Without a doubt - 100% beef hotdogs, charred!!!!

If *I* cook it, a Porterhouse steak, (followed closely by burgers) if most anyone else is cooking, bratwurst or grilled ham. It should be accompanied by a baked potato or two. AFAIC a grill makes the best baked potato. Good crispy skin. Then you eat the potato, put a little butter into the skin and eat the skin separate. Course sometimes just eat it together.

CMK, that is interesting about eggplant liking pots. I started planting a salad garden in pots and window boxes on my back deck a few years ago. I didn't really think about eggplant though. I'll have to try it this year. I find that leaf lettuce does very well in window boxes. I also grow baby cukes in pots and let them trail down the deck railings. I've also done peppers and tomatoes in pots. I mix in a few small pots of nicotiana (not near the tomatoes...does that really cause problems?? i've heard they should not be combined) so the hummingbirds come to feed. Woodyoak, how deep are the windowboxes you use to grow carrots? And which carrots do you choose to grow in them? I've been seeing more pictures of large pots in amongst plants in the garden and I think I may try to experiment more with that. Does anyone have pictures of pots fully incorporated into their perennial/shrub borders as a focal point? Also, does everyone in wintry climates bring their pots inside in the winter? Has anyone found a type of pot that does not crack with the freeze/thaw cycles of winter?

Here is my list - - Additional blocking in the framing stage to accomodate grab bars, towel bars etc. Additional blocking being the slidebar of the shower also makes it sturdier to use as a grab bar. - Kerdi board for waterproofing - Heated wires throughout the floor including the shower area - Tall niches with shelves sized to fit the costco sized bottles - Tile that is not too slippery for the floor. Also used epoxy grout to make future maintenance easier. - frameless shower doors - we did pay a couple hundred dollars extra for the really clear glass - U-groove frameless - One of the bathrooms is curbless to accomodate access issues. Has nice looking grab bars and a folding teak shower seat that is ADA rated to 400lbs. - LED cans (california code) - Elongated Toto skirted toilets with sanigloss to make the cleaning easier - the special lutron switches where the fans stay on an extra 20 mins to clear all the steam. we used them with panasonic fans which are much much quieter than what we had in the past - wall mounted heated towel rods - hooks instead of towel bars.. I just preferred the more streamlined look of hooks - plug outlets inside the vanity to charge things. - wheeled laundry basket with divers to sort laundry has a niche to be tucked in. - separate toilet stall with a door. We did not do comfort height as we are not overly tall people. Elongated toto toilets with an integrated skirt to make cleaning easier and a GFCI outlet to plug in a washlet. - paper towel holder from Moen that doubles as a grab bar in the ADA bathroom. - accomodated for daylight (skylight or a window) in both the bathrooms to help people to wake up in the morning.. I love the daylight. - radio for listening in the morning. We are big public radio fans - wall mounted lighted makeup mirror - mirror defogger to prevent the mirror from getting steamed up.. - vac pan at the floor level that connects to our central vac system to make daily cleanups a breeze. I am picky about hair on the floor - solid core doors to prevent bathroom noises from being heard outside. I often have to get ready before dawn and the shower noise wakes DH up. - recirculating pump for our tankless to avoid warm water delays. Ours is integrated into the tankless. - Hansgrohe ibox to get the thermostatic control to preset the preferred temprature - Ebbe integrated drain that has a hidden hair snare. - Handheld shower with a longer hose to make it easier to clean the walls. - rain shower on a longer arm so that you can stand away from the wall.

Grilling eggplant - what is your favorite way?

I usually do it in the oven, but I do the same thing for outdoors. I used to salt the eggplant, since I was taught that way, but I find that if you have a good firm eggplant that sounds hollow when you thump it, but still has a nice dark skin, you don't get enough joy from salting and squeezing and draining and all of that to make it worthwhile. If it's softer, I'll just flame or broil the heck out of it (fork the skin all over first to vent the steam, until it's all charry and sunken floppy and roasty toasty goodness. For grilling, I think firm eggplant works a lot better, but it takes a long time to cook and you have to be patient. I slice 1/2-3/4", and put my seasoning (sometimes with dried herbs) into a little oil in a bowl or pie plate and coat. You can just brush or spray. I find my way easier, if messier, but it's important to have enough oil that it doesn't stick, but don't leave it sit in oil or it'll soak it up. I guess what I do is more like the motion of dregging. Just kind of swing it through and make sure it's coated. It's also important to leave it on long enough, like meat, so that the bits that touch are caramelized and it releases. Anyway, once coated, onto the grill or grill pan. I know there's a new school of thought for eating eggplant firm. If you're in that camp, salting might help you. It's at its yummiest, however, when it's mushy and looks like snot. The slices should evaporate well on the grill (which is so much easier than trying to get them to weep!!), and shrink. If you want them to remain slices, however, it's important to get them off before they turn into goo and fall into the fire. Cooked through, but still with some internal integrity. Otherwise, you could have just roasted them whole. For skinny Japanese or Italian eggplants, I also cut them into spears--they do have to be skinny though, because you want skin on each spear. Then oiled the same way but with stronger seasonings (not essential, just what I do), and a little lighter on the oil, though maybe a little extra on the skin side. Seasoning may be garlic pepper, or herbs and citrus, or sumac (or zataar which has a lot of sumac in it). Grill/roast the spears skin side down until the flesh is all shrivelled up. OMG!! Most yummiest ever. You need to do a lot of them, though, because they tend to disappear. They're also good cold, so don't count on any left for another purpose. :) Have fun! The only wrong way to do eggplant, really, is undercooked. Then it's disgusting.

