Any one getting B12 shots?

Hubs and I started getting B12 shots, monthly. We started getting them when I had gone into the Dr in April feeling very bad and run down. It turned out my Diabetes and meds were grossly out of wack. That has been remedied, but he wanted me to come in and get the B12 shots. At first I didn't think they made me feel any different, but I really started to have energy and ambition. Now, after getting them for a few months, I notice my energy level is down about the week I'm due to go in for the shot, Which is this coming Wednesday. Do any of you get these shots? and how do they affect you?

I don't get the shots but I take supplements under my tongue. They taste like cherry. I just take one every few days and my levels are fine. I don't eat any animal products so it's necessary to supplement for me. I'm glad I don't have to deal with needles for it!

Mom used to get them all the time, but hasn't for years. I wish the drs. would try it again, but I have no say in it. Different drs over the years, and the on who put her on them to begin with had a heart attack and had to stop practicing years ago. I have just started taking the supplements, but not long enough to know how they are going to make me feel. Glad to hear you are doing so much better.

There's really no reason to delay installing a new wall since all of the issues involving chimneys from this era have to do with their internal condition. Starting at the bottom: Is there a cleanout door at the base of the chimney? Some were built without them, but they are necessary. Is the chimney lined? This is the most important question, especially if you intend to burn wood. Many chimneys from this era are just brick with no liner of any kind. You can check yourself with a mirror inserted in the clean out door or other opening, but a thorough inspection by a sweep or perhaps your local fire department is necessary to evaluate the condition of the liner if there is one. The fact that the opening for a wood stove has been sealed with cement is good. It's amazing how many no longer used connections are serious dangers because they weren't sealed properly, then hidden behind walls, etc. so their condition can't be seen. It's worth checking for similar openings on the second floor as well.

The pills I have are too small I think to try & split; I will try the flush-free niancin pills again though. Yes, I think a lot of it has to do to heridity also: I am out in the sun (no sunscreen/tan-no burn... ashamed to say!) some days 6 hrs. at a time & live at a mile high, hot summers/cold winters,arid area- zone 7. Still, after taking 5,000 IU of Dry Vitamin D-3 daily my levels are on the 'low' side but bone density still OK! Daughter-in-law is a therapist & believes in alternative medicine ... herbs, 'tapping' etc.& I am western medicine trained so find it hard to accept/understand some of it. The mfg.& testing of those things is not scrutinized as well here in the U.S.as prescriptiom drugs are I feel! Our doctor is from Pakistan & he will suggest some things like tumeric capsules, the B12, etc. but doesn't push it. Mediterranean diet? we don't care for seafood nor olive oil, wine... but the fruit, etc. OK! One study of a group of close knit people in a small mediterranean village had one of the highest blood lipid levels on record ... & also very long & healthy lengivities! Go figure?!

I was diagnosed with slightly low vitamin B12 several months ago, after having a weird burning-tongue feeling on and off for a few months. (Yeah, that's one of the weirder symptoms.) I don't remember what specifically my numbers were, but it was just barely under the borderline, so it wasn't a real significant deficiency. I think I've been taking 1000 mcg (too lazy to get up and look!). Within a few months my level was back in the normal range but I still take it most days. I wish I could say the supplement gave me lots of energy and a better memory, but I don't think it has! Maybe I'd notice more if perimenopause wasn't messing with my body so much.

Dee, my blood levels are good. Doctor cut my meds in half and said I may go med free soon. And I've been eating sugar during this time, but not a lot. I've been this way since my hysterectomy. Plus I hear menopause zaps women's energy, and it's a normal thing that effects a lot of women my age. It's the biggest complaint I hear from my friends as they age, lack of energy. This morning when I was taking Christmas decorations down I had TV on Kathie Lee and Hoda. Hoda started talking about how she takes her B vitamin and gets a lot of energy, and she gave KL one too, and KL said she got a boost of energy too. Hoda was practically swearing by B12! lol I wish Hoda said what strength and how ofetn she takes it! Since B's are water soluable and don't build up, I'm going to stick to two a day. Vitamins that aren't water soluble like "A" will literally kill you if you take too much. I need to get my nutrition book from college out and go over it again. I made an A in that class. Now I've forgotten everything! lol

I have been getting the shots for about 15 rs and never really thought they made a difference but my sisters are always asking where i get all my energy so i guess they do help...

My levels were low so I gave myself the shots once a week for several months and now have been injecting myself once a month. I wish they gave me increased energy. I have not noticed any difference in the way I feel and I have been taking them for several years.

wish i could take something but am limited to what kidney dr says...my mother gave herself her own shot for years..(LOT cheaper, too!)

We were given the choice of going in to the clinic monthly for the shot or get the prescription and 'shooting ourselves'.
I think this winter, we'll do the in home shots or look into the subliminal, under the tongue dose. Either way, I'm convinced they help me, Hubs said he hasn't noticed any difference. Another thing I learned when I Googled B12 shots, that if one is taking Metformin meds for Diabetes, it tends to deplete the body of it's B12.

I give my sister B12 shots once every three weeks. She had a gastric bypass years ago and has pernicious anemia.

My sister is a nurse and taught me to give her the shots. There's nothing to it.

B12 shots are only of value to people who actually are lacking the vitamin. B12 is relatively hard to overdose on since the body just excretes what it doesn't need.

Unless you are a vegan who doesn't eat enough B12 enriched foods or have some special medical issue that doesn't allow you to absorb B12 through regular food or supplements shots are unnecessary.

Although side effects are rare there are some pretty dangerous ones out there. So I would suggest anyone taking B12 shots or oral megadoses educate themselves on the downsides as well as the upsides instead of relying on "wonder blogs".

I am prone to anemia when I skip red meat for a few days so I watch my diet and listen to my body. I don't need supplements. A nice chunk of red meat takes care of any "deficiency" I might have.

Lots of healthy red meat I have energy. When I eat too many white meals in a row my body tells me.

After I had chemo, my energy level and Vit B12 levels were down. I had shots for a few months and really noticed a difference. I was impressed.

Back in the 60's my Grandmother used to get "liver" shots and Vit B shots. Ugh!

Any one getting B12 shots?
