Hi! New to this forum.......

been lurking for a while and thought I would post. I have been reading/posting on the Kitchens forum since our remodel 6 years ago. Lurking here lately.

I live in WA state, retired, I care for my youngest GS 2 days a week, married to the same man for 40 years this Oct, he is still working, 2 grown kids, both married, DD has 2 sons. We have one dog. Love to travel and am looking forward to doing more.

I am going on 58....just wondering what the average age might be on here....the thread on music for a road trip got me wondering. On my iPod which we use in the car I currently have Beatles, Jason Mraz, Kris Allen, Michael Buble, Celine Dion, Kenny Loggins, Barbara Streisand, Barry Gibb, David Cook, Gwen Stefani, John Mayer, Joni Mitchell, KT Tunstall, Maroon5, Bryan Adams, Herb Alpert and Coldplay. Those are the ones I can remember off the top of my head.

Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Beautiful piece of property. After seeing your photos, reading your wish list and site conditions, I think a consultation with a respected landscape designer from your area would be a great investment with valuable financial return. About 10 years ago I worked with a young couple who had a pie shaped lot that had drainage problems. They also had a whole list of items that they wanted to incorporate such as adding several patio areas, creating paths and de-emphasizing the pie shaped lot. We started with a drainage plan and then worked our way around to planning out the sitting areas, paths, and privacy screening. To mitagate the drainage we installed a collection and disapation system . In its finished state it looks like a dry stream bed. This is something that might be a consideration for your property, but a site inspection with a professional is really needed for most all drainage situations. To de-emphasize the point in the pie a semi circular patio was installed with copious layered planting. This affect may work well in your situation I'll attach a few progression photos so you can see how we sculpted and shaped the land to handle the drainage and pedestrian flow patterns. The pie shaped property - drainage on the left From Before and After Projects Mid way thru the project: From Before and After Projects After installation - one of the sitting area in center of pie shaped back yard From Before and After Projects Detail of the sitting area with water fountain. This could easily to translated into a fire bowl. From Before and After Projects The dry stream bed - collection and disapation system From DRAINAGE Good luck with your project.

I'd like to mail you some must-haves that are easy to grow. Email me soon. And a tip: we all usually add our state abbreviation to our zone box on our member info page so members can find each other by state. This way, lots of us find local garden buddies to trade plants in person and to give local growing tips and resources. A great resource for me going on 12 years or so now. Welcome! Robin in NC Here is a link that might be useful: trade list

Hey, I clicked on your profile to see if it says where you are, and I see zone 10B but it's not showing up next to your name when you post. The next time you post, if you type 10B in the zone box right above where you type, it should "stick" and then show up next to your name in subsequent posts. How much sun has your plant been getting? It needs more, but I don't know if this plant can burn if suddenly thrust into significantly more light, which I'm sure you have in abundance most days in 10B. Hopefully someone can advise you on the best way/time frame to get it back to some stronger light without doing more harm than good.

    Hi kacee,

Welcome! You're going to enjoy it here. I started here last fall (though I'm a longer-term member of other GW forums) & am hooked. People contribute so much & are very warm & caring.

I am 69 & just retired the end of April as a business researcher/research librarian. I'm just outside Los Angeles, have a DH, 2 dogs & a grouchy, whiny cat. I expect to start voluteering this fall - probably Meals on Wheels.

I think you will especially enjoy some of the daily postings such as I'll Show You Mine..., I'll Share My Recipes..., Site of the Day.

Hi Kacee! (Do we call you Kacee?)

I'm 66, and I have Joni Mitchell in my car CD player, but that's the only match. The other CDs in the player are by Eric Clapton, BB King and Clapton, Lizz Wright, and Harvie S (Latin jazz).

I live out in the country, where I do a lot of gardening and not enough cleaning.

    Hi Kacee!
    I love your name....
I'm 52, live in Utah and have been at this board nearly as long as it's been here but not quite.

I'm a country music fan but I like some of the new country music that has the rock bass and drums in it.

    Nice to meet you!

I am a stay at homemaker. Have been married since Dec. 1953. I live in central Indiana. Oh, and I am 74 years old.

    Glad to have you here.

Hi Kacee ... KC (Kansas City) welcomes you to the table ... we're glad you found us!

Dh and I will be marking our 25th anniversary later in the month. My son is the only 'kid' here, and he's just recently returned to the nest to get back on his feet.

Oh, but there are furkids ... nine of them to be exact. We have six rescue yorkies, each has been through a trauma of some type so there are a variety of emotional and physical issues to deal with. Then there are the three American Tundra Shephards, they range from 95 to 140 lbs. so quite the extremes here.

It's an interesting household ... furry tho.

    A big welcome from Missouri!

I am a soon-to-be 50 year old with a DH of 22 years and a 20 year old DD. We have 2 cats and a dog.

I like the same type of music that you do. I noticed you have a lot of American Idol contestants in your list. Are you a AI fan??