When smoking pork ribs or butts, I regularly make one of these sides to put under the pork for the last couple hours of cooking. The porky goodness drips onto them and adds some ridiculous flavor on top of the smoke. Keri's Hog-Apple Baked Beans Potatoes Au Gratin I just made those very beans this weekend along with a beef brisket, burnt ends, and corn on the cob all on the grill. I leave my corn in the husk, but remove the silk and let them soak in water with a little sugar for about an hour. Then just cook until there's a slight char on the husk and the kernels darken a bit. I have in the past used that same grilled corn to make this Mexican Street Corn Salad which I am obsessed with. For steaks, I pretty much exclusively do the reverse sear method. I almost always use ribeye and the reverse sear is perfect on a ribeye as it gives it time to render down a lot of the fat. My go to seasoning is Montreal, but will sometimes go simple S&P and maybe some garlic salt. I normally season right after I start the grill which takes about 45 minutes to get up to temp and stabilize. If you prefer to keep your meet in the fridge until grilling time, you can do that too. I aim for a temp of 225-235 on the grill, and I grill in-direct. I use a leave in probe and pull the steaks when they hit 125 degrees which takes 35-45 minutes. I then prep the grill for direct heat, and jack up the temp to 500-700 degrees (takes about 10 minutes which is perfect to rest the steaks during this time). The steaks get thrown back on the grill to flash sear for about one minute per side which with the rest and the sear normally brings the temps up to about 130-135 depending on your steak thickness. Steaks are perfectly cooked edge to edge and deliciously juicy. When I grill salmon, my go to is to use cedar planks as it gives them an amazing flavor. I typically stick with sockeye salmon as to us it's so much better than the atlantic we can get here in MN. I portion them out prior to cooking, and use a bit of salmon rub and cook until flaky. Because of the planks, you don't get the crispy skin, but I don't miss it.

I don't grill anymore, but when I did I loved to make kabobs. Pieces chicken, pieces of green peppers and onion and grape tomatoes, threaded on a skewer. Marinate in Western salad dressing, and grilled. Usually I would make packets of sliced potatoes, carrots some onion, butter, salt & pepper wrapped in foil, cooked on the shelf of the BBQ. Yum. Hamburger, even better than steak. When I go to a BBQ, I am standing by for a nice fresh one to eat as hamburger steak instead of on buns.

Monica, do you make ribs yourself on the grill? Would you care to share how you make them? I've been making them like Connie told me, which is yummy, but dh wants to try it on the grill this weekend and I'm not sure what recipe to choose that I found on the internet.

All I do is put the ribs on the gas grill, on high...until they are browned on both sides...then, I set the flame low and close the lid. I go for a steady temperature of 275.

Takes a couple of hours, turning every once in a while.
Just before they seem done, I brush Sweet Baby Ray's Original BBQ sauce on them.

I love anything cooked on a grill.

But, I really love a rib-eye steak, one about 1 1/2 inches thick cooked medium rare.

Johnsonville Brats with cheddar cheese. I then make things worse by browning some red peppers and onions to put over them. I then pop a few tums and all is fine. Ialso love steak of any kind medium rare.

Gosh! The better question is 'What don't I like on the grill'? I cook everything.....beef, porkchops, tenderloins, turkey, ribs, chicken, fish, shrimp, scallops, vegetables, potatoes....etc. What's not to love?

Not my favorite thing to cook necessarily, but my favorite grilled food is armadillo eggs. Jalapeno peppers stuffed with cream chese and wrapped in bacon.

Steak would be my all time favorite, but both DH and DS smoke our ribs. It is an all day affair, but so worth it!

I used to absolutely love Rare Porterhouse or Filet Mignon or Prime Rib done on the grill. But since I don't eat beef anymore, I love positively everything else. Chicken, Fish, Seafood, vegetables, Pork, Ribs. It's all good.

i have a beer butt turkey on the grill smoking right now.. yummmmm!! I have to watch the grilling because i have a history of colon cancer but once or twice a year i will splurge..

On the grill it has to be steak, medium rare. We do use the rotisserie a lot. We have done Cornish Game hens, chickens, a Thanksgiving turkey, and pork, lamb, beef roasts. I like that it gets rid of a lot of fat cooking it that way. And I find it easier to clean a grill then an oven.
