I'm reading another Ruth Rendell mystery. I'm so hooked on her it's about all I've read lately.

I recently listened to Boom by Tom Brokaw and Same Kind of Different As Me. Both were excellent!

I have about 20 more pages in The Bookman's Promise by John Dunning. My BIL turned me onto Dunning and this is the 2nd of his that I've read. They make me want to be a bookman!

It seems that I have lots of time now that I'm not working, but it is harder for me to read. I am enjoying the audio books much more than I expected. I just bought the CDs for The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova and Sea Glass by Anita Shreve. And as we speak I am downloading the book Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen from ITunes.

I have a Robert B. Parker mystery, Stranger in Paradise, in my car CD player, and I'm reading Plot and Structure to add to my knowledge about novel writing.

Mary Ann, I am going to Des Moines tomorrow for a medical appointment and hope to run by our library here before I go. I am going to look for some Tom Brokaw books and Same Kind of Different As Me.

I am about half way through "Clapton" by Eric Clapton....very interesting autobiography. I had a list of about 10 books that I have been wanting to get. I found all of them and about 10 more on ebay. I have plenty of summer reading!

I just finished "The Fifth Vial" by Michael Palmer (a medical thriller) - fantastic book! Most of his books are great.

Just started "Three Shirt Deal" by Stephen J. Cannell. I've only finished the first chapter, so I don't have an opinion on it yet. But most of his books are good.

I am reading Fair Game, My life as a Spy, My Betrayal by the White House. It is written by Valerie Plame Wilson and it too political to tell more about the book here. (Title says most of it.)

I am actually reading "Jane Eyre."
My oldest DS will be a sophomore this fall and is required to read it this summer for his Honors Lit class. He's not happy about that, since he is being placed in Honor Lit per my request. LOL. So the least I can do is read the book, too. This is my "Repent Read." I was an English education major, this is a book I was supposed to have read in the past (it's been on my bookshelf as long as I can remember), but didn't. Thus, I'm repenting.

After I finish, I will read the other required novel, "The Once and Future King." DS has just finished that one, we will trade. Since I got him into this, I promised to share in his "suffering" (though he rolls his eyes b/c he knows it's not suffering for me). If I haven't already read it, I will read every novel assigned to him this year. I'm answering the study questions, too. LOL. I'm not giving him my answers, just working out of sympathy.

Sorry, kiddo, but that A in 9th grade lit just came way too easy (must have my genes LOL). You're gonna have to work harder for it this year. ;o)

i'm missing my reading...turned in my last round of books at the library and didn't get anymore cause I'm WAIST deep in painting...if I have books around, I want to lay around and read and I've got three painting projects to finish before August 1!!

I'm reading a Maria Montessori book. Can you tell I teach preschool???

I've taken on a 'massive' reading assignment this summer. Had only read Book Seven of the Harry Potter series once--when it came out last summer. I'd been wanting to go back and read the whole series over, now that I know what we all found out in Book Seven.

It's been like reading them again, for the first time (even though I'd read most of the previous books 3-4-5 or more times already). They have a totally different complexion, now that we know how things work out in the end. So far, I'm up to Book 5.

I've read three or four books in the past month, that's slow for me. I just finished Fern Michael's latest paperback for the Sisters just last week .. can't remember the name tho, because I'm at work and it's at home.

So now I've started Someday Soon by Debbie Macomber. And then I have a murder/mystery sitting on the kitchen table waiting for me when this is done (probably by the weekend).

I am reading the Stuart Woods series of Stone Barrington books. I read them all before, but wanted to read them in order . I am on Swimming to Catalina. There are 9 more to go.

I dug out a couple of my older 'nature' books over the weekend. The last couple of days I have been rereading for the umpteenth time Stokes Guide to Enjoying Wildflowers. Not exactly 'riveting' reading for most, but I enjoy getting to the nitty gritty of their sex lives and who/what all they entertain. Helps to give me a little more control in the flower beds.

For a change I'm reading one of my own books instead of a library book. It's called "The Magnificent Dream" by Day Taylor, about Mormons & others going from the east coast to California, one group by ship, the other by wagon train. The characters are written so well & so far it's a very enjoyable book. Only problem is, the paperback is about 25 yrs. old & kind of falling apart on me, even tho I've taped it up. :-)

I told my Son that the book I finished at his house was "sooo good." He laughed and said that I say that about almost every book I read. I guess it's cause I choose them carefully. LOL

Anyhoo, the book is called "The Unused World" by Haven Kimmel. I truly enjoyed it. Hated to see the last page appear because I felt like I knew the characters personally.