Welcome Kacee! I'll scoot over and make room for you!
I've been sitting at the table for less than a year, and it's a wonderful place to be! You'll get lots of laughs, advice when asked for, and great ideas on just about anything.

I've been living with my sweetie for 7 years. (I call him DH here just to make it quicker to type). I'm 52 and have had no desire to have kids. I do have 3 wonderful cats, each with their own unique personality. Do you have a pic of your dog? You will find that most of us at the table are owned by pets.

Hi Kacee -- I just began posting here a couple of weeks ago. I really enjoy the discussions.

I am 65 -- live in north central Wisconsin. I'm retired from a number of unusual professions (i.e.; private investigator) and unmarried. No kids, but a spoiled Shih Tsu/Pomeranian mix named Widget, who will be 1 year old this month.

I think you'll like the company here -- it is fun and you get to learn things, too.

    Hi Kacee,
I'm one of the few guys around the table.
I'm 53 and married to Bigbaby who posts here occasionally. We have 5 kids; ages 27 to 15, and one DGD that is 4.
We live in southeastern Minnesota, not far from Rochester.
I just got a new phone that I'm storing some music on. Been uploading Aerosmith, the Stones, Beatles, The Supremes, Three Dog Night, Dire Straits, Johnny Rivers....you get the picture.
    Welcome.

Hi Kacee! Welcome to the KT! Where in WA do you live? We have several Washingtonian posters here at the KT, I live in Seattle currently and grew up in Spokane.

    Nice to meet ya!

    Hi Kacee,
We (my husband and I) live on a small Central Texas farm that we bought two years ago. I'm retired (HA!) and he is working. We are in our early 60's, and if the farm doesn't kill us, we'll make it to our 70's.
I like classical music and opera. Cried for several days when Luciano Pavarotti died, and when there is an opera on PBS, I'll stay up late to watch it. My husband is more an R&B fan, and we both like folk music.
Our furbaby is Feliz, a calico cat that moved in on us on Christmas Day 1999--as a starving stray kitten. We love dogs, but are currently dogless. However, we do have seven hens that rule the roost (little pun there) and all have names and personalities.
If you would like to visit our farm on-line, go to www.rgf-tx.com and see Red Gate Farm. We aren't selling anything, and if you would like to receive our e-mail newsletter monthly with recipes, gardening tips and photos, we will happily send it to you and keep your e-mail address confidential.
Welcome to the forum, and we hope to hear from you frequently!

Welcome to the KT- you've joined a wonderful community of friendly individualists and it will take a little while to get to know everyone. But in the meantime I hope you join the discussions often. I'm 59 and live in NJ and my IPod has Eric Clapton, Queen, Simon & Garfunkel, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Brigadoon, the Beatles, Michael Buble to name a few.

Hi Kacee ... and welcome from near London, Ontario, Canada sent by this 80-year-old divorcee, another of the few guys here, who's enjoying good health, and has a large garden on what used to be uncle's farm, prior to his death, after which it was sold to a sod farmer who's a good guy. My/our garden reminds me that I have many forgotten muscles and joints. I'm a devotee of the Big Bands era music: Miller, Dorseys, James, even Lombardo; Tony Bennett, Peggy Lee, Theresa Brewer ... can take or leave Sinatra (partly based on disapproval of his lifestyle).

Two kids, who lost their Mom about 5 years ago, no grandkids.

Grew up near here, Dad moved to farm on the Canadian Prairies for breathing difficulties over 60 years ago, had 40 good years on the prairies, bro. recently retired from that farm.

I went through univ. and seminary on the Prairies, helped refugees get back on their feet after Korean War, have been clergyperson and financial advisor for a number of years.

No dog, four barn cats, one that I can't get near and another that has let me pet her for about 4 months, while she's eating ... but still won't at other times, though she follows me around and meows ... can't pick any of 'em up. Plus occasional kittens, a few of whom survive.

Hi from NJ -- I am a frequent lurker and occasional poster. As a member of the KT community I've learned much, laughed often, prayed some and cried some.

I am 45 (can say that for only a few more weeks!), and I also enjoy most music from the 40's to now, though my "default" music would be classic rock. I must admit I am not loving the rap and reggaeton which my two teens seem to be fond of.

I had the opportunity to visit your beautiful state when my brother was married there 20 years ago.

Hi Kacee, welcome from central Florida where it's really hot today (and almost any other summer day). I think we have a large variation in age here with our young members starting/raising families down to empty nesters or soon-to-be en's. One thing we all seem to have in common is enjoying one another's company. Hope you will, too.

I'm 65, retired with DH who is 78. We live outside Ocala--where there are many rolling hills and horse ranches.

We share our home with Shelties and cats of various ages. I've worked always and continue to do that. I garden, quilt and read, among a few other hobbies. Looks like our taste in music is pretty similar!

    Welcome!
