Up here in Comox Valley, Vancouver Island, the temperature hit 130F today. Our a/c just can't keep up with this heat.

This has to be the hottest summer that I can ever remember, and that's too many ~ lol.

Our water is now being rationed also.

It's not that hot here but oh boy, the humidity! AND, my AC is not working. It's only in the 80s -90s but the humidity is about 70-80 percent. I just keep saying, hang in there - it will be 20s in a couple of months.

uuuh, I'm not even going to address 130F. That's just too much to think about right now.

Last week it was 118 in Waterford Calif.2 of my GK's live there and they said you can't even go out in that heat,just stay in in the AC.

when we lived in bothell wa, we didn't have ac at all... bet if we were still there, it would be downstairs...

My 88-year-old mom in Portland had a dr. appointment today and decided to take the elderly transit (can't think of the name!) for which I am grateful. She said that just inside the door of Kaiser they had ice water sitting out which I thought was great. If her power goes out she's in deep do-do, but I guess there are cooling places the city is sponsoring, right? I know Ptld often has hot spells during the summer as I grew up there, but man, this is something else!

Hope it cools down soon and don't forget to drink either gatorade or power aid and mix it with water. Juices are good too. Wet towels on the back of the neck.

Whidbey Island and it's hot here too! The news keeps saying we are the "cool spot" Apparently they are talking about inside WalMart! They said 75 was our high! ROTFL!
Very few peole have AC here! It was 90 inside at dinner time, now it's cooled down to 87, and it's actually cooler outside than in! The BAD news is tomorrow is supposed to be even HOTTER!!

100 degrees... no shade on house, no air conditioning! 100 in the tv roomlast night.. tonight? blech!
supossed to watch ds's baseball games tomorrow and thursday.. it's supposed to be hotter than that tomorrow.. hot weather sucks.

My kids are in Eugene, and it hit 106 there yesterday. WAY too hot for the Willamette Valley. I sure hope it cools off a lot before I go to visit in late August.

Ugh, it's unbearable. I've been in temps over 100 before, but almost nobody in Seattle has air conditioning, so it's nightmarishly hot everywhere you go. Today is going to be even worse, over 100.

We slept in the backyard in a tent last night because sleeping in the house was not even an option.

The PNW is not suppose to be HOT! I don't do HOT!
Suppose to be 101 today.....yuck! Our theromostat on the deck in the shade says 90 right now. No AC here in most homes....we generally don't need it.We have 2 windows across from each other in our bedroom with window fans in both.... they create enough cooling at night that we have been able to sleep so far.
YUCK! I want cooler temps and rain! I am a native NWer and NEVER complain about the rain.....never

That is really unusual for the PNW. I grew up in Portland, and don't ever remember it that hot. And of course we didn't have air either. If you have air in your car, think about maybe taking a run around town to cool off, but that might make it seems even hotter.

There was a couple of weeks here in Texas that we had 100+ temps, and it was miserable WITH air conditioning. I got in my car one day last week, and it was so hot the chain on my neck burnt me.

Remember yesterday I wondered where they took the temperatures? Todays paper explains it!

"Monday at noon, a bank sign on Midway Boulevard in Oak Harbor said it was 84 degrees. But according to the National Weather Service, the temperature in the city was a mere 66 degrees.
It's an odd phenomenon that hasn't gone undetected. North Whidbey resident Glenn Eckard noticed that "Seattle weatherpeople" regularly report temperatures in Oak Harbor 10 or 20 degree below what residents are experiencing. He surmised, tongue firmly in cheek, that there must be an ice cave somewhere in the city.

"I've asked a couple of them where's the cave but they won't tell me," he wrote in an email to the News-Times. "Could you find out and let me know?"
Doug McDonnal, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Seattle, isn't aware of any hidden ice caves, but he knows that temperatures in Oak Harbor are usually reported to be lower than surrounding communities.

"We certainly notice that Oak Harbor always stands out as one of the cool spots in Western Washington," he said.

McDonnal said the reason is probably due to the thermometer location, which is on Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. More than likely, he said, it's exposed to cool marine air.

Petty Officer Amy Sexton with the Navy's aviation weather department said the automated weather sensor is, indeed, located near the water, at the end of a runway. She said a breeze off the water keeps the whole area cool."

Even if for some reason temps did reach 130°F somewhere, the surrounding area would certainly be in the 120° range or even in the teens and it is not.

MAN!! I am grumpy we will be in Portland on vaca starting the 5th~~I knew it might be a bit warm but was hoping at least cooler than So Cal!

Nope ~ 130F not a typo. Right now it's almost 6:00 pm here, and the thermometer reads 128F!

The high for Vancouver Island yesterday was 106 F. Today's high was a bit lower. Justlinda your thermometer is broken.

I don't think I should have to justify the temperature on the outside thermometer. You gals can believe what you will.

The sheltered thermometer lives in the sun...and that is/was the correct temperature. The thermometer isn't broken, either!

And we've been having a strange, cool July..Today it was in the 70's again and the 50's last night.

No way. It the air temp at 6PM was 128F the soil temps would have most likely reached the sterilization point, and it would be a recorded disaster. It would be in the news. It is not.

Kathy, here is the link to King5 and OHE's roof top weather station. It's on the corner of Midway and Whidbey Ave. High there today. 97F.

Most stations get readings from NAS Whidbey Ault Field location. Almost always atleast 10 degrees cooler than any where else on North End. Sometimes more..

I personally have a window AC unit, we got it a few years back the last time we had a 90+ heatwave. It goes in our center living room window and makes everything much more bearable...right now I have the windows open and the fans going. It's turned off for bed time.

I have to agree that Justlinda's thermometer is broken.

I was living in Phoenix on June 26, 1990 doing outside sales when the temperature hit 122 degrees. The city stopped moving. The birds stopped chirping. The asphalt was melting under your feet.Planes were grounded.People died.

It was eerie. We made National news for days. It was a huge story.

130 degrees would definately make national news.

According to this weather report it was 32 C which would be 89.6. Hot for that part of the world I'm sure but not 130 degrees worth of hot.

I was in South Dakota when they broke a record and had 120F. It made national news.

You can't even breath the air without it doing damage to the body. Sucking in 120F air into a 98F body heats it up fast. The roads get soft. Touching something metal that has been out in the sun, like a gas pump handle, burns the hands, and you can't even hold it.

Linda, "us gals" think your thermometer is broke.

Ladies, let me ask you one question: do you think all this nit-picking over whether my thermometer is broken (or not), or whether the temperature (mind you I never said AIR temperature) was correct (or not) is really going to have an impact at any point in the future? I really think not!

Linda, I feel for you. I managed to escape the heat here in Oklahoma (in early July, 100+ temps) during my bike ride in Colorado.

Right now, we have unbelievable cool temps, at almost noon still only 77 degrees.

But hold on, next week we are going back in to the mid to upper 90's.

Thanks for the advice Moni...as a matter of fact, the mercury was up to the top of the guage on the thermometer and we were ready to disconnect it (it's one of those indoor/outdoor kinds) for fear of the glass breaking! Not sure how or if that ever happens ~ it's never been a problem up here...lol. But we have moved it to the shadier part of the patio.

Just heard that these temps are supposed to continue up here for about another week....
