Our garden has been a little slow this year. We have not had a tomato yet, but the birds are enjoying them. I have just started picking cucumbers. We pulled the onions over the weekend. Peppers are slow but coming. Squash is going crazy especially the zuchinni. We only planted one plant of each.

I was hoping you weren't calling me! LOL

Our garden started out okay, but the heat and drought was too much. Jammer was working late hours and not home every night and I didn't feel like going out to water. We harvested lots and lots of tomatoes, some sweet corn, a few squash. Our cucumbers produced 3 and then the plants all died. Our okra didn't do much either. The green beans died before they could produce. I think we have a few cucumbers that haven't ripened yet, but it has just been too hot and dry this year.

Weeds called "Lambs' Quarters" for greens.

And shared some with a couple of churches.

We don't have a garden, but we do have some fruit trees in the backyard. We have had tons of apricots, and now the peaches and nectarines are going crazy.

Tree-ripened fruit is the best!

Mesclun lettuce mix is all so far. But we have 9 tomato plants and expect lots of tomatoes later this summer. I already have a good recipe in mind-sliced tomatoes and onions, cheese, bread crumbs and butter baked in the oven. I'm so hungry I think I'll make a grilled cheese and tomato sandwich right now. Yum!

Harvest??? I'm happy to have plants just producing leaves!

Seriously, it's a little early to be harvesting anything here, except for some lettuce, perhaps, which I should have planted earlier than I did. But I'm excited about my vegetables because except for some squash and tomatoes last year these are the first I've grown since Joe and I had to give up the huge vegetable garden we grew for more than 30 years.

Soooo . . . I planted lots of yellow crookneck squash, two kinds of zucchini, two kinds of cucumbers, and three kinds of green beans.

My "wild and crazy bean experiment" involves my all-time favorite Kentucky Wonder pole beans growing on two stacked tomato cages with string dangling from them to start the vines climbing. My DS shook his head in disbelief when he saw this, but those beans are climbing!

I hadn't planned to grow tomatoes this year because I know they increase my joint pain (along with peppers), but after the salmonella scare emerged I thought I should plant some for the kids, at least. So I have three in containers: two Bush Goliath and one Black Cherry. The BC was a gift and will probably get eight feet high and destroy its cage. This should be interesting.

Also in containers are Vivian lettuce (a huge romaine) and Swiss chard.

OHHHH- my dad is the okra king! They still have a freezer full from last year (four generations of the family also have freezers full from his garden). He planted more this year and they are already swamped- last year he picked 30+ pounds in less than a week- the garden is only the size of a standard bedroom!

Most of his other veggies don't do well but that okra LOVES the GA red clay!

I picked my first tomato this morning and I'm having it for lunch! Since I don't have a lot of room I just have tomatoes and my favorite herb, rosemary.

Just one roma tomato bush. I was too lazy to put a cage over it, so it has sprawled all over the ground, but has lots of tomatoes. Hope I get to harvest a few before the bush collapses on itself.

I can do that . . . if you promise not to laugh. (It's not as funny as my haircut, but still . . . )

So far, about 25 sugar snap peas and one cherry tomato, along with 4 red plums. The tomatoes are putting on fruit though. The peas were very disappointing. The plums are exciting for us, usually a critter gets them all right about now, but we picked a few today.

Okay, so you made one of those silent promises. I can live with that. Here's my wild and crazy experiment. I tied the two cages together with rag strips. Can you see the vines? They are growing!!

I've tried to talk DH into growing pole beans but he won't. *sigh* I hate squatting/stooping to pick green beans.
