~Twitter? Do You?

My email is getting slammed with Twitter followers.

A few months ago I attended a internet-social connections workshop for library training. There I created a Twitter and a facebook account. (The instructor claimed facebook and twitter is a librarians new best friend....*?*....I haven't had time to test that theory though). At any rate, I forgot all about until today.

Can Twitter get hacked?

Is there such a thing as Twitter spam?

The names are Talisha Santini and Clora Latricia, etc. etc and just today I got a bunch of notices.

Can I turn Twitter off?

Do you know how?

I just went to the twitter site and they can't find me with this email address.

Hacked!
I've been Hacked!

I know a lot of people who love twitter and facebook.
I just haven't taken time to find out how to use it.

LOL, Don't freak out! I think you can just block people you don't know from following you.

I got on Twitter when it came out for the news aspect of it but REALLY stuck with it because of airlines customer service help on it. I fly mostly Southwest and you can get AWESOME service by using their twitter to get help in airports etc...I have friends who use it for that too and swear you can get better help and better upgrades on it. there are also lots of deals from companies just on twitter. Pinterest is a wonderful addiction when I have time. I found that as soon as they opened and for about a yr used it alot. Since summer thou I have not had much time, of course that was after I kept bugging friends to get on LOL. again you can get deals on things, find cool craft ideas, find decorative things to buy etc... It is the equivalent of tearing out magazine pic's and articles, a hobby i used to have LOL ;-)) ~ liz

I've also found a lot of interesting articles and opinions on Twitter, but I do not post Tweets myself, or haven't yet. But if I want to respond to a news article, it will be easier for me to do this way. I follow Pati Jinich, and she uses it a lot. I am also following Gayle King, but I don't know how much she tweets. In addition, I am following national parks, local governments, etc. For me, it is not a way of communicating with friends - it is a way of keeping up with institutions or large otherwise impersonal entities. In that respect, it is much more efficient than facebook.

Yes, Linelle. That's the general idea. In terms of @ and #... @ is used in front of Twitter (or Instagram) usernames in your posts when you want the person to be alerted that you posted a message with their specific name. # is used when you want your Twitter (or Instagram) post to come up in a search. So... if you follow someone who's Twitter name is veganrules, and you post a tweet about enjoying one of their recipes, you would tweet something like: What a great weeknight recipe from @veganrules! Thank you for the inspiration! This tweet would go to veganrules, who would have the option of retweeting or replying to it for its accolades. And your other followers could click on the "@veganrules" link in your tweet and see veganrules' Twitter home page (if it's public). If you take the same tweet above and use a hashtag, it might look like this: What a great weeknight recipe from @veganrules! Thank you for the inspiration! #veganrecipes #vegandiet #veganinspiration Then, your tweet would accomplish everything above with the "@" and also would show up if anyone does a general search for "veganrecipes" "vegandiet" or "veganinspiration" The @ will bring your followers to the direct source. There IS a twitter scam!

I tried to access this Twitter account but of course, did not remember my password. Sounds like it's a good thing I did not access my account..not that there is anything in it...

I have Twitter, but I rarely tweet, mostly just check on what others write.

Like jennmonkey said, It takes a couple of seconds to block people if you don't know them or want them on. I've gotten two spammers so far but I blocked them.

Nope, don't twitter or do any of the social networking....just a bunch of GW and Home Site forums, and 2 small private Yahoo groups...a plenty enough for me, particularly since I'm playing outside so much of the time at this time of the year.

You must have a lot of people who want to follow what you have to say! Maybe they are from the workshop that you attended.

I do use FaceBook a lot! :o)

We are using it to keep up with family. It only takes a minute to post. I posted a picture of middle DD's wedding for oldest DD within minutes. I love to hear that tweet sound when I check the site on my iphone. Pictues of my grandbaby! You can block others.