Mammie, I looked for your book at Amazon and found one titled The Used World. Is that the one you read? All her books are rated very high at Amazon and sound like something I would enjoy reading. I looked for a list of books in the order they were written so I could read them in order, but haven't found one yet. I went to Haven Kimmel's website, but for some reason it kept freezing my computer. I have high speed wireless and this never happens to me! So I really don't want to go back to her site! Do you know the oprder of her books?

I recently finished "In Justice" by David Iglesias. He was one of the fired US Attorneys. Very interesting reading.

Yesterday I finished "Bones to Ashes" by Kathy Reichs.

Now I'm reading "Break no Bones" by Kathy Reichs.

I love summer!

I've been reading The Pact by Jodi Picoult, it's very good, and then I'm going to start James Patterson's Sail. Has anyone read that one?

I have been reading and re-reading some of the classics: The Bell Jar; To Kill A Mockingbird; Catcher In The Rye; The Great Gatsby. Also just finished Three Daughters, Clapton, and Audition (BaBa WaWa autobiography).

Some were interesting, none really knocked my socks off, well maybe Mockingbird. Guess I'm not in the mood for what I've been picking out lately. Checked out a book on Mrs. Roosevelt written by her grandson, didn't even get through the second chapter....hmmmm, not sure what's going on.

Going on vacation in August and need a good beach read...

wonder if the fern michaels is hocus pocus?

i got on a "old" kick and read several eliz lowell books she'd written in the late 90's...pretty much formula but quick reads...(and i have them, lol)

i have an iris johansen in the office and an older fern michaels in the bedroom...

like to have all my reading nooks covered, lol...

I'm still reading the Sue Grafton/Kinsey Millhone series. I finished I is for Innocent and have the books bought ahead up to O I believe. I am so glad I started these, so many peeps here had posted about them I had to try the first A is for Alibi and by gosh I was hooked!
For a switch I started a few paperbacks I'd bought at the city wide sales this spring. One I'd already read! (hate when that happens!) One didn't look as good as I thought it did when I bought it and so now I am in the middle of one by Diana Palmer, Secret Agent Man. Its good.

I am hooked on Beverly Lewis and Wanda Brunstetter books. Have read them all and can't wait until I get the newest one next week......

Just finished The daughters of Juarez by Teresa Rodriguez - true crime story of serial murder in Mexico - reccommended by a book buddy of mine and most interesting, I'm now almost finished another of a series of books written Jane Austen style (if you like Jane A., try one of the books written by Elizabeth Aston). The one I'm almost done is called "The Darcy Connection". I've enjoyed Aston's books and would say give them a try for anyone else who loves Austen. Then also in the process of reading pile are: Consuelo and Alva Vanderbilt by Amanda Stuart (an interesting read thus far), King, Kaiser, Tsar by Catrine Clay (another bio but a good rendering of the triangle between these powerful cousins)and finally just began "All the way Home" by David Giffels - I don't know what attracted me to this book, maybe the love of rebuilding falling down old houses and all the trials and problems solved with great industry and little expense. I formally only read one book at a time but now I find I have several on the go at all times just so I have a choice of what I'm in the mood for reading. DH who is a somewhat more picky reader finished "A spy at the heart of the third reich" by Lucas Delattre last night and said it was interesting but rather long winded in parts. Like most of you, I have a pile of reading to wade through and yet more books on request at the local library......so many books so little time - the story of my life. Budster.

Budster, have you read Darcy's Story by Janet Aylmer, a Jane Austen wannabe. Darcy's Story is what you might expect, Pride and Prejudice from Darcy's perspective.

I haven't had much time to read in recent weeks but when I do, I have been reading a book Flamey suggested. It's called The Buenos Aires Broken Hearts Club by Jessica Morrison. I'm about halfway through and really enjoying it. Love Morrison's writing style.

Finding Your Own North Star by Martha Beck. I just love it. Also, You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay.

I have the Buenos Aires Broken Hearts Club book and am half way through it and have put it down and read two or three other books since then.

"Water for Elephants", by Sara Gruen. I just started erading it, but so far it's pretty darn entrancing.

Hooked on Kathy Reichs! Also just finished "Never Fear" by Scott Frost. Really good read..lots of twists and turns.
