Home Depot, and I am sure, Lowes does too... has some stuff to put on the floor, to keep rugs from traveling. They got both kinds, the one on bare (wood or tile) floor, and the kind to put on carpet.

Escapes me right now, what they are called. But, HD has them where their room size rugs are hanging.

They(I purchased mine on Walmart.com) sell double stick carpet pad. It's made especially for this. Works GREAT!!!!

Yes I got the stuff from Lowes, but you have to be sure to get the sheet that says to go over carpets not floors. It is like a sheet of kind of rubbery stuff. I have it under the big rug in my den. Not sure how well it works on small rugs.

I did public health nursing for a few years - PLEASE - be aware that the NUMBER ONE cause of broken bones in older people is THROW RUGS.

Consider doing away with throw rugs all together - they're just not worth laying in a hospital or ending up in a nursing home because of a broken hip! You can better afford to have your carpet cleaned if it gets dirty.

I'm always tripping over those things and now know why those are called throw rugs.

We use throw rugs in our bedroom. It has hardwood floors and the regular rugs do scoot around a bit. I find that rugs with a rubberized backing stay parked fairly well. You find these as bathroom rugs.

As a senior, throw rugs are NOT good. If you have carpet already, but really like the rug, use it as a wall hanging, or? but do not use it as a rug. Hospitals are not fun.

My maternal grandmother broke her hip because of a throw rug. She was home alone, and when the doorbell rang (for a delivery of some sort), she walked towards the front door, but a throw rug slipped on the hardwood floor and down she went. This was in the morning, and she had to stay there on the floor in severe pain all day until my grandfather came home from work.

Aside from that --- Most carpet companies will tell you not to use a rug on top of carpet because the rug will end up wearing down the fibers of the carpet below it. If the rug has been in the same place for a while, eventually when you remove it, you will always be able to tell where it had been.

I just bought a new one for my kitchen in front of the sink. Every time my son walks in there the rug is moved and messed up. I was so ticked today that I threw it out into the garage and told my DH to get rid of it--bugged the crap out of me. Now I need to find a good one with a rubber backing that won't move every time someone steps on it!
