Music? Anyone else hear it?

Okay, maybe I am losing my mind, but every so often when I am on Gardenweb I start hearing music on my computer. It is instrumental, kind of catchy but odd. Not rock or classical or country. It sounds just slightly electronic, if you know what I mean.

I close all my open tabs one by one and it only stops when I close GW, or even switch from one forum to another.

Anyone else??

Not only am I getting music today (first time), I'm getting a repeated notice on both Home and Garden forums that I've opened that Norton 360 has blocked Cool Exploit Kit Website, risk High.....every forum. IE and Firefox, doesn't matter if I change back and forth.

Bluegirl, that's a good point about adjusting to whatever your experience says is normal - like traffic noises or train sounds if you live near their passages, or heat in a Nevada summer, or cold in a Minnesota winter. It's just what you expect and we build positive associations with it for the pleasant events that happen in that period. As a relative outsider to cicadas, the negative associations have gotten firmly established before any positive ones could set in. Tammy and MG have plenty of their own negative experiences too, and if they start laying eggs in my rose canes we'll definitely move them into my mental "bad bug" category. Of course, I'm not big on loud repetitive uncontrollable sounds anyway - having lived in landlocked places all my life I find the sounds of ocean waves to be slightly disturbing and annoying, though not to the same extent. I'd way rather listen to crickets chirping than a tape of ocean sounds during "deep relaxation" parts of yoga class, but I realize I'm in the minority here. So, Michael, if these chirping sounds are all mating behaviors, does that mean that crickets and grasshoppers are just more, um, horny than other bugs, or is it that they have quicker life cycles and we're hearing new generations of cricket males like perpetual teenagers desperate for a date on Saturday night? You'd think if the same old thing didn't get results last night, they'd give up or try something new, but I guess that doesn't apply to teenagers either... Cynthia

Did we ever know her real name? That's the sad thing about these forums....the user names. If something happens to someone, there's no way of knowing. I was just thinking of starting a Facebook group for all of us junkies. But I just found one....only a few members. I'm joining. Now that us pros have lost our anonymity, we are easy to keep track of. If that other group is defunct, I can start a new one?

I was very familiar to the Mockingbird song but had never heard the Rocking Bird song that I can remember. I remember Dina Shore's version of Mockingbird. I have nothing more to add in to this theme, but if someone else wants to start Part II, they are welcome to do it. I just cannot think of any more songs!

Yes! I thought I was going crazy! No other problems, tho. The music started up when I was posting a reply on another forum, AWFUL! Went away when that window was no longer active. I have several windows open at once usually, and the music stopped when I went to another window.

I hope it never comes back! I despise websites that start playing video/audio without a prompt and I will not patronize those.

must be from one of the ads on the page. I hear and see no ads with Firefox and ad block plus with the easy list. It's not uncommon for malware to be in some exploited ads so definitely pay attention to the warning by the AV, it's doing it's job protecting you.

I'm not hearing music but I've gotten two warnings about a GW threat. I sent the image below to GardenWeb earlier today.

Yeah, I heard it yesterday. At first, I thought it happened when my cusor swept accross a rogue ad, but then maybe not. It was a rogue event of some sort, and I was not a happy camper. Tiwice, I closed the Garden Web window to get rid of it.

Anyway, it appears to be gone today. Happy riddance.

I don't, but then I never have my speakers on. LOL I only turn them on when I'm watching something I want to hear.

Oh! If it is an ad..... well, I don't get any of those.

I never have my speakers on either, just to watch a youtube or something - honestly I'm still cracking up over those Jeanne Robertson youtubes :)

It is NOT an ad. I have FF and AdBlock Plus and see no ads at all, but I got the music.

Oh thank heavens I am not the only one. I use Firefox with Ad Block so I never see an ad, but maybe the music makes it through somehow? I don't know.

Hmm, maybe I'll log in via IE and see if I can locate the offending ad, although it doesn't sound at all like the kind of music used in an ad.

I often have my speakers turned off, but turn them on to listen to some videos, and then forget to turn them off again.

Next time I hear the music I will take more careful note of where I am and what I'm doing -- on the computer, I mean, not in real life!

be sure you have updated to the latest version of Java that post shows it is a java threat.
That is the most common way to infect these days on websites.
I totally removed java from all of my computers and have not missed it. If you have it still on yours update it asap and check weekly for new updates that is about how fast they have to update it for new problems.

Anytime your AV warns you here you should definitely send that warning to GW so they know about it.

I also got a notice from Avg that it blocked a threat while I was on the KT site the other day. I think it was the same one, I know that there was "Exploit" in the title. I'll be notifying the Garden Web.

Gulp, I've been ignoring pop-ups that say to update Java. Guess I better do that.

java and Adobe and flash are extremely important to keep updated they are some of the most used exploited methods of infection these days, just as important as doing your windows updates.
If you have Avast as your AV it now contains a section that will help you keep these updated so take advantage of that.
Firefox now has the ability to tell you what plugins need updating, use it if you use Firefox.
There's other sites that offer help in determining whether you have updates needed. Secunia OSI and PSI are good choices.
