ago, on my old computer with W2K, I had some cool arcade games...Mame.

Today (Vista Home Premium), I did a search and found their official(?) website, which WOT said was Ã«xcellent, and MWB scanned as no probs.

I downloaded just 2 games from the hundreds, and suddenly got 72 icons on my desktop! I deleted them all individually, then emptied the Recycle Bin. Rebooted, and they were still on my desktop!

I created a folder "Rubbish", and dragged them all into it, then deleted the lot. Rebooted, and they all reappeared on my desktop icons. And they're still there!

Have updated and run MWB and SuperASP...clean.

Please, what can I do????

Created a restore point from well before, but they still appear...

Would be grateful for any help!

Sorry, everyone can go back to sleep now....think I've fluked the cure...went to program files, deleted all the offenders there, only to have some return under a different name!

Re-deleted those, and just to be sure, sprayed monitor screen with fly-spray, and seems to have done the trick!

you should reboot into safe mode and run all your scans again. Press F8 during reboot to get there.

All the fish died. I don't know if I will buy anymore. Is it possible to have a healthy pond with just plants? I got into trouble over winter. I removed all my plants because I figured they'd freeze and decompose into the water. I also stopped adding the bacteria stuff. The string algae had gotten pretty bad. Over the past 4 years, especially my first and second, my budget was SO tight. I only bought roses for less than $8, and bought many a grade #2. Honestly looking through my garden now, I can't tell the 1,s from the 1 1/2's from the 2's, and really don't remember or care which was which. I specifically remember two grade 2's I got from Orchard Supply - a Brides Dream, and a mismarked Pink Promise which ended up Pink Peace. They took a long time to mature, but they are both GORGEOUS now.

DD just burnt a pan the other night. She scoured it (before she told me) but it was still looking pretty bad. I put water and a couple of tablespoons of baking soda in the pan, let it boil for about 10 minutes, running a knife around the edges as it boiled. Then I rinsed and ran it through the dishwasher and it came out good as new, no scrubbing. Can't hurt to try--good luck.

Hi Phil, nice purchases there, it will be interesting to follow their progress. Where are you thinking of getting your pots from if you don't mind me asking? I find that the only type I have seen are the terracotta ones in garden centres that are not as deep as the regular plant pots we generally see, more like a half pot kind of thing. I did buy one of those oblong black ceramic bonsai pots a while ago with a matching shallow tray for one of my treasures, but I underestimated the size of the plant I had in mind for it and it was WAY too small. It's around 2x5inches, and cost over a fiver, so goodness knows what the big ones cost? Its still unused btw! I have seen little in the way of shallow planters, either plastic/terracotta/ceramic in my area that would be suitable for adeniums or any other plant come to think of it as bonsai stores are few and far between here in the sticks, in fact I have yet to see one, how about you? wow shax that would be a site to avoid, I would definitely comment on that at the wot rating site for that download site you used, that is how wot finds out when a site is bad.

that is extremely excessive junk you ended up with. I am surprised they were still there with the system restore to before you did the install.

You can also use REVO uninstaller if you find you still have problems with any of them. I think I would run malwarebytes a few more times after updating it just to make sure.

When you did your deletions, did you actually go into the Control Panel and uninstall these programs properly using the "Programs and Features" folder, or did you just right click on stuff and delete? If you did the latter, that can leave a lot of junk on your computer. The best way to approach a situation like this is to use Windows' uninstall capability, and then remove any residual icons and pieces of program files (if there are any) by right-clicking and deleting.

Kudzu...just highlighted and deleted in the Program Files.

I did find them there by doing a "Search" using the word "Mame". Couldn't find anything listed in the Control Panel/Uninstall, nor in Revo. When I deleted them, they reappeared under a different name, so I repeated the delete. I think it put about 270 files in my Recycle Bin.

Will take everybody's advice and reboot in Safe, run scans again, and run MWB several times....

Just updated MWB and ran 2 scans...one in "Safe"....all clear!
Appreciate everyone's help!

Just incidentally, I noticed in Revo that I have both Java 6 Update 15 and Java 6 Update 7. Should I get rid of the 7?

Yes, you want only the latest update.

Hereafter, the older versions will be uninstalled when you do the updates. All those prior to update 10 had to be manually uninstalled.

Running Malwarebytes in safe mode defeats some of the search features. It is designed to run in Windows under normal mode, this was posted on the Malwarebyrtes forum in the past few days actually. No harm done of course. Superantispyware would benefit from running in safe mode perhaps.

Owbist...Thanks...I did run MWB in both normal, then Safe modes, straight after each other, with same good result!

Will now run SASpy in safe mode...will also be running both daily for few days...can never be too sure!

I also have Avast, Scotty the pup and Spywareblaster all doing overtime...
